For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

pinkspottywellies · 03/04/2009 20:57

Raisins, pear, kiwis, tomato, sweetcorn, peas, carrots, juice. 8. I'm sure there was something else this morning. Maybe not. Oh and some grapes but not a whole portion yet. I'll pick some more as I pass the fruit bowl Xmas Smile

Lovely DS has a very scabby dry head. Any ideas? I've been putting on olive oil to some effect, I think.

TooT go and give him a nudge and tell him to get the hell up!

TooTicky · 03/04/2009 20:57

have been but was short. Field dark, dd1 tired. better than nowt though.

TooTicky · 03/04/2009 20:58

Pink, is it a cradle cap sort of thing? If so, i came to the conclusion that it is just a normal phase and doesn't actually seem to bother them so didn't worry.

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 03/04/2009 21:12

Mmmm pink, sounds like cradle cap to me....and olive oil is wot I used. Hello....

Toot..... for you. I couldn't run either. . I am doing short ones at the mo. I like my friday night runs, especially at this time of year, the scenery is outstanding.

If I get my last bit of work done, I can have the weekend off but have legs like a baby deer.

pinkspottywellies · 03/04/2009 21:18

Glad you got out TooT

Thanks for the advice, I just don't like having a scabby baby At least I'm not picking it though which most people I speak to are admitting to [bleurgh]

Tigerfeet I sent your book yesterday. Hope it's arrived.

I'm sure there were more things I was going to say. Can't think now!

FrayedKnot · 04/04/2009 00:49

'Lo

I have two things to list

Apple
Cabbage

The kind of day when any food was better than none and it was mostly biscuits / toast

Did go out to an uproarious comedy night though where a man did a weird madonna impression in a purple leotard.

Ah well. I think I may need to get back to normality tomorrow with f&v and the gym.

Am also officially ON HOLIDAY Xmas Grin

TooT sounds like the angry tonsils were totally justified, glad you got out for a bit.

FrayedKnot · 04/04/2009 00:51

Hey, what happened to my grinning tonsils?

FrayedKnot · 04/04/2009 00:53

Ah. When is an F not an F?

When it's a B.

Right.

TooTicky · 04/04/2009 05:37

You were up late FK.

Where is Franny?

And Sfuffit? She went off to sing in a fort and forgot to come back.

littlerach · 04/04/2009 09:28

Morning.
How's the axe, TooT?

FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 10:01

morning
i am meant to be having a relaxing breakfast in bed after a lie in
god the nights have been iffy
anyway
have ds2 wriggling around madly and ds1 talking non stop

yay dp just got ds2 to wee on the potty! he hasn't done it for dp before

Guadalupe · 04/04/2009 10:10

That is quite amazing. I sort of don't believe it can really happen but the theory makes sense. Do you know when he needs to go or do you hold him over and he responds to that cue?

Passion fruit, kiwi, raspberry, grape and apple salad.

FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 10:17

we make a cue sound guad, which he knows means 'wee' because we made it a few times when he weed spontaneously on the changing mat, so he got the connection

some people know when their babies need to go - they follow their babies signals
i just try him say 20 or 30 mins after a feed or if i am changing his nappy anyway
sometimes he doesn't wee - i guess his bladder isn't full enough - he won't just squeeze out a few drops like an adult would if you told them to wee

  • but it is definitely responding to the cue rather than just 'catching' it - you can see he understands and you can see him tensing to do the wee it is amazing and i can hardly believe it myself!
FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 10:21

his bottom is worse than ever though! i don't think partial potty use is going to fix it
oh well

Guadalupe · 04/04/2009 10:24

That is very clever. And it must be nice for him not to have a wet nappy on.

Poor thing that his bottom is still bad. Where are you with things? Is he using the cream atm?

Guadalupe · 04/04/2009 10:25

Ds2 doesn't usually wera a nappy at home but I haven't made the step of going out without one yet.

When he needs to go at home there is a mad dive for the potty, or he will go on the loo but unless I get one of those protable ones, not sure we'll make it.

Guadalupe · 04/04/2009 10:26

and I never felt that impressed when friend's children who were supposedly potty trained weed on my floor tbh.

FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 10:31

lol oh we are still very much using nappies
we are very very much beginners at this

he has been off the h/c cream for about 2 weeks

it has slowly but inexorably got worse since stopping

we have derm appointment in a month

Guadalupe · 04/04/2009 10:33

So it has clearly got worse when the cream stops? Did they say how long they expect you to need it?

I thought the dermatologist said she wouldn't see you again, good that you have another appointment. What about the rest of him?

FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 11:36

the rest of him is really fine, really good, which is excellent and i am trying to just focus on how good that is
i mean that is not what we expected or were told to expect, so we are delighted

the steroid cream is actually the only thing out of all the many many many snake oils and conventional creams that has made any dent on it
it is wonderful while we are using it, but as soon as we stop it deteriorates
we have been told to use it for 2 weeks at a time maximum
and imo that in itself is quite dodgy
the creams say in the patient information "not to be used under a nappy" it is absorbed through the skin if under a dressing they also say be very cautious about using on infants - 1 week maximum so we are already feeling dreadful each time we use the creams
the guilt is marvellous
however he is so clearly much happier when we use them
he doesn't itch or feel uncomfortable

the doctors are quite gung ho about the h/c cream and just say "oh have a break and then use it again"
which i am not happy about
so off to see specialist again, but tbh i know she will just say the same thing
we are only ones who can decide about it
but it is hard to use a cream on your child which says clearly "do not use this cream"
however it is also hard to see him in discomfort and to be all puritan about conventional medicine when it is not actually us that is suffering the discomfort
you all know what i mean

littlerach · 04/04/2009 11:47

Fran, it is hard to try and make decisiosns when you can see an effect, but don't want to belive it necessarily.

My onions and spring onions and radishes have sprouted magnificaently.

pinkspottywellies · 04/04/2009 11:58

Oh Fran must be a very hard decision. Do they have to say not to use on babies because of licensing things? Not necessarily because it's terrible and bad but because they haven't got the evidence that it's ok IYKWIM?

DS has a bit of a nosebleed. Well just bloody snot really. Any advice? I think I'll start a thread - only cause he's so young.

Guadalupe · 04/04/2009 12:04

Mmm, littleR. I love radishes.

Well, all you are doing is your best, Franny. You can't watch him suffer when you know it will help so you give it to him and most people would. Atleast he has a break from it and hopefully the patches netween will reduce in severity.

They must have typical patterns that it follows or clears or something like that and people say they grow out of it don't they? At least he is unlikely to remember it. I hope the summer helps.

Guadalupe · 04/04/2009 12:06

I don't know about that, Pink. Has it happened before?
