For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Speaking of meet up - are we doing June?

TooTicky · 01/04/2009 21:09

Pink, if anybody says no, shall we tie them up and drag them?

pointydog · 01/04/2009 21:20

re shaving. Is there a reason why your dd doesn't want to? Fear of razors?

If not, and she just doesn't want to, would it help her to say 'my mum won't allow me'? Dd1 can get herself out of the odd scrape by blaming me for being such a boring mum (although I am of course such a liberal easy-oasy benign-neglecter in reality).

TooTicky · 01/04/2009 21:28

Well she did once take a chunk out of her leg...but also I think she just doesn't want to. Which I can understand.

pointydog · 01/04/2009 21:36

I understand it too. I refused to shave my legs until I was about 18, despite my boyfriend's constant nagging.

EachPeachPearMum · 01/04/2009 22:18

Sorry, still lurking this eve...

pink we have a Kari-me sling, it's a stretchy wrap, and we love it- ds (8 weeks) is very snuggly in it.... but we also use it with dd (3yo) on DH's back... and she adores being in it. [lazy monkey emoticon]

For Wombling... and other UK people...- Superbunny's recipe in measures we understand-

1 cup flour = 135g or 4.5 oz whole wheat flour
3/4 cup = 100g or 3.4 oz unbleached white flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup = 112g or 3.75oz sugar
3 very ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup = 125ml or 4fl oz soy milk
1/3 cup = 80ml or 2.75 fl oz apple sauce (this one is a guess)

Optional
1/4 cup = 40g or 1.4 oz chopped dates
1/4 cup = 35g or 1oz chopped walnuts (omit to reduce fat)

Preheat the oven to 400 ( 200 C or Gas mark 6) and spray a muffin pan with non-stick spray. Sift together the flours, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. In another bowl, mash the banana with the sugar, soymilk, apple sauce, and agave nectar.

Pour the banana mixture into the flour mixture and stir just until combined. Add in the dates and walnuts, and pour into 12 muffin cups. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Serve to everyone who came running toward the aroma of fresh baked banana muffins!

Agree that indifference is a v good skill and will tire the meanies if they get no response. But very hard to do in practise. I was not sporty - I was musical and outdoorsy so not cool. But I had fun and was content. I'm still a bit of a loner really - I mean, I have friends and like them but I am happy doing my own thing without having to worry what others are doing/ thinking/ saying. DD1 sounds feisty. I like her.

Well done PInk, very good deed.

Thanks for translating the recipe, EachPeach

Good sling site = Kangarookorner.com

MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 02/04/2009 09:00

PMSL Franny. You and Boco together make a fab wabbit.

I need to be conmfortable and warm as is all outdoors.

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2009 09:23

toot's dd1 is lovely and very likeable but i can imagine a bit threatening to her peers
she is quite self possessed and rather determined
scary mixture when you are not even a teenager yet

morning all

erm
not much to report here
there is a giant long piece of string in our garden (don't ask me why) and birds keep rather amusingly trying to take it away and make nests with it

no sign of NB for a few days

i had a dream about Policywonk

er
thassit

Guadalupe · 02/04/2009 09:27

I think a lot of mumsnetters probably had a dream about Policywonk last night.

I dreamt I had nits and a stomach ache. I woke up with a stomach ache but thankfully no sign of anything crawling.

I ate so much last night I ought not to have eaten breakfast but the dorset cereal got me. Was lacking in freeze dried berries though, everyone else has shaken out more than their fair share previously.

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2009 09:34

you should always eat breakfast
otherwise you will rollercoaster eating crap all day

off to soft play

ds2 has new silver liner thingies for his precious pampered bot
he has pooed on them
they are hand wash
this is not a good start to the day

MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 02/04/2009 09:45

Policywonk looks so like my best friend it is unreal.
And her RL name is what my dd would have been called.
So I am obsessed with her too.... And her blue coat

Guadalupe · 02/04/2009 12:51

Actually, if I don't eat breakfast at all, if I get up late and have to race out, then it's not too bad I just have an early lunch. Doesn't happen that often though.

If I eat a bad breakfast like biscuits or loads of toast then I tend to eat crap all day. Yesterday for eg, started with crumpets and peanut butter, ended with wine and chocolate.

I've just eaten a very nice lunch of tuna, spinach, capers, red onion, leftover chickpea salad and purple sprouting broccoli. I'm going out tonight. Place mostly serves pizza by the foot but I am going to be retsrained and have tapas.

littlerach · 02/04/2009 13:03

So I have been told to make an appt for further breast exam by dr.
Has ot be after my perios has started but within a week of that.
So that is about a fortnight away, poss 10 days.
I called the gp.
Can't make appt for the Thurs (fortnight today) as dr will be duty dr. She is not available on the Friday.
So I ask for appt on the Wednesday.
Nope, receptionsit can't make an appt for me, she can out in a request and I will hear on Monday if I have this.
Same for the Monday that dds go back to school.

I am, understandably, upset.

So I called back to get on for the Tuesday before, 14th. Nope, can't do that as can only get appts 48 hrs before this daye.

So I have to wait until Monday to hear.

Upset doesn't begin to describe it.

womblingalong · 02/04/2009 13:10

Poor you LR, you must be really stressed, it sounds petty and bureacratic, when you need kindly efficency.

Sending calming, healing vibes your way.

TigOeufFeet · 02/04/2009 13:25

Poor you LR, the politics of the availability of doctors' appointments is mindblowingly unbending at times. I have come up against this myself, when a specific GP has said, come back and see me in 4 weeks, and I have been unable to prebook an appointment and then can't get one on the day [arghhhh]. Hope it sorts itself out.

Eeek they are selling cake, trifle and so forth in our staff shop today. £1 for a mahoosive trifle. 50p for a premium profiterole dessert for one.

I can't eat breakfast atm, or drink anything either, until about 10am. It then takes a superhuman effort not to stuff myself silly for the rest of the day. I haven't put a single pound on, despite oedema and backache limiting mobility and so forth, so obv am not stuffing myself as much as I think I am .

TigOeufFeet · 02/04/2009 13:26
MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 02/04/2009 15:17

gggggrrrreat eater name TF

LR - that is horrendous. Did you explain to receptionist your particular situation? Nobody should be obstructive in such a situation, surely?

I have had similar problems in the past with a smear test recall which had to be done at specific time of the month...

MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 02/04/2009 15:18

must read more carefully, thought Guad had been eating carpet. not capers....

littlerach · 02/04/2009 15:50

Hi, yes, did tell receoptionist (through sobs ) and she was v sympathetic, but apparently that is the procedure.

Gah.

MollyRogerslikeanEasterabbit · 02/04/2009 15:51

PMSL - we have an 'inspector' coming to the house later to see if we are suitable to rehouse a rescue dog.
The boys are very nervous and excited and ds1 (the youngest) has just come downstairs wearing a 'suit' - best trousers (beige), blue stripey formal short, horribly clashing red and green stripey school tie, one of my cord jackets (''well I haven't got a suit jacket, mum)'' and crowned with his brother's too-big pork pie hat!

Guadalupe · 02/04/2009 15:58

I am sure you will be a suitable family, Molly. It will be lovely to have a dog, I bet there are some great walks around your parts too.

Since eating carpet, I have had a cookie, nearly two muffins with butter and marmite, a toffee bar and now hot chocolate. I am like a woman possessed. I have eaten way over my points already and I haven't even been out for dinner yet! Dunno what's the matter with me.

LittleR - I completely sympathise, the appointment system is shite, I have had endless trouble with mine. Sorry you have to worry about it.

littlerach · 02/04/2009 16:15

Thanks for all th esympathy, guys.

They have left a message on my machine ot say that they have made ma an appt on the wednesday.

Now dh is away then so that is a PITA but at leats I have an appt.

Guadalupe · 02/04/2009 16:27

Oh good. It's helpful if you get on with your own doctor then if things are tricky like that you can ask for a telephone appointment and often they can sort something out. My new doctor is very good, last one was shit.

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2009 16:45

rach i find the system a bit irritating but in your situation i would be beside myself
very glad they have come good in the end

guad i just ate half a large bar of green and blacks new creamy milk chocolate
has anyone tried it
gawd it is luverly

have babysitter
have feet up
aaaaaaah
