Diet starts tomorrow honestly.....any one want to join me?

Since this year started I have been dieting really half-heartedly. I desperately want to lose the stone that I put on while I was down with my PND. No more excuses I am definately going to start tomorrow. I am sure I could lose the weight easily if I just cut out the things that I pick on between meals. I will have a proper breakfast rather than a handful of biscuits and will not pick on leftovers from DS dinner/lunch. Anyone else fed up of not trying hard enough on their diets and care to join me.

Hi All - well I completely pigged out this weekend ... out to dinner on Friday, Indian Takeaway on Saturday, and a massive Roast Dinner with Apple Pie and Cream to follow on Sunday. Lovely!!!

Today, I am determined to start this dieting lark. I've been good so far, and am in the right frame of mind. Hope you are all doing well and that you enjoyed your weekends (although not in the same way as I did!!)

mum2toby · 31/03/2003 12:46

I was out for dinner on Saturday and had a pizza the size of my torso!

Then I made a cheesecake on Sunday... nuff said!!

I haven't plucked up the courage to weigh myself.

Well done all you that behaved!

Zoe · 31/03/2003 14:25

t's been take-away city here this weekend - we grabbed a quick sheesh kebab tea on Friday as I was working (grilled lamb with salad and pitta - can't be too bad surely??) and then stayed with friends on Saturday who had decided on an Indian takeaway - then we had a Chinese last night! However, I have hit on a reasonably satisfactory wat to deal with it - I only ate half of both. Therefore cutting calories and fat by 2 (I hope). Did a really tough class at the gym this morning and then have done non-stop spring cleaning until now, which must be burning a few calories off...

I've been listening to Jeremy Vine on R2 about diets and it's been really interesting - stuff about how they don't work in the long term and how you have to change your entire outlook on life and devise an eating plan that suits you and an exercise plan which doesn't have to be the gym but could be more walking (shops, nursery etc). Interesting.

Well, I weighed myself this morning, and I am 10 st 12 lbs, which is the heaviest that I have EVER been. I am so disgusted with myself. The diet really started today. I am allowing myself 1600 calories a day, and although I am having 1700 today, it has all been healthy food like fruit, yoghurt, home made low fat curry and boiled rice. So, I feel positively angelic today. After a few weeks, and a few pounds lost, I am intending to cut the calories to 1500, which I find a good amount to lose weight on without going hungry.

Anyway, next weigh in for me is next Monday, so I'll let you all know how I have done then. Good luck everyone.

Angiel · 31/03/2003 19:43

I haven't dared weigh myself again, in case I have put the weight back on that I lost. I had a cream tea today because I had to take dd2 for a hospital appointment, my mum came with me and we just had to stop for a treat on the way home. I am so useless, I have no will power at all. I will be trying much harder tomorrow.

bubbly · 31/03/2003 20:08

Oh dear dinner was lovely we kept ordering one to share and then -oops- another 'to share' coz it was soo yummy. Luckily couldnt drink coz was designated driver for the evening. But had a small whisky to 'wind down'. I wonder at whiat opoint my perceived resolve will turn into real resolve. I think I'm all talk no do. Right that's it No more childrens tea for me.Ever again.

breeze · 31/03/2003 21:22

Its my birthday this week and I have 2 nights out and dinner on my actual birthday, so I will be happy to stay the same this week or even a slight gain. Diet starts properly on Monday. (no seriously)

Breeze - I know it sounds boring, but could you try to be good (ish) on two of the meals, and not have a dessert? Then, you could have everything that you wanted on the other meal. I used to do this all the time when I was a really successful dieter. I would not have a starter, would have a light main meal like chicken and salad, and then the dessert that I wanted. I would also drive so that I had to drink diet coke!

Have a lovely birthday BTW!

breeze · 01/04/2003 07:38

This week I have also got to go to court (suing the garage where I got my car from), and found out I have to have an operation on my wrist. So need a bit of comfort food.

Chinchilla, I am sure I could be good with the meals, but unfortunately my mum has offered to have DS for the weekend, so I know I will be tempted to drink a lot. But knowing that others have done really well will be my inspiration to continue once this naff week is over.

feeling lighter and i dont now need to pick after dinner so the stomach has decreased in size. no bread thats how it did that, i;m sure of it.

next milestone is easter sunday - well good friday friends having a party!!

robyn3 · 02/04/2003 12:58

anyone tried the atkins diet. its the bad breath part that puts me off how bad is it????

SamboM · 02/04/2003 13:34

Hi there, can I join this one? Joined WW 3 weeks ago and have lost 8lbs, 5 in the first week, 1 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd and none this week!

Is there anyone else out there on steriods? I have to take prednisolone for Crohn's disease, I was nearly off it and then 1 wk after joining ww they upped my dose and now it's sooooo hard to lose the weight as you retain water + are ravenously hungry all the time. Any advice from anyone on how to overcome this welcome

I have just over a stone to reach my pre preg weight (dd is 7 months), plus then 2 stone to get to my ideal weight.

PandaBear · 02/04/2003 13:37

SamboM - congratulations on your weight loss so far. Can your doctor not prescribe diuretics to help with the water retention?

SamboM · 02/04/2003 14:59

I could ask, don't know if it works with steriods though. I did ask my doc and he said to cut out salt which I have done. I'm just pleased not to have put any weight on since increasing my dose as usually I do.

Has anyone's partner tried the new men's WW thingy. My dh is always moaning about being overweight (only a bit I think) and I thought about getting it for him

eidsvold · 02/04/2003 15:44

Sambo I am doing weight watchers and my dh simply eats as I do and then watches what he has for lunch ( at work). I cook the weight watchers recipes or dinners pointed for me and he has the same. Perhaps your husband can do a tracker like you do and then that saves you having to buy the program for him. So he could do it by proxy and then weigh himself on your scales.

SamboM · 02/04/2003 15:52

He does pretty much that, only eats salad for lunch and then has the same as me for supper. He has finally started weighing himself too, so knows when he is losing weight. The men's one seems more targeted ie includes beer & things! Though I know you can do it on WW too and anyway he drinks wine mainly. My main thought is that he wouldn't bother with it really as it's a bit of a faff.

eidsvold · 02/04/2003 20:15

I would keep it as it is rather than spending for the other program. You might like to get a little guide - not sure if you have it - eating out guide - has points for a number of eating out situations - fast food, pub food/drinks etc. Very inexpensive but very helpful. Yeh my dh really is not wanting to diet but he in via me - eating a lot more healthily and more concerned about what we are eating.

Sambo there is also a shopping guide which has a lot of points for different foods in the grocery stores - like pastries, ready meals, and so on.

I had an okay week with mother's day and all - lost a pound.

woozle · 02/04/2003 22:49

Hi all,

my first proper week as I only managed to get my baseline weight last week

5 lbs lost following a Carol Vorderman's detox programme (with time off for good behaviour on Mothering Sunday)

Whoop di do!!

IDismyname · 02/04/2003 22:51

Well, I've just passed my original WW goal of losing 21lbs. In a fit of enthusiasm about 6 weeks ago, I upped it to 26lbs... then lost almost nothing! Typical.
I managed to lose half a pound this week ( a pat of butter, I keep telling myself) so just 4 and a half pound to go. Reckon I'll have been at WW for nearly a year to achieve the 26lbs, though.
Good luck to you all, and if anyone wants a recipe for 0 point mushroom curry (my staple), just yell!

Angiel · 02/04/2003 23:13

I weighed myself on Monday and I was really surprised. Since I started my diet a fortnight ago I have lost 1/2 stone. I'm not quite sure how i've done it, but I've just started taking prozac so that may be helping. Hope everyone else is getting on ok.

jasper · 02/04/2003 23:54

Robyn3 I did not find bad breath an issue at all, the diet was VERY effective, but IMO hard to stick to long term. I lost a fair bit of weight (about 22 pounds in 2 or 3 months, can't really remember, stopped when I got pregnant)and was quite impressed with it but it WAS hard for me to stick to. There is little margin for error.

robyn3 · 03/04/2003 09:00

thanx for that jasper. i love cheese and eggs but i think i'd really miss the carbs, i love sandwiches. are you allowed tea with milk or is that restricted too?
