i was in and out in one day for the second one, laporoscopy and that. couldn't stand being there a minute longer than i had to. plus, it was new year's eve ffs...

AitchTwoZone · 19/04/2010 19:40

actually yes that is true about nhs direct, she did phone, they should have seen the same signs we did. (although if you read back sc wasn't quite truthful about having sex etc...) but they should have an algorithm for that.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 19/04/2010 19:41

When I was having what turned out to be a miscarriage I phoned the hospital as I had pain in one side and in one shoulder. One hospital said take a paracetomol and see the GP on Monday, another hospital wanted to see me straight away.

Quattrocento · 19/04/2010 19:43

If they haven't, Aitch, you could develop it.

Would the question start 'okay do not fuck about here.'

Directness worked though.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 19/04/2010 19:45

spooky - have you already gone? Am wondering if St Michael's would be a better bet?

Hope you are OK...

sherby · 19/04/2010 19:46

at all of you being kept in for 6/7 days, they kicked me out the next day

Glad you have gone to A+E spooky, hope it works out ok

toccatanfudge · 19/04/2010 19:47

I'm presuming she's gone, she posted on her FB 3hrs ago to say she was off to A&E. Nothing from her since. (And she's also a pretty regular posted on there as well)

blushingm · 19/04/2010 19:47

hope everything is ok

AitchTwoZone · 19/04/2010 20:01

it's still completely possible that it's endo or an ovarian cyst, and in a way i hope it is, but i'm very relieved that she has gone to get it investigated.

ButterPie · 19/04/2010 20:02

SC, hope you're ok.

ilovesprouts · 19/04/2010 20:12

gosh just seen this thread sc hope your ok

morningpaper · 19/04/2010 20:15

Phew, hope she is okay, SO GLAD she has got attention

maduggar · 19/04/2010 20:30

Ive had a misdiagnosed ectopic, but in reverse they told me it was in my tube, and it wasnt.

AitchTwoZone · 19/04/2010 20:35

terribe for you maduggar, absolute misery. i think acting too quickly is as bad as not acting, tbh, but you must at least have the scans and go from there.

with my second ep, they got the hcg level wrong (and i told them it was impossible, but they didn't listen to me) and took my tube out as a result. terrible fallout from that for me as i'll never know if it was a twin preg.

and with the first... well, on balance i do think there was an ep but would never now agree to metho on a slow doubling hcg of 800 and some free fluid around the tube, because dd1 was the pregnancy that most behaved like an ep in that respect and if i hadn't fought for a wait (having had two eps, i did know more than the docs) she would have been killed with metho.

my sincere condolences to you, maduggar.

JustMooching · 19/04/2010 20:38

SC hope all is well and well done you fellow MNers for helping her to be taken seriously by the medical services. Too easily us women are fobbed off as having nothing wrong when quite clearly she is in pain for a reason!!

maduggar · 19/04/2010 20:42

Sorry, Aitch, meant to add that DS survived the laporoscopy and is fit & well. I was offered the metho (is that the injection?) but soem instinct told me to refuse. Id had scans done, they were sure there was a mass in my tube. I still have no idea what happened tbh.

Jacaqueen · 19/04/2010 20:42

Just catching up with this. Hope everything is OK.

So sorry madugger.

AitchTwoZone · 19/04/2010 20:49

oh gosh that is GREAT, maduggar! thank goodness you said no. and thank goodness i did too, when i look at dd1.

paitientpartner · 19/04/2010 21:01

Hope you are ok Spooky

Guadalupe · 19/04/2010 21:51

maduggar - I had the same thing, except on the laperoscopy they saw something growing on the tube and did the full abdominal surgery {laperotomy?} but then didn't think what they removed looked like a normal ectopic and I had to wait two days to see what my hormones did and Ds1 was in there in the right place all along! The tube pain was a twisted cyst or something. Amazing he survived it.

Spookycharlotte - am glad you're in the right place now. Hope everthing goes okay for you.

JodieO · 19/04/2010 22:06

Thought I'd update as she's posted on facebook from her mobile. She has to stay in hospital overnight but is still ok at the moment. Nothing else said though, only posting to stop people worrying.

Can understand the frustrations on here re: missed diagnoses. Are the problems usually in A&E? pre-hospital?
I am a hospital medic so wouldn't usually see ectopic pregnancies, but everywhere I've ever worked there is a pretty straight-forward protocol:
A woman of potentially child-bearing age with abdo pain would not be accepted by a non-obstetric team until they had a negative beta hCG test - ectopic is a "don't miss" problem - so it is done on arrival in A&E as routine.
Pregnant woman with abdo pain = person needing scan now. Ultrasound can be done 24/7 at all main hospitals if there is a good reason and is completely harmless.

Hope Charlotte you are OK, whatever the outcome of this.

Northernlurker · 19/04/2010 22:47

I went to A&E once with severe abdominal pain and they asked was I pregnant? I replied I was sure I wasn't but of course they quite rightly did a pregnancy test because that is the only way to know for sure. Just asking people 'are you pregnant' just isn't good enough because especially if people don't want to be pregnant we are all very, very good at finding lots of ways of saying 'no, no chance' You've got to do what Aitch did and really be frank about the details - though I'm not sure the GMC would go along with ' right don't fuck about' as part of a bedside manner!

Sppooky - hope you are home with the dcs soon and don't feel guilty about this. we all make mistakes, we all have hard things happen - you've done no better and no worse than any of the rest of us. All that matters is that you are there with your dcs.
