Lets get this into perspective: Quick Survey -Do you know anyone that has had/has Swine Flu?

...and I don't mean that you've "heard that someone at X school/street/place" has had it, I mean someone that you actually know really has had it/has got it.

I don't know anyone that has and wondered if thats the case for the majority of people on here or not?

Actually scrap my earlier answer. Just found out today that one of my ds' friends has it as do his dad and sister.

Botbot · 20/07/2009 21:42

4 cases at dd's nursery, friend's daughter and workmate. So that's 6. Am in London.

Reckon it's inevitable we're going to get it, just don't want it to be before we go on holiday the first week of August (crosses fingers frantically).

sweetnitanitro · 20/07/2009 21:58

Just spoke to my dad and he's had tamiflu but not been tested for swine flu. My friend's DD (8 mo) had some antiviral, not sure what it was, but I don't think she was diagnose with definite swine flu.

Me and DD saw my mate and her DD last week a day or so before she got ill and we've both been ill for a week now so I dunno if we have it or if it's just a bad cold or what. Another friend's DCs are ill too. I don't think many GPs are diagnosing it now, they are just dishing out tamiflu to anyone that sneezes.

SolidGoldBrass · 20/07/2009 22:31

According to Facebook two lots of my mates are in quarantine (two entirely separate households, that is). Luckily I haven't seen either lot in the flesh for about a year.

JamieJay · 21/07/2009 09:23

I know seven people who've had it in the last fortnight.

But, as mean as it sounds I suspect a couple of them may have just had a bad cold as they weren't swabbed just diagnosed over the phone by GP checking a list of symptoms.

Kewcumber · 21/07/2009 09:27

1 case in nursery 1 case in work, both confirmed.

Sunshinemummy · 21/07/2009 09:41

Boss's husband has it. He's the only person I know.

Tortington · 21/07/2009 09:41

no

cheesesarnie · 21/07/2009 10:59

ds2 has it,one of his friends has it and one of my aunties has had it.

dikkertjedap · 21/07/2009 11:18

DH had it when on holiday, all got tamiflu and dh had to stay rest of holiday in apartment, dd and myself could go round. Dh was week later confirmed when we were back home. He had very high fever which was difficult to bring down and felt really rotten for a few days but with the appetite of a horse (so I thought that it couldn't be sf, but I was clearly wrong). Gave tamiflu in belgian chocolate syrup (lots) to 3 year old dd (for 10 days, prophylactically) and she was fine, so was I.

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 21/07/2009 12:18

Look, now there's a proper survey - this is a link to the thread not the survey

It is supported by the HPA and you should fill it in whether you have symptoms or not. I think the implication is that you can re-do it if symptoms develop.

It is a Good Thing to help the science in this way. And the interactive map is really interesting (you can ACTUALLY see how many cases in the survey are reporting in your postcode...)

Is it just me who is a little bit too fascinated by this ?

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 21/07/2009 12:19

ACtual survey here

Madsometimes · 21/07/2009 12:54

I did the survey. I have a sore throat and a fever but no other symptoms. It said that I did not have flu, which I agree with. I am concerned though that we are diagnosing everyone with a fever with SF in this country. This seems madness, particularly in the case of children. My children run temps of over 39 with routine colds.

Madsometimes · 21/07/2009 12:55

btw at least 1 case confirmed in dd2's class. Over half the school off with viral illness.

TheEarthIsFlat · 21/07/2009 14:29

We're currently housebound with 'a viral illness' which may or may not be swine flu. Ds (7) has been in a bad state for the last couple of days, with all the symptoms on the swine flu symptom checker. Luckily, he's feeling rather than being sick (phew), but very shaky and lots of headaches. Me & dd are both a bit achey & dd has her usual runny nose so maybe we've got off very lightly . Looking forward to infecting dp when he gets back in a few days' time.

Phoned gp as ds has a heart problem & dd is under 5, he said so long as we're all reasonably ok no need for tamiflu which suits me fine.

One of dp's colleagues had it a while back so there is a link.

For us, no different to normal bad cold/flu except feeling very sorry for ds as it's supposed to be his holiday!! Making sure I get lots of cuddles while he's too tired to run away!

VulpusinaWilfsuit · 21/07/2009 14:39

Are you going to join the survey EarthIsFlat?

Eilatan · 22/07/2009 19:42

Big fit looking PE teacher at school, said it was "horrible" but was back at work after 4 days. I remember when I had the full blown flu 1999/2000 and I was dying for 10 days (at least).

HTHs. Not being flippant just trying to get into perspective
X

pollypentapeptide · 22/07/2009 19:53

Well we apparently all have it although again - diagnosed on the phone by a doctor on the basis of a list of symptoms which I have had on many occassions in the past.

So who knows?

I think this thread would be more accurate if people also clarified whether SF was confirmed or suspected as I agree that GPs are now dishing out Tamiflu to just about anyone who wants it.

ilovesprouts · 23/07/2009 17:31

hi my dd and her bf have tamiflu ,me and ds2 are on antibiotics

80sMum · 23/07/2009 17:33

I don't know of anyone that's had it (and I work in a school).

MGMidget · 06/08/2009 13:49

Yes I know two adults - neither swabbed as they stopped the swabbing but both severely ill so they really knew it. (None of this 'mild' stuff some people are describing). Presumably at this time of the year 'seasonal flu' would be a rarity so if you had a severe bout of what seemed to be flu at the moment it would seem reasonably likely it was the swine variety. With children it may be harder to tell as they get so many viruses and may not be old enough to describe their symptoms accurately so may be harder to tell with kids unless tested.

lucykate · 06/08/2009 13:53

at dd's school, one boy was in hospital until his temp came back down it went so high, couple of other cases suspected. no-one was swabbed though.

friend said where he works, all the ones who are always off ill have had it , be a bit embarrassing for them if the haven't, and then really do get it.

so, no, i don't really know anyone, it's all friend of a friend hearsay.

Scorps · 06/08/2009 13:54

i know several, about ten, but they all had it weeks ago. No-one now.

Gotte · 06/08/2009 14:03

I know four people who've had it, two parents of kid in my daughter's class, nephew, baby son of wife's friend.

Gotte · 06/08/2009 14:05

Sorry, should have mentioned the two parents and nephew were in late June, so swabbed, and the baby boy was swabbed because he was so young.
