Help misdee and Peter - NOW

Hi all,

I am sure loads of you have followed misdee's posts about her dh, Peter, who needs a heart transplant urgently.

His op tomorrow will buy him some time, but a heart transplant will be needed very soon.

So many people have posted with love and hugs, asking what they could do to help etc. and misdee has previously mentioned carrying donor cards or going on the Organ Donor Register , but I'm sure many of you, like me, feel utterly powerless to assist in any other useful way at all.

Well....

Now there is something you can do.

Harefield Hospital is about 60 miles away from misdee's house and as she is still learning to drive, her folks or her sister, sparklymieow, give her a lift several times a week. The petrol for the trip costs about £10 for the return journey. As you can imagine, doing this every other day soon adds up. If you can, will you sponsor a journey to Harefield ?

Whilst misdee is away from her kids, she also needs baby sitting services, which also add to the cost of each visit. Any sum at all can be used to cover a baby sitter to give misdee a break so she can spend some time with Peter. Could you donate whatever it costs you to hire a babysitter for an hour ?

Peter is facing a pretty major operation tomorrow, and I thought it might be nice to show support by offloading some of this financial burden from misdee, just so life is that little bit easier IYSWIM. She has enough to handle without getting into debt to fund visits to the hospital.

I have run this by MN HQ who have been really supportive of the idea. If more money than needed comes in, misdee can donate it to the Heart Unit at Harefield Hospital, which is under threat of closure.

One of Peter's inspirations in this terrifying journey is a guy called John Fisher. He had his transplant on the 30th July 2000. You can read more at his site here . Accordingly, MN HQ will collect cheques made payable to S Williams until 30th July 2005:

Mumsnet misdee
PO Box 657
Ipswich
IP1 9AE

You can also make a contribution by paypal directly to misdee's paypal address which is djmisdee @ hotmail.nospam.com

(remove the spaces and the .nospam).

misdee, I hope you will allow everyone on MN who cares for you to help you out a little and we hope Peter's heart comes soon.

Please be generous lovely MNers, all of it will help.

Feel free to bump until 30th July !

Hub2dee, what a really lovely idea. I'm a bit messed up financially atm - can't afford council or leccie bill, been on mat leave so can't do this just now - but hopefully will have had a couple of pay days before too long and sort myself out somewhat and be able to donate. H2D - get back to looking after your DW now - and make sure she knows what a lovely DH she has for herself.

gingerbear · 05/07/2005 23:28

hub2dee you are wonderful.
What a great friend you are.
Of course I will give whatever I can.

what a fantastic idea Hub - Am literally completely skint (well we have about £70 left of the overdraft to spend) - but am expecting some money in my paypal account in a few days.

Won't be able to give much - but I'll certain contribute.

Good luck tomorrow -!

sparklymieow · 05/07/2005 23:30

Hi all. It was just an idea. Other people will make it happen, and misdee will be the one sweating it out.

As you've said... I've got to disappear and be husbandly...

Any amount - however small, WILL help. Really.

If MN do it through subs etc. it is more complex to administer, there is a fee taken out by the merchant, so it will just be easier to send a cheque, or set up a paypal account.

If someone doesn't want to do that, maybe they can CAT sparklymieow for her address and send a suitcase of cash which sparkly will haul around to her sister's.

LOL.

Nighty night, and thanks for the warm welcome to this idea.

Go donate ! Carry on bumping, and let's help misdee out, and raise some funds for an incredible hospital too !

X

PS - I must go to DW now, but feel free to link to this thread from misdee's other threads, or to link to it if you're chatting to your buddies in antenatal / postnatal threads etc. etc.

A fantastic idea hub.
I think we all want to help Misdee and Peter in some way but its not practically possible for some of us due to location etc.

Could MN not collect donations via their subscriptions? Im sure this was done once before.

Paypal charge a fee for receiving payments dont they?

Fimbo · 05/07/2005 23:39

.

hub2dee · 05/07/2005 23:42

Paypal levy MUCH smaller fees than credit card processors IIRC.

It will be quicker and easier, though I appreciate not everyone can do it. It also muddies the water wrt subs processing, renewals etc. MN might set up some kind of system in the future to handle this kind of thing, but it's not in place at the moment....

So....

If you've got a cheque book....
