General healthy eating and exercise thread with aim of losing weight / shaping up. Aim to eat 10 portions of fruit and veg a day, and do more exercise. No bizarre diets please. Weigh in day is Monday (you don't have to weigh in but we will punish you by with-holding stickers). Diet coke will be frowned upon.

cream on cereal

pink avi is right
we can't call you grey
that name just doesn't sound like anyone's name, it's just a random phrase
but i suppose i will get used to it [eeyore]

i have definitely piled on a bit of flob round my middle again
dodgy eating last week, will try to do better but i get really tired and then i get hungry

pink / grey you know you keep joking that although you have lost loads of weight you still think you look really fat
well is it just a joke
cos you have said it a few times now
if you are size 8 do you actually need to lose more weight?

gradeA, a size 8 bottom sounds pretty darn slim. Unless your top half is 18 or something.

Avi, what are you studying? Is it a phd?

Yesterday:

weetabix and fruit juice
2 jacobs and double gloucester and chutney
banana
banana
delia's frijimole, it's an upmarket houmus really. I liked it so much I ate almost the whole lot single-handedly
2 slices dry toast
home-made meringue, lots of atrwberries and blackberries and some whipped cream
6 tangfastics

about 7

god the boys are annoying me this morning
fucking lack of sleep is a bugger isn't it
perhaps, like me, avi, you sometimes take out the frustrations of day to day life on cat threads?

pink i can see why you might have a size 8 bottom and still want to lose weight
i have size 8 jeans on that are falling down because i basically have no bottom at all
but i still need to lose weight round my middle
but if you are more or less size 8 all over then i would think the likelihood of you needing to lose any more weight is quite small

oo interesting.

Guadalupe · 27/07/2010 10:34

Pink - you can't call yourself grey, that just sounds like a depressed or negative version of your normal self!

Reminds me of that Flyaway Katie book, that starts with 'what a grey grey day'. Then she flings some paint about. Do that.

I have put a couple of pounds back on. I think it is because I have become partial to lavender honey on toast. With butter. And I ate loads of pies at Latitude which was good.

Avi - I feel your back pain. Mine is still a nuisance, have to see ost every week and he says the disc is still bulging. Getting better slowly, though he says not to lift ds2. Very hard. I forget.

I didn't have time for breakhast before my appt and now I am starving. Melon or toast, melon or toast. Hmm.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/07/2010 12:36

Hi Guad, apart from the pies, how was Latitude?

I went shopping yesterday Fra and added up that I spent £24 on f&v, and that's just for snacks and a few veg for main meals. So I can see why you would spend so much on it. Although saying that I spend a lot more on fruit this time of year because of all of the lovely soft fruit which is £££.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/07/2010 12:40

I know what you mean about cooking with ds2 wondering about. They're a bloody liability in the kitchen aren't they? DS also seems to know that my mind is on cooking and not him so he goes off into the living room and gets into mischief.

Also we mostly eat really well (too well probably) with good quality produce and no scrimping. I sometimes forget that it's ok to have a boiled egg and toast and jp's with beans sometimes.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 27/07/2010 12:42

Me again!

Avi - I've got a feeling my friend has just done that course, or something very similar.

whatagradeA · 27/07/2010 16:00

at lavender honey and butter on toast!

Wow @ course Avi (way over my head though!)

You could call me gradeA? I'm not actually a size 8. I only tried on 2 pairs of trousers out of interest and I wouldn't have been able to breathe in them for many minutes! I think my problem with being size 10 is that I've never really been less than a 12 (except when I was about 16 years old) and I guess I always thought that it would be really slim. And it's not. Cause slim nowadays is size 4 like all the slebs in heat magazine! So essentially I have an unrealistic view of what I want to look like, but at least I'm aware of that. But yes I'm a fairly even size 10 all over with a post-2-children belly. But I wish I looked like Cheryl Cole. But I'm never gonna try that hard, so don't worry about eating disorders or over-exercising cause I'm not that strong-willed

Eye thang ewe.

DS likes to help me in the kitchen. Nearly broke my leg this morning slipping with my foot in his pan. But it's so cute when he's sat with a pan and wooden spoon, or the tongs round his neck I can't mind

I'm not good at the simple meals either Lemur! But actually egg or beans on toast or jp is a perfectly adequate meal. Also portion sizes in this house are shocking!

I got my F&V at the market today. Spent £10. But we're going away on Sat, so not a real week. But I probably spend about £15 per week on F&V - 10 at the market and a few bits in Tesco local organic greengrocer.

I need to stop sitting on MN til far too late at night. In fact, I'm going to stay off tonight! And tomorrow.

ponceydog · 27/07/2010 16:15

I think that when you lose a reasonable bit of weight, you start being far more critical of your body than you were before you lost anything. Do you k now what I mean?

CoupleofKooks · 27/07/2010 16:58

omg have just had possible revelation wrt shopping budget
i thought pink how can you spend so little on f+v
i went to see what we spent last week and it was £44.12
is that loads then?
we spend about £6 a week just on bananas
i do remember when we used to get a veg box delivered, one time the boss turned up with the delivery and said "i have come to find out what you are doing with all this fruit"
i thought he was joking but perhaps not

OP posts:
ponceydog · 27/07/2010 20:12

you do eat a fuck of a lot of f&v compared to most, fran

ponceydog · 27/07/2010 20:52

I've had an odd eating day. That's what happens when I make up my own structure.

weetabix and grapefruit juice
lots of toffee popcorn (o noes)
2 bananas
rice with chicken and bacon and onion (run out of veg)
lots of cantaloupe

A bit rubbish

yes but don't we all? and pink only spends £15
i wonder if it is the quantity, or the type of f+v, or the place i am buying it from
if it is the sheer quantity then it's tough luck, but maybe if i bought from greengrocers it would be better
mind you it would have to be quite a lot cheaper to justify the blinking hassle of dragging 2 children and about 20 kilos of f+ v across town

ok this will be of interest to no-one but me, but here's what i got for 44 quid

1 kg sweet potatoes
1 butternut squash
1 punnet apricots
1 kg frozen petit pois
1 punnet blueberries
6 clementines
4 mangoes (god embarrassing)
bag grapes
1 punnet peaches
1 punnet strawberries
6 posh apples
3 kg not posh apples
2 pineapples
3 kg organic bananas
asparagus
1 kg new potatoes
0.5 kg courgettes
3 peppers
2 corn on the cobs
750g organic carrots
3 onions
0.5 kg fresh peas
head broccoli
green cabbage
0.5 kg mushrooms
2 lettuce
bag rocket
cucumber
tomatoes

actually that seems quite a LOT for 44 quid
i can see i should not be buying 4 mangoes a week if we want to save money
ditto asparagus
but other than that is it so bad? i just have no idea, except that we are really lucky to have so much nice food

CoupleofKooks · 27/07/2010 21:06

oh sorry the first bit was in response to pointy's "you do eat a fuck of a lot of f&v compared to most, fran"

i have run 5 miles in 49 mins
i am pleased about this and fairly knackered

OP posts:
ponceydog · 27/07/2010 21:09

that competitive thread was all a bit odd, wasn't it.

I have no idea what colditz does. Obv no one beleives she promotes f&b's

CoupleofKooks · 27/07/2010 21:13

stop talking about other threads and analyse my mangoes, fgs

OP posts:
ponceydog · 27/07/2010 21:13

If you got rid of the blueberreis and the mangoes and the pineapple you'd m ake quite a saving there. I think that's all it would take if you need to spend less cause a lot of what you buy isn't that expensive it is just big in quantitiy.

ponceydog · 27/07/2010 21:14

ha! analysis done

ponceydog · 27/07/2010 21:15

maybe ditch the apricots too. They acan be hit and miss. Also, I am thinking that tinned apricots and pineapple are ok. But I think you will rise up in anger at that suggestion.
