For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

lol I'm sort of saying it to wind Boco up really.

YY I shall demand essays. Good idea. It won't really be like that though, I think they'll feel all uncomfortable and I shall start conversations about shoes instead.

ahundredtimes · 23/04/2009 18:36

Thank you LR. Appreciate it. Yes discuss MY book. It's weird isn't it? Or nice. Can't decide.

ahundredtimes · 23/04/2009 18:37

Someone will say 'well I've been to South Africa, and it wasn't like that for me' and I will say 'how interesting'. I hope there are crisps.

TigerFeet · 23/04/2009 18:43

Too many commas? Well if that's the worst thing he can find to say about it then you're OK I reckon! Did I tell you I finished it? I really enjoyed it, and was most by the twist at the end... I wasn't expecting it at all.

I would employ Rach/Pointys m a k e i t l o o k b e t t e r tactic but I fear it is hard to stretch out the zero f&v I have eaten today, which has been a mostly toast day, I missed some tablets on dd's op day and have been paying for it over the past 36 hours or so. I am starting to get over it now though

I have just had to tell dd's friend off for wandering into our house whilst dd was eating her tea I sounded exactly like my mother

pointydog · 23/04/2009 18:44

I used to go to ly local library's book group (until I got Very Busy) and once a year they invited an author in. If you are going to a public book group in a small town, I predict:

  1. mainly old women
  2. shocking dress sense
  3. very polite
  4. happy to listen to the author talk at length about the writing process or his/her travels etc
  5. cheap wine and crisps on offer

If you are going to a private book group in a big city, I have no idea what to expect.

pointydog · 23/04/2009 18:45

oh and my list has grown

banana
many garden peas (no petits pois malheureuesement)
lots of yellow pepper

littlerach · 23/04/2009 18:46

Yes, a bit strange I'd have htought.
But also rather an honour.

ahundredtimes · 23/04/2009 18:53

Yes, you are right, is nice of them.

Excellent. Thank you TF too, is v. kind of you. How is dd? Is she recovering okay? Are you feeling better? Do we know when you are due? We must think of names soon, no?

TigerFeet · 23/04/2009 18:59

DD is fine, her eyes are red in the corners but it doesn't seem to be bothering her much. I'm OK so long as I keep taking the little white pills

YY to names. It's a little girl, due 12th Sept. We ran out of inspiration with dd, it was the only name we both liked. She has a top 10 name, although we didn't realise that when we named her. Middle name poss Margaret or Florence (dh not aware of this fact yet ) after MIL who is lovely and wears those names well. DD's middle name is that of my Gran so would like to go to dh's side for dd2.

ahundredtimes · 23/04/2009 19:00

OMG how exciting! In september TF! That's so soon.

Oh good, good names. You MUST do a thread, and we can all join in. What names are there on dh's side?

TigerFeet · 23/04/2009 19:01

Shall I start a thread then? I bet it doesn't end up being as long as Franny's

Boco · 23/04/2009 19:03

Lol at too many commas. I dont' think it was too many, I think it was the thing of commas instead of full stops - i dont think it was criticism, it was more an observation of your style, but I did not the tensing of jaw and thought oops.

Boco · 23/04/2009 19:04

That's my birthday TF! And dd1 has middle name Florence. How exciting it all is!

ahundredtimes · 23/04/2009 19:06

LOL like 'too many notes.' What did you think to my book? I thought there were too many commas.

It's made me laugh for ages actually, despite initial tensing.

ahundredtimes · 23/04/2009 19:06

Yes, start thread but I have to go out in a minute and I'm WANT to name your baby.

TigerFeet · 23/04/2009 19:07

[[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/743866-A-sister-for-Lucy?rnd=1240509991057 Go on then, my arm has been twisted]

ahundredtimes · 23/04/2009 19:08

I'M WANT??

Celeste. Can't we call her Celeste? Or Farrily or something like that?

TF will you leave link on this thread and then I can come and join in later.

TigerFeet · 23/04/2009 19:08

I loled at the commas remark. I didn't particularly notice I must say. I like longer sentences. When is it coming out in paperback anyway?

I love my friend Caroline. She is a conservationist, a novelist and, conveniently in this instance, a good gardener with a great sense of design.

My new trial has been how to landscape the very small square of a garden that we have, as all it is atm is a slope of rubble. All the men say have low wall and a bit of lawn and some beds. I wanted the lawn the same level as the patio but it's too silly to dig out the whole thing, and expensive and blah blah blah, but a little wall?? A little naff wall to say, here is this bit, and now here is a wall to that bit? No no no.

Anyway, if you have followed it this far without falling asleep, I just knew Caroline would know the answer and sure enough, she gives up her lunchhour to um and ah in my garden and then she says it. She says why don't you put reclaimed railway sleepers along the length of it, just two or three to make steps up to the grass and then you can line the edge of the step with nice pots of things and you can sit on the steps in the morning having your coffee.

I nearly cried. I hugged Caroline and promised to bring her chickpea salad for a whole week. I can't believe i have been waiting my whole life to walk out of my back door and sit amongst my pots of things on the wooden steps having coffee in the sun and I didn't realise it. Sigh. Thank you, Caroline.

Er, anyway, um, food. Very bad, six meringues and counting.

FrannyandZooey · 23/04/2009 19:21

i did think the punctuation was unusual actually
please note that is not a euphemism for 'wrong'
but i did notice it was a little individual at times

i sent my sister's copy off today 100, i will let you know what she says
she will say sensible things not "ooh blimey"

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 23/04/2009 19:27

hoorah for caroline

so we are agreed on apples
do we have to have that leaf bit in? as usual i am aiming for minimalism
and 'leaf' is not actually a vegetable is it

OP posts:
Guadalupe · 23/04/2009 19:28

Sorry, that was a bit dull but I feel better for my exclamtion and indeed proclamation for Caroline.

Apples? Leaves? Have I missed them all?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/04/2009 19:35

Is it a line from a UB40 song, or the title?

Franny, can you please forward me details of the meet up as I don't have Avi's email and vice versa. Ta

dried fruit
banana
blueberries
smoothie
humous
tomatoes
cauliflower
veg pakora thingy
mushrooms

Ah, another cub for Tiger Feet. How exciting! I've put my ideas down on the name thread.
