I want the plum I can't have, and it's driving me mad - 10/10 thread with new added BOOTCAMP

Well some of us have strayed from the path of righteousness. Some of us have been off MN for a while. Some of us have got a bit porky apparently So this is a 10/10 thread with added extras.... the usual 10/10 thread remains (I think it's still going?) for people who want to eat more fruit and veg but don't need / want to lose weight.

The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. This is a kind of splinter 10/10 thread, the focus IS on weight loss / inch loss, as well as improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being, but the idea is to do this by eating healthily and getting more exercise, rather than anything drastic, cutting out food groups, etc. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

i want a commune where i don't have to see everyone every day

guad your list was impressively non-wheaty

ds1 can read
he just said "what does that word say?"
"i only ask because it looks like it says 'fuck'"

[gloom] there goes my MNing at the breakfast table

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 19/03/2010 07:33

'I only ask because it looks like fuck'

ha ha ha, sorry that is so funny.

My brother once wrote a card to my mum that said fuck you perfectly. He was six. Mum composed herself and said what does that say. he said 'fank you.

I like the idea of everyone being there when I want to see them but I don't want to chat over the washing up. Or the compost.

Guadalupe · 19/03/2010 07:34

Snaps are wheat. Though I was attemping non wheat for the bloat and tonights jeans. Which is why I made the cake, nowing I would cave in over cake.

CoupleofKooks · 19/03/2010 07:34

right are we going to say things like why are we on the thread and what we want to do etc?
oh lots of you have said why, all the chins and things

yes well i don't fit the vast majority of my clothes, and i think i look ok, then i see a photo and ooh dear, and i am in major denial because i keep buying clothes a size too small and then looking in confusion as they won't do up, or even nearly do up, so come to think of it they must be TWO sizes too small

well initially i would like to lose 6 lb by, well, tomorrow please
failing that - mid april
is that realistic?

long term a stone would be fab
will think about when i could try to lose a stone by

i am planning to do this by not too much crap and lots of fuh and vuh
and a bit of running (possibly unless foot too dodgy) and some weights

oops ds2 has pooed be back later

I am a whole year off the fags. Which is wonderful. Except for I am 40 in 2 months' time and as a birthday present, my ultra-whizzy matabolism has decided to leave home I have put on a stone and a half. Which is fine. Still ok. I was pretty skinny before. Except I too have those rolls above my jeans and I cannot see my pubes any more when I look down.
Which is porobably good as they are probably grey.

Hi Bbeee. What's your favourite jam?

Am off to do good allotmenting. Have eaten porridge made with water and a splash of semi-skimmed. And some melon.
I have been very manfully avoiding all the cake my colleagues bring in for work.
Life without cake is a life without meaning for me, you know. [glum]

Boco · 19/03/2010 09:15

Guad - no bbee admitted to cheating, I was just confirming. I'd never doubt your apples.

I want to lose a stone and for it to stay away freva. Don't know when by. I need more activity - i think that starting my new job will make a big difference because it's going to be busy and out and about and so I won't be sitting down all day, eating biscuits.

CoupleofKooks · 19/03/2010 09:15

giving up smoking is fab
you know molly you might end up looking a bit younger with more weight on you? this is my pathetic delusion anyway

am going on a theatre tour thing this morning and then picnic if weather nice enough
boys are both tired and fractious
me too i suppose

Well I need to lose the stone that I have put on recently, asap would be good but I guess by the summer is more resonable. None of my new clothes fit and I look lardy.

Also, am probably heading into a premature menopause and I REALLY need to be as well as possible. When you have it early you are much more likely to have problems with osteoporosis and so on. They like you to have HRT until you are fifty - that would be nearly 20 years of it for me. I need to make sure my general reserves, calcium and so on are good so I start off in a good place. My diet is key to this. I must eat as healthily as possible.

You can see I have got my priorities in the right order!

EllieMental · 19/03/2010 12:17

Um, no, amd not fat exactly, but like Guad, have a weakness for cake.

Someone at school asked me if I had been a day without cake this month
It was my birthday, and i had 3 cakes . then dh's birthday, then dd1's, then mother's day, and all that cake adds up, you know.

But I did quite good yesterday.
And today (minus the 3 pieces of toast to make up for no cake )

Think I have PMT actually.

Oh, we are going lambing on Sunday - is that really a verb????

Avi, I don't believe you are almost 50, that si impossible.

Oh and Ellie, v v good on no smoking.

pointydog · 19/03/2010 16:57

I need a little repertoire of simple meals that I can make in the evening and that the kids will either like or I can easiyl adapt for them.

I am currently eating smaller portions of our evening meals but they are all a bit stodgy really.

And I am lazy about food and can't really be bothered finding out new ideas. So any ideas of yours welcome.

pointydog · 19/03/2010 16:58

otherwise what I tend to do is have a couple of biscuits when I get in and then not have much tea at a ll. That's not good

CoupleofKooks · 19/03/2010 17:48

guad what is the deal with HRT? i don't really know much about it

avi you can stand next to me, i expect i look older and fatter than you
what are you doing for your birthday? what a good one to celebrate

littlerach THREE cakes? am jealous

pointy if you are hungry when you get in you need to think of things you can eat that are quick and healthy and satisfying
then tell me what they are because i am buggered if i know
er no, i mean, nuts? dried fruit? fresh fruit - oh is it you that is funny about fruit? how about making up some salads and just having them in the fridge waiting for you?

for meals you could have a smaller portion of what they are having but with lots of veg or salad
we like: frittata which you can put extra veg in,
pittas or wraps with hummus and salad
pasta with pesto (small portion with loads of veg)
baked beans and jacket potato
or baked potato with hummus, avocado and grated carrot
small piece pizza with lots and lots of veg and salad

are these any good? they are all very easy
maybe they are too easy and a bit junky?

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 19/03/2010 17:51

molly is it really planting time? oh lumme
i am so rubbish at gardening
last year EVERYTHING died because we didn't water it
the lettuce grew but we didn't pick it
in fairness it was a tough year in some ways i suppose? but anyway was really crap of us

OP posts:
pointydog · 19/03/2010 17:53

yes, that sort of thing, thanks. No, not too junky. Not for I. FRuit is fine.

ahundredtimes · 19/03/2010 17:53

hey pointy, Franny's got this thing, like, a document. It's hard core, ask for that.

Well I don't feel like I need to lose weight - because I have you understand - and I seem to eat okay, and I'm 41 so no anxiety about being 40.

So I'd better just say hello.

CoupleofKooks · 19/03/2010 17:56

so how did you lose it? don't say coffee and brie
just tell us in 3 sentences then you can flit

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 19/03/2010 17:57

I stopped eating carbs and butter. I ate a lot of fruit, veg and meat. I had smaller portions.

ahundredtimes · 19/03/2010 17:58

There WAS a lot of coffee involved too.

CoupleofKooks · 19/03/2010 17:59

that's fine except for the carbs and butter bit. i needed you to just say you did some deep breathing and had a glass of hot water and lemon juice every morning

oh well
thank you

goodbye

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 19/03/2010 18:00

It took ages though. We started it WAY back. On a 10/10 thread you were all and worried because dh lost a ridiculous amount of weight v quickly. I remember it well.

CoupleofKooks · 19/03/2010 18:02

oh yes! i do remember
well the no carbs bit is just bonkers, to me, as you can't (shouldn't?) sustain that way of eating and i think changes should be long term or you just put weight back on
but you are obviously going to say you have never looked back, so i will
