Sazzles, my Dad is a personal trainer. He says if you crash diet (which is what you're doing if you're only eating 1200 cals a day and you're obese), your body goes into survival mode and slows your metabolism drastically.

You need to do it more gently than that. You ought to be eating way more than that, really. How many calories does FF say you should be eating?

So how much do you weigh? I'm amazed it says you need to eat so little. I weigh 10st13lb and I need to eat 1531 cals!

Have you told it you want to lose lots of lbs a week?

not sure how LL works.

The thing is, the heavier you are, the more calories you need to just survive - breathe, move, digest food etc.. If you're eating as little as or less than that, your body will hold onto fat, rather than release it, as it thinks you're in a state of starvation.

Try telling FF you want to lose just 1lb a week and see what that says.

Sazzles..how frustrating for you. My dieting only works when I do vigorous exercise as well. Exercise for weight loss has to make you 'breathless',

I could never achieve anything with watching what I ate at all and now I am an exercise junky so that is not too much of a problem.

Do you do sign language? I started to learn but had to stop through illness, I would love to pick it up again.

Flamingo, thinking of you with the tablets...I hope they do what you want.

mistlethrush · 17/06/2009 09:57

Sazzles - I have a very similar problem - mine is worse in that if I eat the number of points (WW) or calories that anything 'says' I should eat to lose weight at a reasonable level, I happily put on weight, which is somewhat frustrating. So I am working on having under 1000 calories a day - but making sure that I'm active as much as I can - I've managed to persuade DH to get up and oversee ds's breakfast so that I can take the dog for a walk rather than repeating 'Ds, I'm not going to answer any more questions until you've finished your breakfast - please finish it. No, no more talking, please eat your breakfast' etc etc etc etc etc (I think that ds finds all those hours without talking a strain and has to try to make up for it when he wakes up!)

ANyway, last week FF said I should have lost about 6 lbs - I lost 1.5. Still got a way to go before I'm going to be relatively happy about going to the wedding in July - but still ahve over a month to go, so time to work on things a bit more!

flamingobingo · 17/06/2009 10:10

How much more have you got to lose mistlethrush?

OP posts:
mistlethrush · 17/06/2009 10:13

By the wedding I'd really like to be a stone lighter - but I've got a way to go after that anyway At least I've still got all the clothes to fit back into!

BecauseImWorthIt · 17/06/2009 10:18

Blimey - you lot don't half talk! I can't keep up with you. I haven't even managed to read the rest of the last thread never mind catch up on this one.

How about you do a round up, Shiney, like MP does of the whole of MN?!

Will read this, but just wanted to report that all going well here. I was supposed to be going out to lunch but that has just been cancelled, and I'm quite grateful for that as it means I can stay in control of what I'm eating.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

flamingobingo · 17/06/2009 10:19

Ooh yes, a roundup would be great! When I go out for the day it takes me ages to catch up!

mistlethrush · 17/06/2009 10:27

BIWI - I had a meeting yesterday and was (unexpectedly) asked to stay for lunch - there was a bar/restaurant there - I was asked what I'd like - I asked for a salad - anything with that - ham/cheese - no thank you, just a salad - no bread thanks... and happily sat down to a nice salad - although I think the client thinks I'm a bit potty (he should know that by now really!) But I promptly ate a banana and some yoghurt when I got home - but I think it still ended up being a good day.

Weighed in at nine stone this morning so havelost 4lbs since thread started and two and a half stone since last September

DD was awake half the night so am knackered but will go to the gym anyway

bellavita · 17/06/2009 11:46

Hello all

Aww, Shiney, hope you feel better soon.

Mistle I didn't realise yo worked - what do you do [nosey emoticon]

Had a good day yesterday and aim to have another one today, have just been to Sainsbo's and bought myself a stir fry pack to go with the odd bits left in the fridge and I have some jumbo prawns as well. So hardly any calories there.

Am feeling a bit peed off today due to work last night, but that's another story, so doing a lot of stomping about .

Hi to everyone else

TripleTroubleMuffin · 17/06/2009 11:55

I'm here VT.

VinegarTits · 17/06/2009 12:02

Welcome TTM, we all have different goals for trying to lose weight/eat healthy

Top tips seem to be:

Drink plenty of water
Register on food focus

erm

butt clenches are a good form of excercise and improve your pelvic floor (my tip)

will think of more and come back to you

Shiney has done really well and lost 9lb in a couple of weeks so grab her for her top tips

mistlethrush · 17/06/2009 12:03

Bella - what happened?

If you were close enough I'd lend you my food chopper - very good at relieving frustration (although you can end up with puree if you're not careful!)

Forgotten who was mentioning dry frying - I had fried eggs with no fat last night, not even a spray . They went on top of my salad (and I managed not to have any mayo either)

TripleTroubleMuffin · 17/06/2009 12:05

I am trying to drink more.

I feel hungry now.

Have had a banana, slimfast bar and milkshake today. Have to go out soon and won't be home until 3.30 so wondering whether to east or not. Might just drink some water.
