DD and her friends secured their house yesterday. There are 5 of them, and a new house came on, and they dashed over to see it, and then straight on to the Letting Agents to confirm they wanted to take it. As they were filling out the forms another group came in wanting the same property, and both groups' details were sent to the Landlord who confirmed they'd let it to DD and her friends. Small matter of immediate deposit of £430 plus agent's fee of £180 (per person). She's given our names and details as guarantors, and says it will just be for her room, not for the whole house! Presume we'll get something through the post soon and will need to check it carefully. She's in Catered Halls this year, which she has really been enjoying, but this should be much cheaper even though it still seems quite expensive.

That sounds about right for what DS was doing in the summer last year, he left it until late and then just slotted in with whoever, and it has worked very well for their household. I wasn't surprised they asked him for a retainer, just that he had to do it so early. The whole thing has been interesting to watch.

We know the week of DDs but not the specific date. I'm hoping for an afternoon ceremony to avoid an early morning rush to get there with her stressing her make-ups not right, etc, etc. She's already got her outfit sorted and knows where she wants to go for a meal afterwards - DS was completely different 'do I have to wear a suit?' 'why do you want to go for a meal? 'gawd that was boring'!

We're in dissertation hell at the moment combined with lots of cousework deadlines which she thought would be after the date her dissertation's due in oh and she booked to go away at Easter before checking said dates - roll on June is all I can say Grin

mumeeee · 13/03/2017 07:00

Hi Doilooklike and Notso.
DD3 has settled back into uni and her Tutor is pleased with her work so far.
She doesn't have any dissertation worries as she past that last year.
She only has 2 assignments to do for this module Apparently one assignment is for an actual client and he'll give the best one a job
Her Graduation is on 12th 13th or 14th July but she hasn't got the exact date yet So I've booked Annual leave the that week.

Needmoresleep · 13/03/2017 08:02

We can't really believe it. DS is also preparing for finals and turns 21 next week. His dissertation is largely done, so the focus is on exams. He is working very hard, but it is now a case of one last push. He failed to get either internship he had applied to and is still waiting to hear about his Masters applications. A bit like Yr 13 all over again.

Good luck to other DC.

Squirrills · 13/03/2017 10:47

How the the years have flown for all our DC.
DS has his finals after Easter and graduation in July. I don't think he's keen on any fuss, he says he will go if it doesn't interfere with his travel plans but I have booked a hotel just in case

Notsoskinnyminny · 23/03/2017 17:30

Timetable released and she's got a morning ceremony. Trying to book rooms but DH (her SD) forgot to check his diary and let me know if he can have the day off - you watch as soon as the hotels know the prices will go up. We'll still have to be up at silly o'clock as registration starts at 8am and I remember the chaos of DS's afternoon ceremony so don't want to get there too late. You watch this one will be superorganised and she'll be gowned and photographed with 2 hours to spare Grin

zizza · 26/03/2017 23:07

Been catching up on here - funny to see names I remember from when were starting date this route with my youngest ds (he's the one graduating this year). He handed in his dissertation last weekend and I think feels relieved that's over with. Now home for Easter break before a run of exams after. And a small miracle.... He a for 2 jobs today, spurred on by a friend who's just got a job and wants him to move in with them. Waiting for exact date of graduation, but I've got a dress lol.

My dd had one more year to go until she qualifies as a vet. Had a lovely time at her BSc graduation last summer, so we're going for 3 graduations in a row :-)

I feel a light coming at the end of the financial tunnel....

mumeeee · 29/03/2017 12:22

Hi all. Well it is nearly Easter and once again nearing the end of Uni for DD3.
she was nervous about going back in January after a 6 month break but she has settled back in and is working hard everyone at the university have been very supportive,
She submitted one assignment last Friday and now just has one more to do. Of course being DD3 she is stressing over that but her tutor has said she is allowed to go into uni at any time to work on the computers that have the software she needs for this particular task.
She breaks up at the end of next week and will be coming home sometime during the week before Easter.
How are everyone else's DC getting on and when will they be home?
Notso has your DD handed in her Dissertation now?

Notsoskinnyminny · 31/03/2017 07:02

Two weeks until the deadline mumeeee so she's cancelled her shifts at work and won't be home until easter weekend when she's got work in Paris and then straight back to uni from the airport until finals are over.

She had an exam on Monday and everyone struggled with it so she's in a flap because its a large portion of their final mark.

Glad your DDs settled back in it must've been hard getting back into study mode.

mumeeee · 08/04/2017 10:37

A quick up date. DD3 told me last night that she got 58% for the assignment she submitted a couple of weeks ago. I'm really pleased. She seems to be doing alright with this last assignment. She's working hard and stressing a lot as that is what she tends to do. But she is getting good support from the university and is remembering to take breaks and do somethings with her friends.
She is coming home on Tuesday for a week.

mumeeee · 12/04/2017 22:11

Well DD3 is home. She has been home since 10.30pm last night. Has been doing uni work most of the day although she did have a break to take Dh and me out for coffee.

mumeeee · 26/04/2017 14:07

Well DD3 is nearly finished. Deadline for her last assignment is May 24th. Hopefully everything continues to go alright and she finishes her degree this year.
He Graduation is on Friday 14th July. DH has already booked our accommodation
How's your DD doing Nothing?

mumeeee · 26/04/2017 16:31

Kdasani everyone on this thread are parents of children at university so past doing A levels.
You would be better posting that on the Secondary topic.

mumeeee · 26/04/2017 22:33

Or Further education

Notsoskinnyminny · 27/04/2017 07:10

mumeeee - final exam today then a few bits of coursework to finish and submit. Graduation on 11th July so hotel booked for 10th as it's a morning ceremony and we'd have to be up so early. Can't believe it's nearly over its been a roller coaster ride and I'm definitely greyer and poorer Grin

mumeeee · 27/04/2017 15:49

It's been a. bit of a roller coaster ride here too. I'm sure your DD will do well Notso

mumeeee · 24/05/2017 21:32

Well DD 3 is very nearly finished. Students were given an extension for their final assignment as had some practical hitches beyond the control of the students,
She is now doing her VIVA demonstration of her assignment on Tuesday morning and that will be it.

zizza · 27/05/2017 18:38

Can't believe we're still here and waiting now for results. Ds gets his just one week before graduation which seems a bit on the late side! Dd passed her 4th year vet exams thank goodness and has driven off on a 4+ hour journey today to her first placement. I'm feeling old....

mumeeee · 28/05/2017 10:46

That does seem rather late to get his results Zizza. DD3 gets hers sometime in the week before 20th June almost a month before her graduation

Doilooklikeatourist · 31/05/2017 21:53

DS has finished all his exams ( last week actually ) had a few results, so all looking good
He's got a job for the summer , so staying in London , and then house hunting as he and his GF have graduate training jobs in September
They're off on holiday next week , and we still don't know the tine of the graduation ceremony , but we will be going anyway !
DD has one more performance, then home for the summer , then one more year to go ( or maybe 2 )
Hoping the finances will ease up a bit next year , with only one to support ... but we'll see 😀

mumeeee · 03/06/2017 09:03

DD3 has finished uni. DH and I ate helping her finish packing today then it's a long drive home. Will be back up in July for her Graduation

zizza · 03/06/2017 12:22

Hope the packing and driving goes smoothly today! Ds and the 2 girls (ladies, I should say I suppose - too old to be girls these days lol) are meeting up soon to deepclean the house in return for a reduction in their last rent payment Smile

Notsoskinnyminny · 05/06/2017 16:51

I brought most of DDs stuff back on Saturday and she's going back later in the week to hand her keys in after she's hoovered and cleaned the bathroom. She's not been there since the end of April and helped clean the kitchen before she came home but it was beyond disgusting so I'm hoping they don't expect her to do it again when they do her room inspection. There's 2 of them still living there and 1 came into the kitchen and plonked an emptyish pasta bowl on the worktop, I forgot I wasn't at home and went into full mum-attack mode and he just smirked and walked out muttering something about nagging women Angry

We're now trying to work out where everything can go, she's working all week so she's just closed the door to the spare bedroom!

mumeeee · 05/06/2017 16:56

DD3s stuff is all in the front room. I'm away this week with work. I hope she makes a start on it before I get home.

She was in halls again and this time we only had to help clean her stuff as she wasn't the last to move out
