this makes a great snack - sort of feels like a cream cake if you shut your eyes and have a reasonably vivid imagination

1 large caramel or chocolate snack-a-jack (2.5 sins)
spread with 1 tbs reduced sugar jam (1 sin -or 2 tsp = 0.5 sin)
put on a big dollop of very low fat fromage frais
top with chopped strawberries or raspberries

Crunchie · 08/07/2003 16:34

Kayleigh those tortilla chips are great. When I am in the mood and have time I make up a huge batch of them and keep them in a airtight box. They are very filling with a sinfree dip too. My other nibble is 'chick pea mock peanuts'. Open a can of chick peas and drain. Spread out on a baking sheet, sprinkle over spices (I've used paprika, cajan spices, morrocan spices, garam masala - not all at the same time!) Cook in a oven at 200 or mark 6 for about 1/2 hour, until dry and hard, a bit like peanuts!! I find a bowl of these at 9pm when I have got the real munchies, that fruit or veg won't fill, is a winner.

Have you all tried weetabix trifle??

lilibet · 08/07/2003 17:33

why are there sins in cheese but no sins in macaroni cheese?

kayleigh · 08/07/2003 19:13

good question lillibet. I also wonder about some of the convenience meals that are sin free. How can they be when they have so many ingredients that have sins, such as gravy etc ?

winnie1 · 08/07/2003 20:27

lilebet, thats my worse time too!
Sin free yogurts and vegetable sticks are my answer!
Weigh in tomorrow morning - will report back....

Furball · 08/07/2003 21:41

The lasagne was scrummy every last morsel vanished. I also included a side plate of a trial run of tortillas. I sprinkled them with Schwartz' 'chargrilled chicken' and wished I'd made more, really delicious.

Crunchie - Tell us more about weetabix trifle

lilibet · 08/07/2003 21:53

Just amde some of the 'chick peanuts'! Chilli powder and lots of salt. very nice, all I need is half a lager to go with them. Weetabix trifle coes sound intruiging.

winnie1 · 09/07/2003 08:02

1 lb weight loss! Not thrilled but it is a start!

Intend to up my exercise this week. Aiming to get myself fit enough to start running. Something I did as a teen. Any advice? (I am far too fat to even comtemplate running yet.)

The weetabix trifle sounds disgusting but the chickpea 'peanuts' sounds like a great idea. Will try them. Thanks crunchie.

Crunchie · 09/07/2003 10:41

Ok Weetabix trifle, sounds foul, but tastes great!! 2 Weetabix (B), fruit - such as frozen fruits of the forest or grapes and apple, Put into a deep dish. Make up sugar free jelly (2 sins) and put over weetabix/fruit. Leave in fridge to set. Top with a couple of Muller lite vanilla yoghurts and eat the lot!

Actually if you can eat the whole thing in one go you'll be better than me.

Another green favourite is rice cake. Make up a pack of flavoured rice (bathchelors savoury rice or whatever), leave to cool. mix in a beaten egg and shape into patties. Fry in fry light. Or get big frying pan, spray with fry light, heat, bung the whole rice/egg mix and pat down into one massive cake. Cook gently until brown and grill to brown top if you can't turn it over. SIN FREE!!

Macoroni cheese layer is yummy. Make up some smash (onion or butter flavour is great) put into the base of an oven proff dish. Gently fry some leeks and mushrooms and garlic (if wanted) and put ontop of smash. The next layer is can of macoroni cheese, lastly top with sliced new potatos (par boiled). Bung in oven for about 1/2 hour. Sounds complicated, but is really simple and yummy.

lilibet · 09/07/2003 12:13

Winnie, I know it may be a bit simplistic, but try walking, if you go fast and plan a route that has a few hills, you will soon get out of breath (well, I do!), I can't run for toffee, (at the moment I might try tho ) never seem to have the stamina. Has anyone else bought this months magazine, there is a recipie in it for a green risotto using a four cheese risotto mix that sounds really good.

Girly · 10/07/2003 20:32

Hi everyone, am back minus a gall bladder and plus 4 holes in my stomach! Can't chat for long as a bit knackered and sore but thought I would congratulate all those who have lost weight this week. Well done

Having had 2 days of hospital food and 1 day with nothing passing my lips I should hope I have lost some too! Will weigh myself tomorrow and let you know.

Must get dh to cook up some of the recipies you lot have conjured up, altho may get food poisoning! he is a useless cook but as I am laid up he does the cooking

Girly, hope you make a swift recovery and enjoy your holiday .
How much does a gallbladder weigh?
Think slim!

lilibet · 10/07/2003 21:24

Glad to have you back Girly, hope you're sonn fir enough to be jumping onthe scales. Weigh in for me tomorrow morning! Gulp!

winnie1 · 11/07/2003 08:38

Look after yourself Girly,

Boe · 11/07/2003 08:58

Have decided this morning to put go to slimming world and join this 100 a day club thing (if that is ok?) - although not sure if I can do 100 in one go - can I start with 50 or something like that.

lilibet · 11/07/2003 12:17

Hi Boe, lucky you if you can do 50, I can't do one. anyhow this morning was my big weigh in and I had lost 3lb, which is a good start to my aim of a stone in 7 weeks.

Boe · 11/07/2003 12:21

God thats really good - 3lb a week and I would be super chuffed - do you think it is hard - done it after having daughter but I did not work then and that made it easy - lived on meat and veg and water - weight fell off but DP is a big foodie - he loves salami and stuff like that and I am not sure that would be free - what about olive oil (hi) we douse everything in it in my house - would that have to stop??

kayleigh · 11/07/2003 12:25

Hey lillibet that's brilliant. Well done.
Girly, welcome back. Make the most of your convalesence (sp?) and make sure dh caters to your every whim

I had a terrible day yesterday. Went on a company picnic. Started off with good intentions but went completely to pot after being introduced to M&S all butter mini flapjack bites. They are teeny tiny and I thought one won't matter. One probably wouldn't have-but I defy anyone to stop there. i must have worked my way through half the pot. But they were scrummy ! i will probably be very sorry tomorrow when i weigh myself.

lilibet · 11/07/2003 12:31

I suppose it depends what your priority is, mine is alcohol. I eat free foods all the time, I only hve green days as I'm veggie and then on Friday, Saturday and Sunday I drink at night, so probably am going slightly over my 70 sins. But if you wanted to spend your sins on Olive oil you could do, what about a stronger flavoured oil and use less of it. I'm not getting too cocky or confident, its only one week and i still have 6 to go, if I can keep at 2lb per week I will be happy. I do seem to have eaten loads of food tho', and filling stuff too like pasta. I really recommend the quiche, I made one and it was huge, its lasted me a week with salad for lunch.

winnie1 · 11/07/2003 12:49

lilebet, well done you!

kid · 11/07/2003 22:46

I went on this diet a ouple of years ago andmanaged to loose 18lbs. I was still planning to lose another 7lb but I found out I was expecting my 2nd baby. DS was born 15 months ago and I still want to loose 14lb but keep starting SW and stopping! I find it hard to have a meal on a red day, any tasty recipes anyone? I know this diet works but have completely forgotton what I ate on it before and I'd prefer to do it at home and not attend meetings

kayleigh · 12/07/2003 11:15

It's my saturday morning weigh in and i have lost a pound. I'm pleased with that considering i had such a bad day thursday. This thread is really keeping me on the straight and narrow so thank you ladies. If it wasn't for you I would have given up after falling off the wagon on thursday.

I'm having a green day today and am looking forward to a waitrose vegetable chow mein (no sins) with rice tonight in lieu of a takeaway.

kid, try starting the s/w plan again with us. it really helps to have people to talk to. And unlike a class there is always someone around.
I actually prefer red days to green. I usually do 5 red and 2 green each week. For dinner usually have loads of meat, potatoe from my healthy extras (either a jacket or boiled new) and loads of veg. I make up a small amount of gravy and count as sins. If it's just me and dh for supper i'll get a small piece of roast beef from the butcher. it only costs about £4.00 and there is plenty for two of us.
Or have a chicken/beef stir fry with loads of veg.
Or spaghetti bolognaise with heaps of bolognaise and spaghetti from healthy extras.
Or savoury mince over a (healthy extra) jacket potato with salad

lilibet · 12/07/2003 20:00

Well done kayleigh, if you loose a pound a week its nearly four stone in a year, if my maths is right! Join us kid, the more the merrier and seeing as we will all be so slim soon there's always room for another I'm having the four cheese and vegetable risotto now, from this months magazine. Looks good!

winnie1 · 13/07/2003 07:46

well done kayleigh. I agree it really helps to have support as after a 'slip' it encourages one to pick oneself up and continue with the plan instead of giving up in frustration and I wonder if that is one of the major obstacles to loosing weight and keeping it off!

Kid, welcome and good luck.

I am feeling really positive about this and am enjoying planning the weekly menu. Today we are having a green day picinic and I have made spicy beany rice salad, potato salad, frittata, served with cherry tomatoes (and 0.25 oz cubes of cheese for the rest of the family that I can eat and count as healthy options). We are having fruit kebabs too with frozen yogurts. Mmmm

StripyMouse · 13/07/2003 08:07

nice one kayleigh - hope it inspires you to keep going with it, sounds like you are on top form.
I have had a mixed week - thanks to too much socialising with my family - BBQs are easy peasy to fit in around but I find going for afternoon tea with all those lovely cakes, flapjacks, strawberries etc. are all just too tempting. I try to sit there with my diet coke but somehow it never works out like that as I my family just don?t believe you can "diet" during pregnancy and insist on either sharing their gooey cake or buying me one regardless. I have tried explaining it is called "healthy eating" not "dieting" but don?t have the willpower to resist as much as I should! Oh well, I guess I am getting good use out of the old flexible sinning....
