I've been lurking, can't believe this. Hospitals in Bristol are the BRI in the centre (left me trying to sort out my puking brother on a trolley when we were in our teens), Frenchay and Southmead, plus the children's hospital behind the BRI. Southmead A&E always used to be pretty good but I moved away 10 years ago so very out of date now.

MmeLindt · 20/04/2010 22:28

Isn't Riven in that area? She could go around and kick ass for us.

Pancakeflipper · 20/04/2010 22:29

What a mess. If they are ruling that out what are they looking at?

Could be renal colic??? That's like labour pains but worse. Or a kidney infection? They can be horribly painful and for something so simple to diagnose they often hash it up.

Hope they diagnose you very quickly so you can get on track for getting well. Hospitals are horrible and scary but try to hold on until they get to the root of this. Have they assigned you to a ward yet?

whifflegarden · 20/04/2010 22:30

MmeLindt, definitely must do mass email or more. I'm frankly so horrified by this, I'm speechless.
Charlotte, you're doing so well. Just keep thinking of your dc's whenever you feel your resolve crumbling. We're all with you in spirit.

whifflegarden · 20/04/2010 22:32

Is there anything we could do now?

Valpollicella · 20/04/2010 22:33

What hospital is she in? Can we mass email? Phone?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 20/04/2010 22:35

I left off St. Michael's from the list which I think mainly is Maternity, up the hill from the BRI.

AitchTwoZone · 20/04/2010 22:35

they really can't rule it out on the basis of hcgs, they just CANNOT. even they said earlier that they just couldn't rule it in with a scan and were waiting until the figure moved higher.

i spoke to the scanning rooms at southmead yesterday, the woman said that a and e could get her a scan in obs and gynae. and i said 'even at this time?' (it was half four) and she said yes.

so the problem may be that the scanners have gone home, but they should be able to find someone to do one.

but they CANNOT rule out an ectopic from hcg alone, that's simply the thickest thing i ever heard.

nigglewiggle · 20/04/2010 22:37

I had a similar experience when DD2 was days old. I had all the symptoms of a DVT but they wouldn't call out a doc to scan me. I was told to come in each night for an injection until my scan scheduled for monday morning - 3 days later (great with a newborn!) We rang a different hospital who (unofficially) declared that this was disgraceful. I was scanned straight away and of course I did have a DVT and spent the next week in hospital.

You need to shout and complain. Don't assume that they know what they are doing, your symptoms sound too alarming to ignore. I hope you get your scan soon!

Dumbledoresgirl · 20/04/2010 22:37

Reasonably local person here. I think she would be at Frenchay. Southmead no longer has an A&E, only a minor injuries unit. If she had gone there, she would have been told to go to Frenchay. I don't think she would be at the BRI as I thought she mentioned something earlier on about being near Frenchay?

I hope you get seen soon SC and all is ok.

Valpollicella · 20/04/2010 22:38

Absolutely Lulu. There must be someone who can scan, even if the regular 'day' scanner have gone home.

This is such bad publicity for whatever hospital SC is in - bet they would be scanning her ASAP if they knew we were talking about this...

MmeLindt · 20/04/2010 22:38

I don't think that a mass email at this time of the night, when we don't know the outcome will do much good. It will go to an office somewhere and scare the living daylights out of a receptionist tomorrow morning.

Hang fire. Let's see how she gets on. She has her Mum and her sister there, they will fight for her.

toccatanfudge · 20/04/2010 22:38

just had another text.

Dr has been and she's had some paracetomal. She burst into tears and Dr gave her a hug (have to say she sounded really upset when I spoke to her) She (SC) told her Dr she felt like a nuisance and Dr is getting another dr for a second opinion to try and figure out what's wrong. She (dr) is saying she doesn't think it's EP.

FlyingFig · 20/04/2010 22:39

I'm a relative newbie here but have read this thread and really hope SC gets the medical help she so obviously needs.

Valpollicella · 20/04/2010 22:39

You're right Mme, I'm just so for her! Not being rational

ScaredOne · 20/04/2010 22:40

This is just ridiculous!

Honestly though, I had no idea this could be this serious after the first few posts.
I think educating the general population would be a great thing to do honestly!

Valpollicella · 20/04/2010 22:40

OMG

Just SCAN her ffs

Sorry

BosomsByTheSea · 20/04/2010 22:40

Aitch, I think you are probably right - often they can't do scans after 5pm because the EPU staff have gone home (actually I think that having scanners and staff who could use them available 24 hours was one of the requests on the miscarriage charter MN have been promoting).

My last pg, I went in with heavy bleeding at 8 weeks and there were no scans available because it was 'after hours. I had to wait 2 days for a scan. (All turned out ok this time, though).

ScaredOne · 20/04/2010 22:42

I don;t get it though, shouldn't there always be a doctor who can do the scans? Jesus Christ, this is just disgraceful.

Valpollicella · 20/04/2010 22:43

Bosoms, that's terrible Glad all was ok.

Can't believe there isn't a single person in the hospital that can't scan though? How utterly ridiculous??

AitchTwoZone · 20/04/2010 22:43

so a mass email saying 'There is a woman called Charlotte who has... (list of symptoms) and then maybe the guidance i posted earlier? i've looked for a more local one, and i've looked for the green top RCOG stuff, but unfortunately the green top guideline doesn't deal with the diagnosis, only post-diagnosis.

BosomsByTheSea · 20/04/2010 22:44

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Wasn't the case at my hospital, though.

MmeLindt · 20/04/2010 22:44

There must be a doc somewhere in the hospital who can do a scan surely?

Jesus, I have had so many, I think I could just about manage to work the machines now.

toccatanfudge · 20/04/2010 22:44

have asked her what reasons the Dr gave for not thinking it's not EP

poshwellies · 20/04/2010 22:44

Surely they can get her down to theatre for a laparoscopy, just to check all is well there.

That's what they did with me and then found the ecoptic ,which was hidden on the internal scan.

Hang in there SC
