For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

LR, there is one in the town beginning with D.

Franny, I don't know about the law but they do label v weak alcohol generally I think, like shandy and the ginger beer that comes in glass bottles...Fentimans?

I ate a peach this morning.

Have just set up tent in garden. This is definitely exercise.

Can somebody remind me how roast veg like tomatoes and peppers and things? And can I do something similar with mushrooms for fusspots? To go with gnocchi.
I know I should know.

SuperBunny · 23/05/2009 17:56

Who's going in the tent, TooT? Funny, I was just thinking about sleeping in a tent in my sister's garden.

Roast veg: chop them up, pour on oil, season, roast @ 180-ish. Tomatoes and peppers probably only need 20 - 30 mins. You could do the same with mushrooms - I'd do it all in one dish.

TooTicky · 23/05/2009 17:59

Bless you SB.

I put the tent up partly to check for mould (I put it away wet in September and haven't looked at in since!) and miraculously it is okay
I suspect some of us will sleep in it some nights this week. Actually, I might move out there...tis peaceful.

SuperBunny · 23/05/2009 18:16

I love sleeping in a tent!

TooTicky · 23/05/2009 18:19

Will the tomatoes explode if I don't prick them?

TooTicky · 23/05/2009 18:30

Yes, sleeping in a tent is great. It's when you add the prospect of catering for fusspots that it starts to get scary. It is hard enough feeding them at home. Would like to take them away proper camping though.

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 18:34

roast mushrooms are lovely - they sometimes need slightly less time

well i found a law that says you must label things which have more than 1.2%
does this mean you needn't if it is less than 1.2% i wonder?

OP posts:
TooTicky · 23/05/2009 18:34

What about thyme? Do they need thyme?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/05/2009 18:42

I think ginger beer can taste like it has alcohol in, maybe because it ferments?

DH loves all of those Fentimans drinks. Especially the cola, it tastes just like liquid cola bottle sweets. It makes my teeth itch just thinking about it

apple juice
banana
grapes
cucumber
apple
mushrooms

Must try harder today.

SuperBunny · 23/05/2009 18:57

TooT - we should go camping when I get back. 5 Children and 2 very capable mothers shouldn't be a problem, should it? It would be lovely and peaceful

Tomatoes do not need to be pricked but I prefer them cut in half, otherwise they go a bit soggy. Thyme would be lovely but not necessary.

Franny, if it has less than 1.2% alcohol, you wouldn't notice it. There'd be a bigger effect from those alcohol wipes they use before injections.

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 18:59

no, it didn't taste of alcohol, but i could feel it in my head
i honestly am wildly sensitive to it
i am still convinced even though dp like you says it can't have had

TooTicky · 23/05/2009 19:03

SB, I am sure you are a very capable mother. Who is the other one?
But yes, let's!!

I pricked them but didn't cut them cos they are dinky. Don't have any thyme. Sigh.

There is somebody in the village selling plants from their garden, veg and herbs and all sorts, and I am too damn shy to go and buy some. Somebody kick me please!!!!!

Guadalupe · 23/05/2009 19:04

I think drinking fizz in the sun can just make you feel a bit drunk anyway. If it has beer on the label and you are paranoid about it that could easily make you feel more drunk though it's not likely to contain more alcohol than other fermented stuff.

Our BBQ was lovely. I had tikka salmon with cucmber yoghurt and pesto salad and cous cous and eddamme bean thingy, along with a wing and a venison wheel. And bucks fizz as they were giving samples in sainsburys and it was on offer but it was very sickly.

We have a verry convenient concrete corner here that makes having a bbq safe as you can shut it off with the plants on one side and table on the other. I can't imagine how we are going to do this at the new house. I expect I am giving it too much thought.

Thanks for table advice. I have decided that none of the colours are exactly right so I must get new samples. Good job I did it this way round. Then again, if I hadn't I would have just put up with it and had one less thing to decide.

I am blithering now. Going to get another g&t and read the paper.

SuperBunny · 23/05/2009 19:08

TooT you MUST go. It will be lovely. Please do.

I meant to put a or next to my capable mother thing

Guadalupe · 23/05/2009 19:10

Toot - go and buy herbs and put them in your dinner and then eat it. Easy peasy.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/05/2009 19:22

Yes Toot, go buy herbs and plants.

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 19:52

yes do TooT

i finished Twilight and it was pretty awful
the writing was terrible
their relationship VERY dodgy - and Bella so limp and passive it was painful
something about the set up and the vampire characters quite memorable - but mostly - wotaloadoftrash - this is a HUGE hit though?

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 23/05/2009 19:53

a vampire novel?

TooTicky · 23/05/2009 19:54

Oh, a friend has just lent me Twilight and raved about it...

Guadalupe · 23/05/2009 19:55

I haven't really read any fantasy stuff. I have just finished a modern day Adrian Mole type thing. Very very funny but cringeing blunt and graphic sex bits.

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 19:55

i know guad
it is wildly successful and has sold millions
it's crappy s+m fantasy fulfillment without any actual sex in

OP posts:
TooTicky · 23/05/2009 19:55

Right, if I whizz this delectable looking roast veg for fussy buggers children, will it be watery or okay?

sorky · 23/05/2009 19:55

been to York today to meet some MN'ers and had lunch at Betty's. yum!

I could, with a bit of creative licence, count one portion of veg in the club sandwich I had, and one portion of fruit in the Sundae.
erm,.....some salad with a takeaway tonight

TooTicky · 23/05/2009 19:56

No sex? [disappointed]

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 19:57

sorky where has your cake gone?
