Thought I would start this as the other one was getting really long.

Since I started the other thread I have lots a few pounds, put them back on, lost them etc etc etc. Finally realised that I need to do something about it after this last week of chocolate and crap, went out today for lunch and ate far too much.

On Monday I am going to Rosemary Conleys, i did go before but the time didn't really suit me, but this one finished and starts earlier so I can go when DH is at work while my mum has ds. So I am really going for it now.

Congrats on the ones who joined me last time and have actually managed to lose weight. Watch this space.....

sb34 - wight watchers works for me - and I can have anything I want - provided it is planned for ..... everything in moderation - is what I have to keep learning.

eidsvold · 24/05/2003 09:23

i am so silly - I meant - weight watchers

JanZ · 26/05/2003 08:50

1lb this week - down to 10st 11lb. However, I now know that there is a reason for my weight loss slowing down: I'm pregnant (7 weeks), so I'll have to leave this thread - although I will continue to try to eat healthily.

It's not planned, although I did want another one, and was getting worried about my age (42). Dh is NOT happy - concerned about his age (44 at end of June) and ds's quality of life. He's feeling trapped that he'll have to work now until he's 65. Having accepted a package back in November, he's been slowly exploring various options but now feels pressurised. As he puts it - last week he was on holiday, now he is unemployed.

Anyway, this is not the thread to go on about our problems - I'm sure I'll be using other threads for support.

If dh was happier, I'd be over the moon at my unexpected news: as it is, I'm not.

WideWebWitch · 26/05/2003 10:47

JanZ, well, I'm going to say congratulations anyway. Sorry your DH isn't thrilled, but do you think he'll come round? I hope so. Anyway, I hope you feel some happiness at this news soon.

Ghosty · 26/05/2003 11:40

Congratulations from me too Janz ...
If you want to talk you know where we are!

Hi all, JanZ, congatulations and hope the situation with your partner resolves soon.

I am back on it with a vengence today, have finally booked dd's christening party thing for 6 weeks time so have to lose a stone by then!

Good luck to everyone else

Chiccadum · 27/05/2003 21:14

Hi everyone, had 5th weigh in today and have lost another 5lb, making it 23lb so far.

megg · 28/05/2003 09:19

Well done Chiccadum, can I have a bit of your willpower? I've put on a pound this week through no excuse on my part. This week is going to go downhill rapidly if I don't get my act together, unfortunately I've pulled a muscle in my back and popped my rib out again so I'm off work and need chocolate as a comfort, can't exercise and am getting really down about it. Helpppp!!!

Rosiemum · 02/06/2003 22:00

After a wonderful break in Ireland I managed to stay the same weight last week - so no loss, but no gain - still 14st 3lb - total weight loss 1st 4lb. I have now joined a gym and went tonight for my first consultation with the fitness bod - and did my first workout in far too long.

Am feeling really positive still - hoping to drop another stone and a half before the summer hols.

catlie · 02/06/2003 23:13

Can I join you all in your quest for weight loss. I had a huge shock today, I went with my best mate to the local rec centre and plucked up enough courage to weigh myself.

I'm still in shock now and have decided enough is enough. I will get back into my size 14 jeans. I have 2.5 stone to lose and the diet definately started today (I'm using weight watchers, doing it myself).

HELP...................

breeze · 03/06/2003 07:51

I am amazed that I actually managed to stay the despite the troubles of the past week and the huge amount that I have eaten, next week holiday (oops). Well rose rosiemum for staying the same despite your holiday (hope you had a good time).

Catlie - Welcome and good luck

hiya

can i join your thread?

i'm starting the atkins diet this week (very contraversatal i know). i need to lose about 3 stone to be in my ideal weight range. i'm gonna miss my morning tea and toast. anyone who is on this diet can u give me some tips? i'll be starting it as soon as i manage to get to the shops and buy loads of fresh veggies and meat.

Rosiemum · 03/06/2003 22:56

Missdee, no flames from me! I've been on Atkins now for about 6 weeks, and have lost 1st 4lb so far - I had 4 1/2 stone to loose at the beginning.

Tips - be careful with the fat, don't go mad and remember it's not an excuse to pig out on butter and cream!
Make the most of the 'free' salad and veg.
Avoid anything not on the diet like the plague - it will matter!
I had terrible headaches for the first few days - just took painkillers and made sure to drink loads of water and they did go away after about 4-5 days.
If you get the real 'munchies' then a small handful of macademia nuts can help you through.

Anything else I can do to help, just ask! I'm no expert, but will do all I can.

misdee · 03/06/2003 23:02

Rosiemum.

i'm not a fan of butter and cream anyway, tho i may sneak some cream into artificlaly sweetern coffee. i use a george foreman grill to cook my meats anyway, so i wont be going mad.

thanks for the tips.

Checking in again - now down to 14st exactly - total weight loss 1st 7lb.

Have joined a gym and am managing to get there most days for a short workout, and I'm really enjoying it.

Here's to life!

megg · 08/06/2003 19:43

Have lost 2lb this week so I'm back on track. I've got a birthday party in July so I'm hoping to have lost a stone by then.

Sorry about that my mouse is playing up it keeps double clicking, dp says he's going to take it apart but for some reason that makes me really nervous as he has a problem getting all the pieces back together again without having a bit left over!

So good to read how we are all getting on. So far - 1 1/2 stone loss for me. I am pleased with my progress so far.

SamboM · 09/06/2003 11:18

Msg for Atkins people - can you tell me what the princples of this diet are (all I know is that it is low carb) and how/whether it works and whether it is bearable?

runragged · 09/06/2003 19:33

The first two weeks of the Atkins diet are a nightmare, basically its detoxing and you must stick rigidly to it, after that there are loads of things you can eat, just no pastry, pasta, rice or potatoes. So as long as you already cook from fresh your family meals it is quite easy to adapt.
Breakfast, eaither have a cooked b/fast(arrgggh) or fruit, fruit salad and cheese / ham etc
main meals have the meat, pie without pastry, and extra veg instead of potatoes.
Have meat sauce with salad intead of rice/pasta.
Lunches could be a bowl of soup and salad, cheese etc.
Snack on fruit, cheese, cold meats.

It is definantely bearable if you can afford to buy all of the nice munchies, if you try to stick to a normal weekly budget you will fall at the first hurdle. It makes you less hungry and so you eat less automatically.

I have to confess to having not done it(!) but most of my family have and they swear by it. One drawback though is that you do end up smelling of raw meat apparently!! That gem from my sister.

Rosiemum · 09/06/2003 21:39

I'm doing Atkins right now and it's the first diet I've ever found that I can easily stick to.

I avoid fruit though, as all fruit contains a high proportion of fruit sugars, and it's carbohydrate you need to avoid.

I eat bacon, or omelete for breakfast, normally with a grilled tomato and mushrooms; a salad for lunch with cheese, ham, tuna and mayo or such like; then whatever I'm cooking for the family including the veg but without potatoes, pasta, couscous or rice. If the family are eating something like pasta or pizza, I do myself another big salad with some pre-cooked chicken or similar.

No I haven't had problems being 'bunged up' which is what people normally ask! Eating this much salad and veg solves that, and I only eat eggs once or twice a week.

I feel it's a very healthy diet contrary to some viewpoints - I think most people who knock it don't realise how much salad and veg you can eat - you just need to make sure you eat veg that don't contain more than 10% carbohydrate. So sweetcorn and root vegetables like carrots are out.

I've successfuly stuck to it, even on holiday, for 7 weeks now and have lost 1stone 7lb; I haven't eaten chocolate for that length of time which must be a lifetime record for me! I feel really fit and healthy, and have started going to the gym several times a week.

The first week or two are difficult as your body adjusts, but drinking loads of water helps.

Can't recommend it highly enough!
