well what can i say, dd 14 mth ,has been limping for 3 weeks, holding her foot funny, been to a&e 3times, my gp, been told 4 different reasons, anyway she was kept in from fri night and is still in,she is back on a drip having antibiotics, had 2 lots of xrays and is having a one scan tomorrow, they think it is a bone infection, she wont put her heal down, and it is swollen, hard, red and hot.she was in hospital around 3 weeks ago with gastroenteritis, and i am pretty sure all this has been caused by the drip she had then (bad hygiene in hospital) but i am also going to demand a mrsa test, as symptoms are VERY similar.

all in all i am disgusted with the whole experience, lack of hygiene, lack of care and help given, they are eing very cagey about actual diagnosis, but i am going to get to the bottom of it all

wish me luck, , anyone else have any similar experiences?

I really hope your DD is Ok, she is very lucky to have such a caring, conscientious and loving Mom.

Hulababy · 20/04/2005 21:46

I hope your DD is okay; thinking of you and your brave DD.

lilsmum · 20/04/2005 23:17

thanks for all the lovely messages, ok update on the rash... (sigh)

rang nhs direct at 7 am this morn, not much help really, just said go to G.P, so went at 9am, he said it looks like eczema(sp?) (she has had this but months ago, triggered by stupid me changing the washing powder, but has been clear for 4 months now,) he gave me hydrocortisone cream for her face!! i asked him was it linked to the antiiotics he said no way,to me it is definately not eczema, nothing like it, so i rang the hospital ward she was on, they said nothing they could do as she has been discharged and can only help up to 48 hrs after discharge, so i asked for consultants secretary's number, gave that a ring and left a message about the rash with her to pass onto consultant, i later rang back and consultant said "its the antibiotics, stop giving them"

thats it , going to ring again in the morning and try and find out what is going on, the rash is now all over her and is a right mess, and i think her foot or the rash is giving her pain as she has hardly slept since going to bed, and is very restless

PuffTheMagicDragon · 20/04/2005 23:23

Poor little love .

Did the consultant say when you could expect the rash to subside, after stopping the antibiotic?

lilsmum · 20/04/2005 23:29

hi puff, nope not said anything, i am seriously getting pi*d off now, i rang nhs direct again to see what i could do, if anything iykwim, and the nurse was a right cow!! she said to me "no disrespect but how many opinions do you need!?"cow! wasnt about opinions, dd has obviously has a allergic reaction to the antibiotics and i dont have a clue as to what to do! or when it will go etc... feel like screaming with it all, i just want lilly to be back to normal, running around again

OP posts:
BadgerBadger · 21/04/2005 00:24

Lilsmum, how is lilly now? If she has a rash all over is restless and in pain, would it be best to take her back to the hospital? I know this must be the last thing you want to do though, given all that has happened .

Acidopholus is great for balancing the natural bacteria of the body during or after a bout of antibiotics, you can get it in powder form for children in health food shops.

I hope with all my heart that things improve for you and Lilly soon.
xx

lilsmum · 21/04/2005 00:33

thanks badgerbadger... since i posted the message about being restless she has slept well, think will just see how she is in morn, "they" all make me feel like i am neurotic! like i enjoy spending my day phoning around and going to GP's etc, makes me so mad, i am going to chase up this ultrasound in the morn, sick of all the wasting of time, they could have done this last week!

poor little mite today even with terrible thrush, and these hive things is still happy and smiling as she limps around the place! its a complete joke

OP posts:
BadgerBadger · 21/04/2005 00:45

Bless her, she sounds beautiful! It's good to hear she is sleeping well now.

I am so on both your behalfs! Good luck with chasing up the ultra sound tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you. It's so infuriating that they have made you feel neurotic, how dare they! I was quite gobsmacked about they way nhs direct spoke to you, last thing you need at a time like this is for another door to close, I mean, a little support and the right advice goes a long way.

I hope your little love wakes tomorrow feeling better than she did today and that you sleep well too, after all, you have some serious a$$ kicking to do tomorrow.

Goodnight

lilsmum · 21/04/2005 00:48

thanks BB,

oh they better be ready for me tomorrow lol

goodnight xx

Poor Lil Hope you had a better night. I had a rash from antibiotics a year or so back and it was so itchy. Piriton helped a bit but it took a few days to go down.

lilsmum · 21/04/2005 08:14

well the rash has spread even more overnight, roll on 9am then i can phone the consultant up!!

OP posts:
Potty1 · 21/04/2005 09:00

Bl**dy hell lilsmum, your poor dd.

Hope you get to speak to the consultant - if you get no joy I would seriously consider going to A&E and refusing to move til you get some help. If she's been given anti-b's its not good enough
to say just stop - surely she needs some more. There is a sort of arthritis you can get following a Strep infection and it can come with a rash too, although in children it often affects the hip.

Hope you get this sorted soon.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 21/04/2005 09:37

Ooh, I'm so for you lilsmum - how dare people treat you like this! You are rightly looking out for your daughter's health and welfare following her being given an infection in hospital and a dodgy diagnosis of eczema from a GP!

Also, it's all very well the consultant telling you to stop the antibiotics, but they were given to treat the infection she was given in a hospital, so you need to know that the infection will not return!

lilsmum? hope everything is OK.

Newbarnsleygirl · 21/04/2005 16:08

Sorry to hear things have gone crap for dd.

Hope she's feeling a bit better.

lilsmum · 21/04/2005 17:09

well finally got to speak to the consultant this afternoon after constantly phoning his office, they were going to not do her scan till next week but because i have "nagged" they are doing it tomorrow at 11.30am, he will see her tues!!at 10.20am.they may either put a cast on tomorrow or tues when i see him, i told him that she had a bad night last night with what seemed to be her foot, he said "well does it look like the infection has spread?!" how the f**k am i supposed to know??

i asked him about the rash and he said my GP would be the best person to see, so i told him about what GP had said... and said nothing grrrr!!so i went to the chemist and took dd to see the pharmacist and she said it looks to her like a penacillin allergic reaction, so i BOUGHT some priton and it does seem to be helping even after only one dose!

thanks again for all the concern off everyone,

PuffTheMagicDragon · 21/04/2005 20:49

Good luck tomorrow lilsmum .

sacha3taylor · 21/04/2005 21:00

for Lil.

Sorry to hear you have been treated so badly and hope things go well for you tomorrow x x

lilsmum · 21/04/2005 21:33

jeeezz i bet you are all soo sick of me moaning on lol

rash came back with avengance so took lilly to emergency doc at 7pm, the GP was a skin specialist and said straight away...skin infection, from the high dose antibiotics, basically she said the antibiotics have been that strong they have stripped her body of all the "good" bacteria that is why she has the severe thrush and this skin infection(sigh) so its a case of try a moisturiser called DERMOL (anyone heard of this?) if this doesnt help at all then its more antibiotics!! and will take about 10 days to heal, can i please scream?? lol

OP posts:
Potty1 · 21/04/2005 21:53

lilsmum - scream away!!

Dermol is sometimes used for excema but is basically a good moisturiser. The anti-b's must have been pretty strong - I do hope this can be sorted for her soon. Agree with Badger about the probiotics to balance her bacteria again.

Good luck tomorrow.

misdee · 21/04/2005 21:58

dermol 500 is also anti-micro something-or-other. it hwelps stop infections. works very well ands is very soothing.

poor little lil.

lilsmum · 21/04/2005 22:14

yep misdee this is dermol 500..thanks for the info, she said give it a try before she ends up with more antibiotics as it might just clear it, also said i can use hydrocortisone if i want but want to avoid that really
