For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I have finally given in and called dentist. I am scayurd. Have had tooth ache ever since he did a filling, so i think he must've done somthing bad to a nerve. What if he has to scoop out my nerves? Or pull out my tooth? Root canal work - what is that, is that what he'll do? He is so rough and fat handed and everyone leaves him because you come out bleeding after a clean - but i can't get in anywhere else nhs. ohhhhh wail and groan.

Thank you.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/05/2009 11:27

I hope you get it sorted Boco, there was something on the regional news the other day about Suffolk having a severe shortage of NHS Dentists, and my nearest town being the worst in the county. Oh great, my current dentist is in Ips and I was hoping to get someone closer, sods frigging law.

On the bright side I made some cheese and onion muffins this morning, have yet to taste them yet though.

Inspired by Mollys thread yesterday I dusted down some retro cd's and we listened to OMD's Greatest Hits whilst baking. I bloody loved hearing it again

ahundredtimes · 21/05/2009 11:40

NHS dentists are impossible to find everywhere ime. Someone I know went to a female dentist, and said it was a revelation. What small hands! I hope it'll be okay Boco, good luck.

There is someone on MN who has a budgie, and this budgie flies about the living room all day. IMAGINE that. It's attacking things. I am in thrall to this person's thread.

Boco · 21/05/2009 11:56

This man has hands like big hairy spades, and he lacerates your gums for FUN I tell you! And he has a strong accent and says 'err you must floss every day and eat only safety snack Madame!'

Are you torturing yourself on bird threads again 100?

My mother has a friend who lived in Africa and had a parrot who cleaned the mascara from her eyelashes with it's beak. Imagine having a parrot instead of eye makeup remover?

TooTicky · 21/05/2009 12:26

Good luck Boco. Toothache is miserable. D'you want some of us to come with you andlook fierce and unpredictable?

Avi, I woke up at a funny time. Well, not funny ha ha.

pinkspottywellies · 21/05/2009 13:10

Right you lot. I'm thinking carb free lunch. How the heck do I do it? What shall I have?!

I bet no-one's around now!

pinkspottywellies · 21/05/2009 13:16

Oh well if you're not going to help I'll just and make my white toast and pate and have some crisps for good measure!

I might try it tomorrow if I plan a bit more in advance!

TooTicky · 21/05/2009 13:29

Um...fruit? Veg? But don't you need carbs?

pinkspottywellies · 21/05/2009 13:38

Guad says carbs are like crack and we must have a carb free lunch in order to stop snorting crack eating more all afternoon!

Do crisps count? Could I have a jacket potato cause that's not refined and white and crack like?

How are you doing TooT?

Guadalupe · 21/05/2009 13:59

I most certainly did not give that instruction. I said I try not to eat carbs at lunch because it makes me want cake in the afternoon. Anyway I have just had ryvita, but seen as I don't really eat bread at all, it's pretty easy for me to forgo it at lunch.

What about a chickpea salad, or tin of makerel with homemade coleslaw, or chilli halloumi with spinach?

FrannyandZooey · 21/05/2009 14:02

pink you are bfing lady and only recently had a baby
i command you to eat carbs
but lots of protein also
nuts
wholegrains
dried fruit
etc

my graze pack came
fresh pineapple
yogurt coated apricots with raisins and almonds
dried cranberries
= 3 portions

FrannyandZooey · 21/05/2009 14:05

100 i have great bird news for you
we have been out watching the cormorant - it dives for aaaaaaages and then sits on bank and holds its wings out to dry them
it's all thin and snaky

then - kingfisher whizzed past! like electric blue lightning thing
i only saw the colour and shape tbh

hoorah!

then baby coots! about as big as a pom pom
mother and father still feeding them bits in their beaks

birdtastic

pinkspottywellies · 21/05/2009 14:06

Ooh! My graze is coming tomorrow

I know it wasn't an order guad just thought I'd give it a try.

I had pate on toast - can't get much more processed than that

Guadalupe · 21/05/2009 14:06

God, I think I might curl up into a little ball and go into a coma if I ate a jacket potato at lunchtime. It will be like a bullet in the belly. I am not great with jackets either tbh. I only like them with fat stuff.

No reason why you can't eat it though. Why are you trying not to eat cake in the afternoon anyway? The only way to get through small babies is with cake imo.

I am being quite free with my opinion this afternoon aren't I? Sorry.

Boco - poor you. Just ask them to give you lots of anaesthetic. You will dribble for the rest of the day but it won't hurt and the adrenalin you get from all the local is quite fun.

I think there are a lot of NHS dentists here but it's a bit far to come for a toothache.

Guadalupe · 21/05/2009 14:09

I have a kingfisher in the garden but it has a hole in the belly and is made of plastic. Ds wanted it when we went to buy strawberry plants.

I might investigate this snack pot business.

FrannyandZooey · 21/05/2009 14:11

boco i think you are v brave
our dentist is NHS but she is terrifying
i can't possibly take ds back to her or he will be afraid of dentists for life
we had a lovely one but she went back to her own country
the new one has scary gold glasses with jewels on like those 50s kind
and her hair is about a foot high
and she is from africa and traditionally built like Mma Ramotswe and that is not necessarily what you want when she is leaning on your chest
she scraped ds1's teeth without telling him or me she was going to do it
that's quite a big deal when you are 5 isn't it?
my friend says we have to go private - she says it is FAB and not that expensive
but you ahve to have a major check up when you join with them and it is £70 each [faints]

Did you get the code with your box Franny? I guess I would get one too. Can you only use it once?

FrannyandZooey · 21/05/2009 14:12

guad please use my code [snack pot whore]

My nhs dentist is fine. DH went the other day though and apparently he has gum disease that's kind of hidden under his teeth and the teeth are perfect but if they don't sort out his gums they'll all fall out He's got some treatment booked.

Guadalupe · 21/05/2009 14:29

We must have been lucky with our dentist. We all go together and take turns sitting on the sofa in the corner and all the children laugh as they go up and down in the seat. They quite often change actually. Always South African though. In fact if I hear a s african accent it makes me think of the dentist.
