well what can i say, dd 14 mth ,has been limping for 3 weeks, holding her foot funny, been to a&e 3times, my gp, been told 4 different reasons, anyway she was kept in from fri night and is still in,she is back on a drip having antibiotics, had 2 lots of xrays and is having a one scan tomorrow, they think it is a bone infection, she wont put her heal down, and it is swollen, hard, red and hot.she was in hospital around 3 weeks ago with gastroenteritis, and i am pretty sure all this has been caused by the drip she had then (bad hygiene in hospital) but i am also going to demand a mrsa test, as symptoms are VERY similar.

all in all i am disgusted with the whole experience, lack of hygiene, lack of care and help given, they are eing very cagey about actual diagnosis, but i am going to get to the bottom of it all

wish me luck, , anyone else have any similar experiences?

I'm really sorry to hear about this . Sounds as if your instinct has been right all along. Hope she makes a speedy recovery and isn't too distressed.

suedonim · 13/04/2005 17:14

Poor little babe, Lilsmum. I hope she picks up soon and you can at leasy get home. You must be so at her treatment - we once had a bad time with ds2 in hospital. Apart from giving the children out-of-date food they failed to give ds any treatment for his asthma and he ended up in a worse state than when he was admitted. Dh was furious and told them we'd be taking ds home if they didn't get their act together. Best wishes.

Really sorry to see this Lilsmum. It does seem as if the hospital is at fault. Are you going to do anything about it?

Flossam · 13/04/2005 21:26

Ask them what bacteria cause the infection. Ask them straight out, they should have to tell you if they know, which I think they do. Also if no joy here you can apply to see the notes -there is a charge for this though I think. I hope poor DD gets well soon.

BadgerBadger · 14/04/2005 00:54

lilsmum, so and to hear about this. I really feel for your poor DD and you.

I hope she improves soon and that the infection clears up quickly.

I'm really struggling here not to interject some choice words regarding what has happened! So, $£%&")£("£)) "&&)(£U(&"&" £)&($) £"( £"()(, will have to do for now!

lilsmum · 15/04/2005 08:53

hey everyone, we are home, as i nagged to get out, still havent been told what it was or how its caused as such, but she has been allowed on oral antibiotics for now, gotta go back on tues to see her consultant, and have to phone them if any changes at all to the foot, i ended up yesterday spending almost the whole day complaining about the stay in there, spoke to PALS also the ward manager, so i think and hope i have got my complaints across,

thanks for all the replies asking how she is doing, means alot

Glad to hear she's home. Fingers crossed for Tuesday then.

I hope they acknowledge your complaint. You seem to have had a bad time in there.

Keep us informed.

lilsmum · 19/04/2005 21:24

ok just thought i would update after dd's appointment to see her consultant today....

she will not and can not put her foot flat, the consultant tried today after me mentioning that it seemed to me she couldnt so plan of action is an ultrasound on friday, he also mentioned that he didnt think the oral antibiotics dont seem to be having any effect so she will prob go back on IV also very good chance that after this ultrasound (whatever the outcome) they will put her foot in a cast, for it to rest with as little strain on it as possible (as dd keeps trying to walk on it)

oh and to top it all off,she has started with a bad cold, and she has the worst thrush immaginable on her "bits" so has got some cream for that today

even after all she has been/going through she is still smiling

just found this thread. Lilsmum, I can?t believe what your little girl and your family are going through. It is simply outrageous and I wish there was something practical or useful to say to help. I hope that she gets better once and ofr all really soon and you can go back to normal life again. Keep pestering them to find out exactly what made your child ill - sounds like a cover up to me.

LIZS · 20/04/2005 09:01

Poor little girl - she sounds so brave and determined. I'm sorry you are all going through this. Hope that the hospital get to the bottom of it soon.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 20/04/2005 09:08

lilsmum, I've only just seen this thread - your poor dd, and you, this must be v stressful.

Why has it become so difficult to keep a hospital clean?

Wishing her a speedy recovery xx.
