Diet starts tomorrow honestly.....any one want to join me?

Since this year started I have been dieting really half-heartedly. I desperately want to lose the stone that I put on while I was down with my PND. No more excuses I am definately going to start tomorrow. I am sure I could lose the weight easily if I just cut out the things that I pick on between meals. I will have a proper breakfast rather than a handful of biscuits and will not pick on leftovers from DS dinner/lunch. Anyone else fed up of not trying hard enough on their diets and care to join me.

hi would love to join too. Have a weekend on 17th May staying with dh's TINY ex girlfriend and her hub. Desperately need to look like glamorous sex kitten and not like whale mother of screaming toddlers. All the help I can get I need . Probably psychological help needed to. Any ideas?

bubbly · 24/03/2003 11:48

panda bear can I just say that you sound absolutely gorgeous. I too am tall and feel like if I am overweight i just take up too much space in the world. I would just love to be a little less visible from all angles!

Oops still not very good at this poosting thingy. Only joined last week and keep getting in a muddle.Sorry!
Think a sunday pm weigh in sounds good. Do we have to give a starting weight?

breeze · 24/03/2003 12:13

Think people should weigh in once a week on a time that is suitable for them, probably friday am would do for me, but not all that bothered.

I have just spent the last 2 hours walking and delivering my Avon books too AngieL. Fit for nothing now though.

Ok mum2toby, Friday it is or as near as we can manage it! But no fibs though anyone. we are here to help, support and encourage not to criticise!

donnie · 24/03/2003 14:53

hey woozle, what is 'bariatric' surgery or whatever the thing you said your friend had ? is it the stomach stapling operation ? apparently they can be quite dangerous.
How many of you eat breakfast ? because I never do, just not in the habit and haven't been for years except when I was bf ing.But apparently if you eat breakfast you are more likely to lose weight because it stimulates your metabolism, but I can't get it out of my head that breakfast is an indulgence. A Friday weigh in is a good idea but I have'nt got any scales ! and I like wine too much....

susanmt · 24/03/2003 15:05

Is it too late for me to join in too? I'm really very overweight and could do with losing several stone, but a few pounds to start with would be good.
I'm trying to keep away from the snacks and make myself sit down and eat proper meals with the family rather than grazing on unhealthy stuff all day. I've also started going to a weekly aerobics class and although it was tiring I felt exhilarated - the first exercise I had really done since i got pg with dd almost 4 years ago.
I don't actually have scales and weigh myself when we visit my parents every couple of months, maybe I should go and get some.
So I'll join you all on the wagon. We can do it!

breeze · 24/03/2003 15:20

SusanMT, Of course it is not to late, its a shame I can not change the thread to my diet starts now. So far resisting the temptation to cheat. I also echo that we should be totally honest, we all have diet weeks when we stay the same or put on.

Hi Breeze and all, I'd love to join in too as I really need a kick up the bum to get going now. I've lost over 3 stone so far and now weigh 12st 5lb at 5'9". I want to get down to 11st but I'm finding it hard cos I'm now fitting perfectly into a size 14 which was always my goal! However I know I still have weight to lose and that I need to tone up. If we're weighing in on Friday I'd better be very virtuous for the rest of the week

Chinchilla · 24/03/2003 19:25

BK - I'm 5' 3", so my goal weight is between 8 st 6 lbs and 9 st 4 lbs. I think that I look best at the low end, but others have said that I look too thin at that weight! Dh does not agree though, and has promised me an outfit of my choice if I hit 8 st 7 lbs, and stay there for a month. I am obviously not doing it for him, but what he says does tend to make a difference.

Anyway, a morning weigh in is best, as the evening weight can vary, depending on what bulk you have eaten and drunk during the day. Apparently, a wholemeal roll and two cups of coffee can add an extra pound on

I forgot to weigh myself this morning, so will start properly tomorrow. I have been better today than normal though, with much less chocolate consumed. I was going to have some more, but have gone off the idea a bit now, having read all your comments. I REALLY want to shift this 2 stone. Good luck all. Is it OK if we post every day if necessary? I need the support.

woozle · 24/03/2003 20:17

Donnie - bariatric surgery is not quite the same as stomach stapling. It is "no going back surgery" and like any major op carries risks. However, the thinking is that the health implications of being "morbidly obese" (BMI of 40+) outweigh the surgery risks. The surgery involves either a bypass of part of the gastric tract to limit absorption of food or to restrict size of stomach to experience fullness with less food (this is more like stomach stapling).

I've calculated by BMI at around 37 so I need to do something!!

bossykate · 24/03/2003 20:22

thanks for satisfying my vulgar curiosity, chinchilla! i was just reeling with shock as your target weight is 2 stone below mine! i'm 5'10" - and my dh isn't as fussy!

very best of luck!

hermykne · 24/03/2003 20:32

chinchilla i haven't weighed myself in ten years, and i go by clothes feeling comfortable and just feeling ok with my hips. for me its toast and then loveley things you see in sainsburys bakery!! so today i was good and had none of it and hubbie asked for something sweet when i went shopping but i didn't buy anything, so he can supply himself, luckily my baby is only a baby and there are no presses with chocolate bickies.

yogurt is good and i got the "onken" wholemeal stuff at the weekend and a half a tub is filling or more if you need it. put some fruit in it too.
[rp[er dinner and cereal only breakfast.

i went for a cycle today too only 20 minutes but you feel better after it .

its hard really hard not to succumb and say it but once you reach a target within a reasonable timeframe, and easter is a good starting target and then summer for wearing something floatly, we will all feel better for it.

so breeze donnie chincilla antonia 3 snowbird zoe mum2toby panda bear angel bubbly AND especially SUSANMt good luck lets focus on doing more exercise (if we can spare the time) rather than not eating.. weigh day friday am or pm suits me fine?

breeze · 24/03/2003 20:36

And to all those who say you do not have any spare time to exercise, log on to mumsnet 10 minutes later and do those stomach crunches.

And remember to drink plenty of water as this help the weight loss.

Any room for a fat lazy pig? (me)

Janeway · 24/03/2003 21:29

hermykne - also woozle, skara & me!

for me ht 5'6" weight, about 11 1/2 stone target weight, under 10. Only problem is I've no scales so can't do weigh in at home - will have to do a measure in instead if I can't make it into town to a public humiliation machine.

Chinchilla · 24/03/2003 22:13

Because I'm so fed up today, I'm afraid I succumbed, and had two Thorntons continental bars. Really enjoyed them though. Will really try tomorrow. I did do a really long walk today though, if that cancels any of the chocolate out (I live in hope!)

hermykne · 25/03/2003 08:08

sorry janway wozzle and skara.

janeway skip the weigh in just tot up the positive things you did in the week and hopefully the'll outweigh - no pun intended!!! - the negative.

katierocket · 25/03/2003 08:39

hello, room for one more? I'm desperate to lose a stone, have tried quite a few times but failed miserably. Doesn't help that friend of mine has just lost 3 and half stone - going from 12 to 8 and half - she looks gorgeous and slim and it's made me feel even more podgy. Need to buy some scales though.

bubbly · 25/03/2003 09:22

Hi morning all. Went to the gym and got weighed. VERY BAD news weigh 13 and a half stone (should be about 11.5 to 12). More than dh which is always depressing . So started the day on allbran and feel full of resolution. Have decided that every time I want to eat something bad I shall come and bug you lot....
Mum2toby the only worry I have about Friday weigh in is that we might feel Ok to be a bit slack over the weekend and a Monday weigh in might bring on a bit of control on Friday take away nights! But that may be just my lack of Will power.

donnie · 25/03/2003 17:01

I feel inspired by all the mums here so maybe togehter we can DO IT!!!!

Copper · 25/03/2003 17:12

I need to lose about 4 stone. I've lost parts of it before, but get it all back again and more. Useless at dieting.

breeze · 25/03/2003 17:40

I am having a really bad day, but had a pizza for tea but been good for the rest of the day so hopefully it will not count against me.

Hope others are managing to stick to it.

Just checking in to see how everyone's doing! I nobly resisted the half a slice of toast covered in butter which was rejected by my dd this morning and I'm doing ok so far today, but I seem to have miraculously gained 3lb since Sunday (can I really have pigged out enough to do that?!) so I don't feel very positive about Friday's weighin. However Friday weighins are always a nightmare for me - I end up treating myself to the night off and then we end up having a takeaway on a Saturday
