Since this year started I have been dieting really half-heartedly. I desperately want to lose the stone that I put on while I was down with my PND. No more excuses I am definately going to start tomorrow. I am sure I could lose the weight easily if I just cut out the things that I pick on between meals. I will have a proper breakfast rather than a handful of biscuits and will not pick on leftovers from DS dinner/lunch. Anyone else fed up of not trying hard enough on their diets and care to join me.

almost forgot, many congrats on your brilliant weight loss (and on pregnancy ofcourse!)

JanZ · 03/04/2003 11:31

Can I join too? My target is similar to Janeway's - 1 stone initially (to about pre ds weight) but ideally around 2 stone longer term - back to my wedding weight (it was only 5 years ago!)

I'll weigh myself on Monday and start from then. There's no point starting earlier, as my birthday is on Sunday!

robyn3 · 03/04/2003 12:04

happy birthday

Chinchilla · 03/04/2003 22:09

To check in, I have stuck to 1700 cals a day since Monday. I know it sounds a lot, but I feel much better, and trousers have become a little looser already. I know that most of that is water (first week weight loss is mostly water), but even so, I am pleased with myself. I have even had some sweets. Tonight I had 4 boiled sweets, and I haven't missed chocolate yet.

willow2 · 03/04/2003 23:11

fms - tell more about the curry!

jac34 · 03/04/2003 23:24

Oh !! You skinny women only needing to loose 2 stone, I need more like 4 to get back to my former self, but then I have been fed by an Italian !!
I'm beeing realistic about it though, I feel I'm doing really well during the week, it's just weekends out and about with he kids are my downfall. Having a Mumsnet meetup lunch this Saturday, isn't going to help, I'm bound to eat too much.

Mocha · 03/04/2003 23:44

Can I join in? I have just weighed myself on our scales which also give you your BMI. I weigh 9st12 with a BMI of 36. I am only 4'11" tall so I think this is why the BMI is so high. I would like to get down to around 8st or there abouts and fit into the dresses I have stoed at DPs parents. I don't drive, so when I got out with DD I have got to walk or get the bus. As the weather is getting better I will start walking in to town (about 30 mins) more often.
I have managed to lose about 1.5 st since dd was born in August, I was approx 11st 7st then.

Robyn3 milk is restricted but cream isn't! (milk has more carbs than cream)I gave up milk in coffee when I did Atkins. Took some getting used to but was very determined and now I don't miss it.
Have you all been following "Diet Trials"? The final is on BBC1 tonight (Friday 4th April). It has been a comparitive study of weightwatchers, Rosemary Conley, Slimfast and Atkins.

PandaBear · 04/04/2003 09:06

Morning all - weekly weigh in for me!! Surprisingly I have stuck rigidly to my diet this week (well from Monday anyway!!) and it's paid off - I have lost 3lbs. Now weigh 12 stone.... 1 stone to go. Hope you are all doing well.

Alibubbles · 04/04/2003 10:36

I've been on the Atkins for the last 10 days as I am off skiing tomorrow and didn't want my racing style salopottes to look look like a whale was squashed inside them!

I have lost 10 lbs, back to the weight I was at the beginning of the year, masses to go, but feel a lot better for losing the 10.

2 weeks is about as much as I can do, then I do it Mon - Fr, but restrict my carbs and the wine. Had my first glass of wine last night for 2 weeks and got quite light headed!

Just scoffed 4 Cadburys soli milk eggs that I found in the fridge and I feel sick - serves me right, should have chucked them out with everything else!

Will report back after holiday

IDismyname · 04/04/2003 18:53

Willow2
Just got ds in the bath and sneaked in to check up on mumsnet. Will post recipe over the w/end as recipe book not to hand, so keep your eyes peeled!

Mrmum1 · 04/04/2003 20:05

I just lose 20lbs through Carol Vodermann's D-Tox diet. My wife has lost a good bit as well, although she will not tell me her weight. It is a fantastic diet.

IDismyname · 05/04/2003 09:35

OK, herewith WW recipe for mushroom curry - precisely half a point for the whole dish - and it serves 2, so you can be piggy!!

low fat cooking spray
2 onions sliced
10 oz mushrooms
2 garlic cloves
2 teasp of medium curry powder
half teasp cumin seeds
3 tablespoons tom puree - but I use just a tin of toms
4 tablespoons low fat plain bio yoghurt
half teasp fenugreek - optional
salt and pepper

Heat a non stick frying pan wiith the oil spray, and stir fry onions until soft and brown - about 8 mins

Reduce heat, add the rest of the ingredients to the pan and heat gently until the mushrooms start to release their juices. Cover the pan with a tight fitting lid and simmer for 10 mins stirring regularly.

Remove lid and continue cooking for a minute or 2, then season and serve.

Obviously adding rice adds points, but with so few points for the curry, I let rip (so to speak!) A good blob of mango chutney with it is good, too!

Happy eating

smileyjo · 05/04/2003 23:21

Just found this thread..please can I join in too? Actually feeling quite envious of all you ladies with just a stone or so to lose as I've got about 10 stone to lose...mega scarey but I've lost a stone already since going to Roasemary Conley classes. I find the calorie counting a real drag though so I'm actually doing the WW points thingummy as at my weight I'm allowed 30 points a day which is loads!!!!Anyway, I'm feeling quite positive this week so I'm ignoring the temporary lapse of 6 beefburgers (friend's birthday BBQ....well it would have just been rude to sit there all virtuous with a bit of salad) and oh yes, the enormous bar of chocolate my DH bought poor old premenstrual me!! Ho hum, well I'll behave tomorrow. Incidently my BMI was 47+...the message said LOSE WEIGHT NOW! I'm gonna leap around tomorrow to my Rosemary Conley video while my toddlers try desperately not to be trampled underfoot and my teenager sniggers at me from round the door!

Janeway · 06/04/2003 08:36

Hi all - missed Friday 'weigh-in' (or confession time as I've not scales) as went to a friend's for a couple of day, so here goes....

-last week things had been going well and I'd even noticed that my trousers fitted better (could use the button rather than and 'extender' at the waistline) but all went horribly wrong on Friday - there was a joint celebration - friend's birthday & my and dp's 15th anniv so we went to a very posh restaurant - did go for the salad for starter & poached figs for pud to lessen the impact so crossed fingers.

Took ds to the seaside yesterday - lots of walking & dp ran 5k - luckily we couln't find a chippy for lunch so restrained myself at the italian cafe & had gnocchi in tomato sauce (ds ate about 1/4 of that) and no gelatte.

Oohh... not as bad as I'd thought - crossed fingers & keep going.

Congrats to the rest of you for your stirling work, and welcome to smileyjo.

Soxwasher · 06/04/2003 09:48

Hi all - I am a new mumsnetter and would love to join you all on the war against the bulge! Have a lot to loose - 4+ stone but you have to start somewhere!

Chinchilla · 06/04/2003 12:45

Janeway - salad and poached figs sound like amazingly restrained options to me! I went out for dh's birthday last night, and had; thai prawns with satay dip, chicken on a sweet potato rosti with some creamy sauce, chocolate pave with ice-cream, cream in my coffee, two pieces of iced-coconut and two chocolate mints. Hmmmm...well, it was worth it, and I loved every mouthful. I nearly licked the plates clean!

Anyway, after me aberration, I am back on track, with no leanings towards any sweets. I had a lovely meal, and don't feel guilty. So there

Chinchilla · 06/04/2003 12:46

Sorry - that should be 'my aberration', not 'me aberration', I'm not Ali G!

Janeway · 06/04/2003 18:03

chinchilla - there was the rissotto for main course as well

JanZ · 07/04/2003 09:07

Now that my birthday's out the way, I'm prepared to start dieting.

Did my "weigh-in" this morning.... ouch! 11 st 6 lb. So, 2 and a half stone to go. Target is to reach 9 stone in the next 3 months (but I'll porbably be happy with 9 and 1/2 stone)

breeze · 07/04/2003 12:31

Snap my diet week is over now, far too much booze on Friday night and then too much on Saturday night as well. I have weighed myself and put back on what I lost in the first week. Not disappoined as it was a good weekend, but back on my doet tomorrow and determined to stick to it.

OP posts:
breeze · 07/04/2003 12:31

My birthday week is over not my diet week. See still recovering from the weekend.

OP posts:
PandaBear · 07/04/2003 13:39

Can I change my weigh in day to Monday? I've got into a diet challenge at work and we weigh Monday's so that we are still focussed over the weekend.
Total weight loss this week - 5lbs!!! and that was with a Chinese takeaway on Friday!! Only another 1 stone to go

breeze · 07/04/2003 16:00

Well done pandabear, that is really good.
