Some Veggers Are Bigger Than Others - 10/10 porkers thread

CoupleofKooks · 21/06/2010 08:45

General healthy eating and exercise thread with aim of losing weight / shaping up. Aim to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, and do more exercise. No bizarre diets please. Weigh in day is Monday (you don't have to weigh in but we will punish you by with-holding stickers). Diet coke will be frowned upon.

Oh sorry , coupleofkooks, just read that no bizarre diets are allowed, not sure if I have broken the rules by discussing my proposed Dairy diet, oops..

CoupleofKooks · 08/08/2010 20:28

hi overrun - i think a few of us have changed names, but we still tend to refer to each other by the old names Confused

me and the boys are fine, thank you for asking on the other thread
ds1 is 7 now and ds2 is 2
how are your gang? did the DTs settle into school? what's it like working those hours?
i completely agree about going cold turkey on MN
every now and then i disappear for a while but i always creep back

i am very interested in the dairy diet (as i am such a pig about dairy) but it sounds a bit atkinsy? i am sceptical about a high animal fat diet helping to lose fat round the middle, but who knows?
i have all my weight round my middle, so i would try eating the opposite of what i eat and see if that works Wink

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 08/08/2010 20:32

nah don't be silly, i think i put that in when i was feeling grumpy
the dairy diet does sound a bit bizarre doesn't it! but as long as you eat f+v and plenty of calories i think it would be ok?

hello darling veggers, I've been trying to avoid electronica and be productive!
we had a week in cornwall where i mostly ate cream teas Blush

CoupleofKooks · 08/08/2010 20:58

OP posts:
elliemental · 08/08/2010 21:05

oh man, clotted cream......

anyhoo, I have been most domesticated today. Have made 4 jars blackcurrant jam, frozen 6 bags of green beans, marvested lettuce, peas, courgettes, spinach, tomatoes, green beans, squash and kale from allotty and done a rather fab family mosaic thingy where we collected loads of wee things (coins, broken jewellery, dices, platic crap, shells, stones, gems, marbles, badges, etc) and stuck them on a board using pollyfillery stuff. It looks so cool!

have eaten
apple
home made chutney
home made blackcurrant jam
atrichoke
lettuce
raisins
beans
carrots
brocolli
cauliflower
orange juice
cabbage
peas

Overrun · 08/08/2010 23:39

I don't think it is particularly high fat, as it is mainly lean meat, fish, with fruit and veg, plus some half fat yog and creme fraiche on various things. I'll let you know how I get on Smile
With regards to the names, I will have fun guessing who people are.

CoupleofKooks · 09/08/2010 07:58

oh i was imagining mounds of brie and stuff :o

morning! it is weigh in day. well my scales are hindering me a bit, but i think i have lost another lb
at last!

so
franny - lost 1 lb - total 13 lb

overrun if you want to weigh yourself today you can (some people do and some don't)
you don't have to tell us the amount, just what you lose

but avi, until you started this you were PUTTING ON WEIGHT
we have reversed the trend

avi what is happening with your job?

there is a new milkshake shop in town and they had a very clever promotion on today with a man handing out scratchcards to everyone
we 'won' a 'free' whipped cream topping so of course the boys want to go and cash it in
on investigation the milkshakes cost TWO POUND EIGHTY for one regular size one with no extras (there are LOADS of extras)
trying to explain to ds1 that i am not going to go and spend about 10 quid for us all to drink milk with after eights in

the shop was packed - with teenagers - of course! who else has 4 quid to spend on a drink?

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/08/2010 18:46

Was the shop called Shakeaway? One opened in town a few months ago and the queue is always out of the door. I love milkshakes but I have to say their combinations look sickly sweet and quite vile.

Have been able to eat today - which was nice.

1 slice of toast with lemon curd
grapes
cheese and ham sandwich
Toad in the hole with beans and peas
May have a banana later

I don't think I know Overrun do I?

Hello Ellie Smile how are you? How's the alloty?

I love clotted cream. Fruit scone, jam clotted cream, pot of tea, the works

CoupleofKooks · 09/08/2010 18:51

mmm lemon curd
have you had scones with cream and lemon curd? they are niiiiiice
i also noticed there was a lemon curd milkshake in the milkshake shop (which is indeed shakeaway)
have you had one lemur? are the fruity ones just fruit and milk or is there a load of crap in them?
dp and i looking at the leaflet, i saw there was nutella flavour
he said nutella always made him think of david threlfall licking nutella off jane horrocks' breasts
lucky for him i knew what he meant Hmm

OP posts:
ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/08/2010 19:16

No I haven't tried lemon curd with scones. God, don't give me ideas ........

I've got {http://www.nothingbutthebest.co.uk/productList.aspx?cat=0&brand=3&uid=118 this lemon curd]] at the moment. It was on the local produce shelf in Waitrose and oh lordy it it DIVINE.

I haven't tried Shakeaway. I'm put off by the queues and the boards advertising their special have horrid things like mars bar and snicker flavour with free cream etc etc. I adore milkshakes and I adore chocolate, but that just doesn't appeal. I didn't know they done fruity ones.

I can't believe Jane Horrocks has ever had Nutella licked off her breasts!! What film was it? Grin

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/08/2010 19:18

Oh, and I just put ds to bed (it's usually dh's job) and he fell asleep in my arms while I sung Somewhere Over the Rainbow

I would like to think it was my calming voice that soothed him to sleep rather than he fell asleep just so he didn't have to hear me anymore Grin

CoupleofKooks · 09/08/2010 19:27

awww lemur, that's very lovely

sorry it was david thewlis, another dimbo mistake today
i had to sing a song at work this morning that involved counting to 5
reader i failed

erm it was life is sweet
i love mike leigh but they are too harsh for me to watch these days [wimp]

lettuce
mushroom soup
tomatoes
peas
green pbeans
kale

elliemental · 10/08/2010 10:10

we have a simialr milk shake shop with a deceptively healthy and fruity name. Is just a cover for £3 Creme egg milk shakes too Hmm

my almost-teen thinks it is paradise because they do mint aero shakes and have a poster of jimi hendrix on the wall..Hmm Hmm

elliemental · 10/08/2010 10:11

hello Lovely lemur! Allotment is the best ever this year. Everything is growing and delicious!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 10/08/2010 12:48

carrot sticks with peanut butter?????? That sounds, eerrrrrrr, different!

We've been growing things this year Ellie, and I think it's safe to say it has been a learning curve and a bit of an experiment Grin

Our green beans, sugar snap peas and Charlotte potatoes have been great. The strawbs started off great but then started to taste vile and the plants went brown and died. I've also tried some of the carrots and they taste a bit soapy. Any ideas?

elliemental · 10/08/2010 12:52

erm, maybe try rinsing them with water instead of fairy liquid..? Wink

CoupleofKooks · 10/08/2010 18:47

LOL at that thread ellie

carrot sticks with peanut butter were really nice
i had a real fancy for celery with peanut butter on - which is gorgeous IMO - but when i got the celery out it looked like it had some bugs on it so i chucked it Blush

we just had dinner and i am still hungry
i seem to need large amounts of carbs with every meal to feel full, i don't know how anyone does low carbing
what can i eat in the evenings that isn't fruit or chocolate

OP posts:
whatagradeA · 10/08/2010 20:37

I'm baaaaack I put on about 4lb on hols Shock I did run 3 times however so it could've been worse Grin

I've been to the market today and stocked up on Fuh and Vuh and am sworn off bread and onto bulgur wheat instead. And lemon and hot water before any coffee.

How're you all?

CoupleofKooks · 10/08/2010 20:38

pink WHAT did you eat to put on 4 lb? [impressed]
did you have a nice time?

OP posts:
pointydog · 10/08/2010 20:54

I have been away and I am organising two family birthdays this week so I will not be weighing.

Dd1 is having a cake anc cocktail party this evening. We have made the most impressive array of cakes.
