Is anyone else on this diet and does it work?

the hi-fi bars in class are really high in fibre which is why they count as a healthy extra (or 6 sins). they have around 3.2 (i think from memory) g of fibre per bar. i think kellogs Fruit & Fibre only has 1 point something per bar so you can't substitute as a healthy extra.. Not sure about the others you mentioned lillibet but i'd love to find something high enough in fibre to substitute the hi-fi bars as i can't get them as i'm not attending a class.

Boe, which end of Bishopsgate are you ? I work a couple of minutes walk from liverpool street station. Hope you managed a poo and the weigh in went well. Possibly just a smidgeon more info than we needed

Crunchie · 23/07/2003 20:10

Just an idea what about all of us posting our fav recipe. Doesn't have to be complicated, actually we could make it a rile that it has to be so simple my 4 yr old could do it (like the SW quiche). Again more ideas for everyone??

I like savoury rice, made up and left to cool (do the day before if you are organised!!) mix in a beaten egg and small veggies like sweetcorn or peas and shape into little flat patties, fry in fry light. Yummy. Actually this is great with any left over rice or riso glallo risotto (not that there is ever any left!)

I have never done this one but great for picnics. Hard boil eggs and de-shell. Get sin-free sausages (one per egg) and de-skin, squish around egg. Dip into beaten egg and roll in breadcrumbs (57gs will do loads of scotch eggs!)
Spray with fry light and bake for about 30 mins (ish) Almost sin free scotch eggs!!

jasper · 23/07/2003 20:58

Good idea about recipes Crunchie .
I read in a SW mag about spiced onions. Anyone got the recipe?

kid · 23/07/2003 23:34

I haven't signed on for a few days, dh is moaning about the amount of time I spend online!
I have been sticking to the diet and have even been doing some walking. Dh works in Moorgate so we walked home from there. It took us 1 hour but I did have to push ds in buggy with dd on buggy board. My legs actually felt numb where I am not used to walking!
I normally weigh myself everyday. On Monday I was happy to discover that I had lost 2lb over the weekend. Yes I had a wee first, put the scales in the same place and looked straight ahead! I didn't breathe out though will try that next time. To try and stop myself from weighing everyday, I drink some tea as soon as I get up then I am convinced this will make me weigh more so I don't bother to weigh myself.
Boe- you were a bit too honest in your post!!
Bet others do the same before their weigh in though!
I don't really count my sins, I just try and eat free food. Tonight I had bernard matthews turkey breast roast with lots of fresh veg, it was yummy!

winnie1 · 24/07/2003 08:11

Weighed myself this morning and phew... I am the same weight as last week. Must try harder!

Dh is getting sick of my favourite almost sin free meal: in a squirt of fry lite 'fry' onion, mushrooms, peppers and courgettes add quorn mince, tin of tomatoes and extra water/stock. Cook for a while and reduce down, add tomato puree (which is where the sin comes in)and stir. Add either herbs or choose or nutmeg, & season.
Serve with large helping of spaghetti and a quantity of parmasan cheese (add sin value). Quick & filling... & the children love it too!

don't have to work late tonight so if I can stay awake (3.5 hrs sleep last night!) I must try to fit some yoga in today. In fact I'd really like a swim... that would be lovely.

Well done everyone, keep at it.

Crunchie · 24/07/2003 09:23

I did a yummy veggie lasagne last night. Cooked up onion, garlic, leek, courgette, pepper, sweetcorn with pasatta, can of tomatoes and herbs. layered with lasagne and can of macoroni cheese (1/2 inside and 1/2 on top). Baked for about 1/2 hour. STill got a huse bowl of pasta sauce in the fridge. Winnie1, it would be a way to ring the changes with your sin-free spag bol too.

Boe · 24/07/2003 09:57

2lb = my first week - just another 9lb to go - am soooooo chuffed.

They spoke about lasagne last night and Bisto cheese sauce is relatively good - as you don't have to have that much and apparently do with Quorn mince and is even better.

Have never tried Quorn but am gonna give it a go.

Girly · 24/07/2003 10:16

Well done Boe thats great!

I used to do the journey from Cannon Street to New Eltham when i lived in Sidcup, small world!

OP posts:
Boe · 24/07/2003 10:34

Is isn't it - I keep looking out for a heavily pregnant Marina getting off the bus just along from my house - no luck so far but sure will see her one day.

Where do you live now - have you moved somewhere posh???

DP keeps saying we should move to Sevenoaks (but as a soon to be divorcee I would ruin the national record of being place with fewest divorces in England of may be UK!!) but I cannot believe the differene in time spent commuting and cost of commuting - is huge!!

kayleigh · 24/07/2003 10:42

Boe & kid those are really good losses, well done. Winnie1, staying the same is a whole lot better than putting on so keep at it, it'll come off next week.

Yesterday I had a red day and ate:-
Breakfast - the usual fruit salad and yoghurt
Snack - apple, 2 babybel (A), 2 stasumas
Lunch - chicken salad + salad dressing (2 sins), yog
Snack - nectarine, banana, apple
Supper - chicken in a tom sauce with jacket pot (B) yog
Snacks in front of telly - cherries
Total sins for day 2

Didn't realise the new magazine was out so will pop out at lunchtime to get it. Thanks for that.

Girly · 24/07/2003 11:01

My dh hails from Sidcup, but I am a west London girly myself, finally convinced him to move west, we now live nr Uxbridge, in Middx. West London was way to expensive, so this is the next best thing.

OP posts:
Boe · 24/07/2003 11:31

Sure you DH is lovely if he hails from Sidcup - my DP hails from Bromley and he is scrummy!!

Go to Slimming World in New Eltham library - they are all a lot older than me but are a great bunch and are all so kind.

lilibet · 24/07/2003 12:35

Really well done Boe and Kid! Its my weigh in tomorrow.
Boe, quorn is great, you can do allsorts with it. Off to get my magazine, can't beleive how much I have been waiting for it, very sad! I even considered getting some old ones off Ebay where they are going for 50p plus p and p. Will try and post some recipes tonight. I am going to a 'bring and share' at our viacarage on Saturday night, I'm taking a big rice salad, any suggestions for what else I can do, the usual fare is sausage rolls and cheese butties. I cant keep my rice salad to myself all night!!

kayleigh · 24/07/2003 13:21

lillibet, how about a load of sin free tortilla for the "bring & share". I am now having to make double the amount as dh keeps pinching them.

I'm very impressed at the amount of cooking you all do. I seem to rely quite heavily on ready meals in the evenings, especially on the 3 days I'm working. I'm only feeding myself and dh in the evenings as the kids eat earlier (and at the childminders on my 3 work days). We eat late as Dh doesn't get in from work till 8 and I find I have neither the time nor the inclination to do anything more than sling a couple of ready meals and a couple of jacket potatoes into the oven. Oh, and if I have remembered to buy any i'll sling a bag of veg in the microwave !

kayleigh · 24/07/2003 13:32

lillibet, if you're interested I have magazines going back about 2 years. If you don't have them I would be happy to send them to you to read and copy recipes out etc if you don't mind sending them back when you're done. I like to keep them to re-read recipes and meal plans when I get stuck in a rut. I also find the stories keep me motivated. If you're interested get my email address from tech and we can sort it out.

kid · 25/07/2003 08:05

been on diet for 1 week now, weighed myself this morning and only lost 2lb. I know it is better than putting weight on but I would have liked to lost a bit more. Some of my clothes feel more comfortable so it must be working.
I'm not totally committed to doing this diet at the moment as I go on holiday on thursday and I know I will not stick to it while I am away.
I don't care how much weight I put on while I am on holiday, you watch when I get back I will be so strict with myself until I reach my goal weight. In total I want to loose 18lb.
Well done everyone, can anyone tell me how to make or where to buy those tortilla's

winnie1 · 25/07/2003 08:18

Kid well done 2lb is good. Don't be so hard on yourself... 2lb a week is only 9 weeks to the new you and the sensible way to loose weighta nd keep it off. Have a good holiday.

Lilibet, why not take some dips and crudites?

lilibet · 25/07/2003 09:37

Well, I got up this morning, had a wee, breathed out, tummy in, got on the scales and I had put 1lb on . So went back to bed for half an hour, got back up had another wee, breathed out stomach in, got back on the scales, still he same , moved teh scales to every location I could think of but no different . I was expecting it as I do bloat up a lot once a month, but was so close to loosing my first half stone, another 2lb this week would have done it but now I'm 3lb away.
Anyhow, really well done Kid, have a fantastic hol, going somewhere nice?
So yesterdays food:-
Breakfast - as per.
Lunch - couscous salad
Tea - Pasta with a sauce made from tinned toms, onions, pepper and cougettes.
And I did have half a bottle of wine cos I'm having none tonight!

Kayleigh, thats really kind of you, I'll be in touch.

kayleigh · 25/07/2003 10:28

kid, the recipe for tortilla chips is on this website www.granga.force9.co.uk/ that lillibet originally posted. 2lbs is a good loss, go and pick up a 2lb bag of sugar and feel how heavy it is.

Crunchie, i made your roast baby new pots last night and they were excellant. Dh complimented me on my cooking !!!

Yesterday I had a red day and ate:-
Breakfast - fruit & yog
Snack - apple,2 satsumas
Lunch - ham & cheese (A) salad + salad dressing (2 sins), yog
Snack - nectarine, banana, apple
Supper - salmon baked in oven with piri piri veg and prawn sauce (0.5 sins)+ roast baby new pots (B), yog
Snacks in front of telly - cherries, mini aero (3 sins)
milk in tea (1.5 sins)
Total sins for day 7

kayleigh · 25/07/2003 16:25

Bol*ks. I knew I wouldn't be able to resist. We have cakes in the office on the last friday of the month and I just couldn't keep my hands off them. Had a plan to eat cherries instead but they're still sitting in the fridge.
Have had half a chocolate muffin (it was enourmous - half is probably equal to one ordinary one) and a piece of flapjack. Reckon at the very least 20 sins. Have had to stick a piece of chewing gum in my mouth to stop me eating any more. Really peed off with myself. And it's my weigh in tomorrow.

Girly · 25/07/2003 17:21

ooooohhh Kayleigh, cake is the one thing i REALLY miss

OP posts:
lilibet · 25/07/2003 17:26

Kayleigh, come round and I'll buy us a big crusty loaf and a great big lump of brie, we'll drink loads of wine and then I make a gorgeous lemon bruleed tart. I've had a crap afternoon at home with 2 ds's, I'm trying to sort out the move for next week and dd has just decided to batter ds1. 2 out of three children are crying and screaming and I want nice food and I want it now. I want something with Golden Syrup in it adn custard on top of it. When I was 2 stone lighter than I am now and I started putting weight on why didn't I listen to my mum? I want to have my cake and eat it and have thin thighs!!

ho hum, rice cakes for tea with salad!!

Girly · 25/07/2003 17:29

Can I come too Lilibet, sounds scrummy!

OP posts:
lilibet · 25/07/2003 18:22

yep! All the mumsnet Sw club at mine tonight for a well deserved blow out.
All quiet with the children now at least, amazing what a few rolls of heavy duty masking tape can do
