Eat fruit and vegetables - 10/10 thread BOOTCAMP, all welcome

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

RIP Flossie. Poor piggy. It was a short but happy life.

Hello to the newbies!

My sister is here. I should get offline and talk to her

littlerach · 24/08/2009 19:27

Poor Piggy

SB, dd1 used to do that and I dreaded going anywhere with her.
She did grow out of it eventually, think it coincided with school actually.
I tried the countdown thing but sometimes felt it worsened the situation.

Cous cous salad with pepper and spinach and pne nuts
Casserole with peppers, sweetcorn, tomatoes, onions and baby corn.
Apple crumble.

TigerFeet · 24/08/2009 19:33

DD does it too SB. All the frigging time.

It was quite heartening last week when her friend did it when she left our house, dd looked confused and sad and asked why she was doing it, and I pointed out that she does it herself all the time and perhaps she'd like to think about how it makes other people feel next time.

Lets see if it sinks in

Tomaotes
Onion
Nectarines x 3
Broccoli
OJ

ThePinkOne · 24/08/2009 19:45

DD has been a right stroppy madam today. She screamed at me cause I suggested she have a drink of water instead of another drink of milk. Didn't last long though and she didn't get the milk! She tends to do sad rather than stroppy when we have to leave anywhere. She wails that she wants to stay and that she misses wherever/whoever. I just tell her that all the lights will be going off and all the other people going home for thier lunch/bed and imagine how boring it would be then!

Grapes.

Welcome new people!

RIP Flossie (by the way, you might think that given my adopted animal has carked it after only 6 months they might offer me a refund for the other half a year? Ooooh no. There is a Flossie Memorial Fund that I might like to donate to and I could buy a keyring should I choose to remember her in this way )

Look at naughty LR sneaking in the pine nuts

Hello Leo. Welcome. Lots of newbies. Stick around and enjoy

Poor old Flossie. I loved the poem Moll. You are very clever being able to do things like that. I have NO imagination.

DS has been through a lot SB, it may not be an excuse but it may be a reason. It will pass. It is NO reflection on you. You always sound like a fab mum, even if you don't feel like one all of the time.

banana
juice
cucumber
tomatoes
beans
sweetcorn

SuperBunny · 24/08/2009 19:52

Yeah, the warning might make it worse but making him just leave somewhere seems to not be good either. I don't think I can win! I'm glad that she grew out of it... at least there is some hope!

OP posts:
SuperBunny · 24/08/2009 20:14

Actually, I feel much better now. I hope that works, TF... sometimes DS seems appalled when another child has a big strop and behaves as if it is something he'd never do

I have eaten far too much blackberry cake.....

ThePinkOne · 24/08/2009 20:45

Mmmmm, we're picking blackberries tomorrow. Recipe please!

mollyroger · 24/08/2009 20:49

erm, ish, because i fiddle amounts depending on whether I'm making buns, a round cake or a loaf.....(loaf cake takes 200g of everything and longer lower baking)

100g sr flour
100g sugar
100g butter
2 eggs
blackberries

cream butter and sugar, add beaten eggs and flour alternately. Gently stir in blackberries. pop a couple of blackberries near surface.
Bake 180 degrees for around 15 mins or skewer test.

Fend off predators until cool. Eat!
Repeat an hour later when first cake has gone

SuperBunny · 24/08/2009 20:57

I am eating blackberry crumble. Yum!

ABitWrong · 24/08/2009 21:11

Morning all.

Taking the baby to a farm centre today, so after an hour watching her eat grass while ignoring the animals I'll be able to forage in the wonderful farm shop, which should get me well on my way to ten.

Yesterday:
banana
clementine
handful of frozen berries with ice cream yoghurt
cabbage
carrots
tomatoes
juice

Still falling short, but I will try harder, I promise. The baby got up to 7 too! Blackberry cake sounds delicious. If I get some today I might be tempted to unleash my inner Delia and have a go. I am not a natural baker, but am willing to try for the good of my health...

Littlepurpleprincess · 25/08/2009 08:29

ok, you've convinced me. I'll join you.

ABitWrong · 25/08/2009 08:38

Erm...measure out 4oz or so of wholemeal SR flour, or more, or white if you prefer, or a mixture...
Gradually add sweetened soya milk and mix/whisk well until you have a reasonably but not too runny mixture...
Add chopped apples and mix (chop apples fairly finely unless you like them crunchy)
Oh and cinnamon
Add blackberries last cos they turn to mush if overmixed

Fry in dollops...they should be the sort of dollops that spread a bit in the pan but not too much or the fruit is left sticking up above flat pancake, see?

TigerFeet · 25/08/2009 09:45

Blackberry and apple pancakes sound lush

I've had a really shit night's sleep [yawn], between them my aching hips, my kicking baby and my snoring dh conspired to keep me awake until gone 4. Never mind, the sun is shining so I'll go out for a waddle round the shops later.

I am craving carbohydratey shite today

mollyroger · 25/08/2009 09:59
