For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Guadalupe · 21/04/2009 17:51

I haven't tried parentline but I have heard they are good. Ds1 has a whacking great four inch long bruise on his arm and a smaller one on his face from being shoved in a doorway yesterday. I said do you want me to do something and he went, 'nah, what's the point in that?'. Is not a regular occurance though.

Franny - how can you not know what a tangle twister is? They are yum. I love them.

I say a garv eh

Guadalupe · 21/04/2009 17:52

qu'est ce que c'est tangle twisters?

I assume that means wtf is a tangle twister? My french is dire.

TooTicky · 21/04/2009 17:54

Oh Mits poor ds.

SuperBunny · 21/04/2009 18:06

That is how I say it Franny - a sort of apologetic mumble.

Mits Why were they doing that? Was it at school? How is he at school? How is he?

littlerach · 21/04/2009 18:10

Mits, that is terrible.
Is it linked to school?

A friends ds has been picked on, and ohysically hurt, by 2 girls in his class, they are yr 6.
He was v embarrassed when he finally told his mum.

Tangle twister? No idea what they are!

TT doesn't like apple today. Just grass. Thsi RLW is awkward

We have a big yellow patch on the lawn from his run. And lots of little poos. Dds think it is hilarious

ahundredtimes · 21/04/2009 18:16

Was it kids in the neighbourhood Mits?

How awful, I'm really sorry. I'm sure Parentline will be helpful - I hope they are anyway. Your poor ds doesn't sound like he has much safe space at the moment I can see why it upsets you so much - does he willingly go out to play with those children? Is school okay? Am sorry. It sounds tough.

ahundredtimes · 21/04/2009 18:22

I don't know what twisty things are or that algae stuff. I don't know nuffink.

BUT I did see samphire in Suffolk Guad. In a museum I thought of you. (Now nervous it wasn't samphire)

Guadalupe · 21/04/2009 18:27

Why was it in a museum? You must see some on the marsh and pick it and eat it.

tangle twister

SuperBunny · 21/04/2009 18:27

Ooo, samphire. yum.

TooTicky · 21/04/2009 18:28

Franny, ds2 is 3 stone at seven and a half. Chill.

SuperBunny · 21/04/2009 18:28

mushroom & barley thing
peas
olives
peppers
Apple cake (is delicious, thanks toot)

ahundredtimes · 21/04/2009 18:43

Yes, in a museum, like some sort of weird local plant life which must be dried and kept behind glass and peered at by us. Had samphire, and also whelk's eggs behind the glass. We were pleased to see the whelk's eggs as dd had picked some up and put them in the car door - and then we found what they were. Was an instructive half hour.

ahundredtimes · 21/04/2009 18:44

Oh right, now I know what a tangle twister is.

FrannyandZooey · 21/04/2009 18:56

oh god those - ds DREAMS of one of those

i had a job once catering on the Sandringham estate and one of the things i had to do was prepare a monster pile of samphire
it was like something out of Rumpelstiltskin
i have never enjoyed samphire since

thanks for weight reassurance
i looked on his chart where i wrote it last year and he has grown according to that
i distinctly remember him being 3 stone for about a decade though
anyway sorry for flapping
i was watching him eat dinner and he just always eats all his salad and veggies first
and then asks for fruit all evening
i know this is a dumb thing to complain about but he does look, well, thin
i am getting the message they are meant to look like that though
his little bottom is tiny though! and the knees and elbows and shoulders all sticky outy! and he has big hair and a big mouth anyway, so he looks a bit Alice having opened up like a telescope

Hello all

LR so pleased about your noduly boobs! Hurrah for nodules. Hope the pie was good

Mits I hope Parentline can help. Poor DS

Franny DS is just over 3 stone and has been around that for over a year....I know he is younger but doesn;t look like he's going to suddenyl start putting on weight anytime soon.

I was one of the long stringy kids as well, with big feet.

I have eaten loadsa f&v today but I am just going to yoga so must dash, list later.

littlerach · 21/04/2009 19:17

Fran, dd1 is quite skinny. She has been for the lats year or so. She had shorts on today and her little legs are quite thin.
But she eats non stop if allowed and takes masses for lunch at the moment.

Dd2 however needs ot grow upwards! Bless her

Just about to have more salad and some indian starter things like pakora and bhajis.
Then fruit.

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 21/04/2009 19:17

Have grinned and beared as much as we can with DS but he is starting to revert to former anger management issues, which is hardly surprising. You try to do the right thing and tell them to walk away and it gets very tempting to say just turn around and belt the biggest one as hard as you can find some new friends....

They are the children his age and older that he will be at senior school with so..

Oh and he is another string bean..., and eats more than me lol...

He is like noo-noo and goes round eating all the scraps that he can find.

nickytwotimes · 21/04/2009 19:24

Aw, Mits, that is rotten for you.

Also can't believe the surgery. Very unprofessional.

LR, what a relief for you!

Listing for today:
juice
apple
avocado
veggie stew with at least 3 portions
mixed berry fruit salad

Ds at shops getting groceries atm, so will have pineapple and strawberries soon.

FrannyandZooey · 21/04/2009 20:53

apple
banana
grapes
raisins
sweetcorn
roast veg mostly parsnip
mixed salad
cacao beans

not great better eat more stuff
ds1 helped me make this superb frittata; it's the nicest we've ever had
roasted parsnips, potatoes, peppers, onions and mushrooms, plus corn, veg sausages, and cheese

he also made the entire salad himself
i was upstairs changing ds2 and he ran up and said "mummy i heard a noise. i think it was the salad. i've made it into a very convincing face and i think it's a bit too realistic"
when i assured him salad could not make a noise no matter how anthropomorphic he said "well i didn't know. you're bigger than me, that's the only reason you know that."

LOLOL

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 21/04/2009 21:46
