I want the plum I can't have, and it's driving me mad - 10/10 thread with new added BOOTCAMP

Well some of us have strayed from the path of righteousness. Some of us have been off MN for a while. Some of us have got a bit porky apparently So this is a 10/10 thread with added extras.... the usual 10/10 thread remains (I think it's still going?) for people who want to eat more fruit and veg but don't need / want to lose weight.

The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. This is a kind of splinter 10/10 thread, the focus IS on weight loss / inch loss, as well as improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being, but the idea is to do this by eating healthily and getting more exercise, rather than anything drastic, cutting out food groups, etc. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

but the choc was very thin, more of a crackle or a glaze

Boco · 20/03/2010 19:08

cereal for breakfast
soup for lunch (and some crackers and cheese)
small bit of pizza, lot of salad for dinner

Am home alone with dd2 for the weekend as dd1 and dp have gone to London. We are feeding ill guinea pig and attended dog funeral today. We made up a poem, it was v. mmoving.

littlerach · 20/03/2010 19:27

Choc ocvered dried apricots? They sound nice. I like the yoghurt covered ones.

I had delicous veg chilli fo rlunch woth rice.
And a pear.

Then sandwich with lots of cucumber and tomato and a bit of cheese in for tea.
And a biscuit!
And some grapes.

But am eyeing up my chocolates from dh fo rmy birthday that are all different drinks. So there was green tea, chilli vodka, absynthe, mulled wine and soem others. 3 left.

pointydog · 20/03/2010 19:37

2 teacakes with good handful of sultanas in em
dried apricots
orange juice
small salad portion and lots of coleslaw (although mayo dressing was too thick) with baked tater and cheese
another small salad portion with cold beef and potato salad and two crackers and cheese

now having wine. Might have houmus and tortilla chips later.

That is actually a good saturday for me. Although I also had three starburst in the car (en route for walk in woods) which dh said were in teh glove compartment left over from our half-term journey.

This thread went a bit odd though. Hello to toot. Oddness not great obv.

EllieMental · 20/03/2010 19:52

I spent all day transforming our bedroom from a junk-room into a boudoir, in order to jump on dh. And fricking period arrived an hour ago. Now I want to undo all my the pat fortnight's good work by eating chips with cheese on and drink wine.

We will have asparagus wrapped in parma ham and parmesan, steak, and salad. see, seduction dinner all planned.
And now we have ds1's shouty friend staying for a sleepover . He is a bit deaf so has no volume control.....
and ds1 is giving us a terrifying glimpse into what is to come in the coming months. Puberty is not so much beckoning as standing on the street corner with a megaphone.

sorry was rushed last night!
i think my problem is it feels like we have very little time to 'do' home ed
if he was able to follow his own interests all day and i could just facilitate and do 'strewing' and all that, i would be much more inclined to be 100% autonomous
but large parts of our day are spent on mundane stuff, and ds2 takes up a lot of time and limits what we can do while he is around
ds1 can't spend the morning building some intricate structure with drawing pins and matchsticks for instance - unless he wants to do it in his room, which he doesn't

anyway for right or wrong i find i feel better if we have done something more structured each day
we can work intensively in short bursts and get some basic stuff done eg reading and writing
i left reading as long as i had the nerve to do so, then kind of cracked last year
he really loves books and i was not getting enough time to read them to him - i could see the payoff if he was able to read independently
so i pushed on that and i think i am glad i did

we also go to quite a lot of workshops with the home ed group, as we enjoy them and it's a nice way to spend time with other people
they tend to learn non-academic subjects there, eg singing, dancing, drumming, sport, but it is not child-led

i think we have the balance about right, for us
i would say the majority of his learning still goes on under my radar, but i keep enough going on on the surface that if they come knocking on my door i have got Evidence and Worksheets

Are we being as strict as having weigh in days and start weights and goal weight and so on, because personally I don't lose a bean if I jusy try and eat a bit less. I've been trying to do that for weeks.

I think, why I have only eaten air for the last week and not an ounze is off and then when I REALLY think about it, actually, I stuffed my face quickly in the corner with my eyes shut.

My list of yesterday for eg - looks very good, but still, portions were big.

Are we going to just generally announce if we have had success of a pound or two rather than a set day? I don't mind either way, in any case I am going to have to do some sort of recording, and I am happy to talk generally here if thats best. I can see we would want to avoid being competetive, although I am naturally competetive. My eyes narrowed at the restraint of Boco's one slice of pizza

I threw away my old big trouseres. ALL of mine are too small and uncomfortable.

I am about to make dcs pancakes. This will be a test of will.

Boco · 21/03/2010 11:10

Oh Guad I have the undoing flies problem! It's definitely hips where the whole extra stone is living. And i may have been restrained with the pizza but then ate a packet of jelly beans and drank half a bottle of wine.

Guadalupe · 21/03/2010 11:22

competitive even, I think I have spellexia

Mmm - jelly beans, I nearly ate a fluffy one down the side of the sofa last night but I resisted.

Half a geobar [only because there was half a one for some reason]
banana
apple
orange juice

CoupleofKooks · 21/03/2010 15:05

i think it's entirely up to you whether we have weigh in days and all that
for myself i naturally start new things on a Monday and i used to start a new thread each monday, so maybe that would be a good day to weigh in if people want to
i think it would help me also, so i think i probably will say if i have lost any
but some people might not want to

tiger what you said was really helpful, i actually feel like i understand now what the problem was
people feel like some of us disappeared en masse and then we all came back en masse and it must be a conspiracy type of thing?

i don't want to keep picking the scab but obviously it would be nicer if people were comfortable with each other instead of prickly and paranoid

i was at a children's party and i had Planned Ahead and Brought My Own Snacks and i ate them in the car so i wasn't hungry and i didn't have to Eat All The Fairy Cakes And Steal Dses' Quavers

although i did try to get a bite of his crunchie that he won for pulling the silliest faces during musical statues
he didn't let me

OP posts:
Boco · 21/03/2010 15:15

I would like to do weighing. I've never dieted in my life - and just trying not to eat cake doesn't actually work so i need to make more concrete changes. A weekly reporting of loss or gain would be good. will weigh myself tomorrow.

I can understand tiger's reading of it - but not like that for me.

littlerach · 21/03/2010 16:34

I don't even own scales.

Dh and i are "cutting back" a bit on portion sizes and snacking.

So far today
muesli
piece of toast
banana
peanut butter sandwich

Do you know, I resisited homemade cake and chips?

Twice?

Pretty good.

Am having roasted veg and cous cous later.

Guadalupe · 21/03/2010 16:34

Oh good. New week, new start.

Well done for taking snacks. Preparation is key I think. I lost 2 stone this time last year and the biggest thing was knowing what I would eat and being prepared for those moments where you have to eat something.

I find rice cakes and salsa very good. Also apples, and bizarrely crumpets were only 1 point. I like them with a lot of marmite and a teaspoon of peanut butter, nicer than they sound.

Beetroot is great too. It makes salad filling in place of all those things that make a salad nice but are quite calorific, olives, sun blush tomatoes, artichokes in oil, avocadoes, seeds and so on. I know these are good fat but I tend to have ALL of them on my salads making them delicious and me dumpier.

Balsamic vinegar, beetroot and capers and herbs atm, maybe a few seeds.

Guadalupe · 21/03/2010 16:44

Mmm, I love roasted veg, Rach, I might have that tomorrow. My resisting today was in the form of abandoning family at the carvery and having a nice walk to the coop in the sun. I bought loads of veg and salad and chicken and fish.

Trouble is I have eaten my 'dinner' half an hour ago. Seems quite a long time till my pre bed crumpet. Maybe I should just go to bed early. Like six pm.

geobar
banana
apple

rice cakes
salsa
orange juice
5 almonds

Roasted salmon beetroot chicory rocket tomato
and herb salad
grapes
ww toffee bar [left from last year]

2 rich tea [tbc] - ie if I can't last
crumpet

CoupleofKooks · 21/03/2010 16:59

thing is, if i really have to cut down on eating so that i can't have seeds and avocado and stuff, forever, i think i would rather be this size and just buy better clothes
i am really hoping that exercise and not eating so much crap will mean i can lose weight

i am still bfing so god knows it shouldn't be that hard! when i had ds1 i could eat what the ruddy hell i liked and was much smaller
i didn't put weight on until i stopped breastfeeding him

OP posts:
CoupleofKooks · 21/03/2010 17:00

we are having baked potatoes, baked beans and cheese
i am roasting some butternut squash, onions, mushrooms and peppers in the oven for tomorrow, while the potatoes are baking

planning
