Diet starts tomorrow honestly.....any one want to join me?

Since this year started I have been dieting really half-heartedly. I desperately want to lose the stone that I put on while I was down with my PND. No more excuses I am definately going to start tomorrow. I am sure I could lose the weight easily if I just cut out the things that I pick on between meals. I will have a proper breakfast rather than a handful of biscuits and will not pick on leftovers from DS dinner/lunch. Anyone else fed up of not trying hard enough on their diets and care to join me.

thanks Hermykne Onwards and upwards - er I mean downwards! Eidsvold you're right about the WW food ideas - I bought a pure points cookbook and it has some yummy stuff in it. Plus filling up on veggies and drinking 4/5 pints of water a day makes such a difference to the way you feel as I will remind myself tomorrow morning...

lilibet · 26/03/2003 21:44

How do you work out your BMI? and what is a good/bad one?

Tigger2 · 26/03/2003 21:48

Buy a Brita Water Filter, it makes the water taste so much better, we are on our own supply and it tastes really nice. Another thing, use a smaller plate, like a tea plate, buy George Forman Grill, use garlic in most cooking, as it takes away the need for butter or sauces. Good luck all!

donnie · 26/03/2003 21:52

doh ! had cake and flapjack today after I'd been v.good and had a small healthy lunch. I was at a friend's house and it seemed rude to refuse...doh !

woozle · 26/03/2003 22:05

Lilibet, your body mass index is calcuated by dividing weight in kilogrammes by the square of height in metres(i.e. height times height)

If this is all too complicated try this link

THis also tells you what is good. i.e you're looking for a score of 20-24.

Hope this helps

Janeway · 26/03/2003 22:23

wozle - thanks for the link - dp and I are pleased that we're not as far up the scale as we'de feared.
I'd be interested to know if anyone's target weights but them in the "underweight" category as my idealised weight (when a teenager) would certainly have. Luckily I've become more sensible and realistic since then, and much happier in myself.

eidsvold · 27/03/2003 08:55

Tigger - you are so right - George foreman grills are brilliant - we do all our steaks and fish in the grill!! We also use non stick frypans for those stir fries etc - no added fat.

We also use spices and sauces like soy sauce etc to add that zing to food.

breeze · 27/03/2003 15:49

Well up and till today diet was going well. Had a very sressful day with DS and ended up having a pie for lunch with mashed potatoes, but hopefully I have not undone some of the good work already done this week.

Just done my BMI - I am "plump", bring on the carrot sticks!!

Bozza · 27/03/2003 16:04

Janeway - I decided to aim for a weight towards the low end of my ideal range IYSWIM but actually still within it. That weight is 8st 7 lbs which at my height of 5' 4" gives a BMI of 20.42. Then on those occasions when my weight creeps up (hols, Christmas etc) it will still be within the healthy range.

hermykne · 27/03/2003 18:20

had three pieces of toast today, fruit only lunch and light chicken for dinner, the toast was justified by being up a 5 with dd.

doing plenty of walking as the weather is fabulous, so feeling a bit of toning hapening in my legs.

hope the rest of you are all sticking to it,
keep those bikini, jeans, weddings images all in mind!!!!

eidsvold · 27/03/2003 18:45

breeze - just a bit of encouragement - one pie with mash during the week will not add a significant amount of weight - I would not worry about it too much. If the rest of the week you have been eating healthily and well then it would not matter. Don't be harsh on yourself.

lilibet · 27/03/2003 21:02

Breeze, its what we eat and drink all the time not occasionally which makes us put on weight. Pie and mash occasionally will do you no harm at all, its when you're having meals like that every day that the problems start. Now why cant i put my theory into practice? Must say tho' its not meals with me, its what I eat while getting them ready and the late night cheese sandwich after the bottle of wine! Been so good today tho. How is everyone else?

Skara · 27/03/2003 21:26

Pleased to say I've had a good day at last as I've put my 'I am in control of food, it's not in control of me' hat back on and I feel great Plus I dug all the borders in the front garden once the children were in bed so I'm feeling virtuous! Just to second what everyone else has said Breeze - one pie does not a failed diet make...believe me if it did (or a curry, or a huge bar of choc, or four muffins with butter etc etc etc) I wouldn't have lost anything so far! I've been trying for years to lose weight and always got cross at that whole take it slowly and it'll stay off idea. But it really does work. As does my other top tip - when feeling the urge to eat, think of bikini on holidays and turn on MTV at the same time and see lithe popstar gyrating slenderly and feel lumpy - LOL!!

breeze · 28/03/2003 07:56

Weighed myself today, I weigh 11 stone 13 pounds, so I have managed to get to my first target of under 12 stone. TBH I have not stuck to it 100% so I will try harder. Saying that I did only weigh on Monday as quite pleased

OP posts:
PandaBear · 28/03/2003 08:45

Morning - her's hoping you were all better behaved than I was this week!!! I'm still 12 stone 3, but I'm pleased to have stayed the same as I've eaten like a piggy!!

katierocket · 28/03/2003 18:11

bugger, managed to be quite good all week then blew it today by eating 2 vanilla pastries (2 for price of 1, oh, I thought, I'll get 2 and keep one for DP....1 hour later it was calling to me!), pint of lager and massive pack of crisps.

Still not bought any scales so on the plus side I can't actually see how much weight I've put on/not lost.

Angiel · 28/03/2003 18:23

Well I did really well last week, but this week my resolve has gone. I am not getting on with dh and keep reaching for the comfort food, not as much as usual though. I'm going to try and be good this weekend and then get tough with myself on Monday.

Skara · 28/03/2003 18:56

Quickie update whilst tidying up toys! Have managed to stay at 12st 5lb which is miraculous given the fact that I ate my entire bodyweight in rubbish this week. Aim to lose 2lb by next Friday though

hermykne · 28/03/2003 20:06

NOT A BAD WEEK
DH HAD AN ALLERGY TEST AND HE'S OFF WHITE FLOUR SO THAT MEANS NO MORE WHITE BREAD OR TOAST SO I WONT SUCCUMB TO IT.
BEEN V GOOD, NO SWEET THINGS, HALF A BAR OF TOBLERONE IN THE FRIDGE, ALONE LAST NIGHT AND DIDNT TOUCH IT,

DONT HAVE A SCALES ... HEEEHEEEHEEEE.

LOOKING FORWARD TO SUNDAY FOR A TREAT!

WELL DONE EVERY ONE ELSE

Zoe · 29/03/2003 00:34

Well, no scales, but feel I must have done well as I have had no wine or chocolate since last Saturday,(until tonight, two huge glasses of vino) and two Total Body classes instead of one, so that has to be good. I ate well and wisely in the week too. I might brave the gym scales next week

Well done all!!!

Janeway · 29/03/2003 09:07

well, first week was not bad on balance

+'s - avoided snacking between meals and "nicies" and alcohol - pushed the pram to nursery rather than driving and went out for a good walk most days.
-'s didn't make it to the swimming baths and had a realy oily currey at friends party last night

bubbly · 29/03/2003 19:23

Hi
Been madly busy but made it to the gym a couple of times. Sadly only 1lb off yesterday and probably ruined it last night by eating pizza and quaffing half a bottle of wine.
Out for dinner now and have been practising saying 'just the salad for me please' . Will her resolve hold, will she cave in --- all will be revealed...

Well done everyone else. Share a tip - get spouse to serve food and then wahtever he puts on your plate scrape half back onto his. This way he will never weigh less than you (my current nightmare scenario) and 2 you should be able ot carry on eating the things you like (just a lot less of them) Makes sense on a way coz trouble with diets is that when they are over I just go back to eating how I did before and on goes the weigth.

hey ho got to go.

Have a lovely evening

jac34 · 29/03/2003 20:44

I've been dieting for about 3 weeks now. DH and I are doing it together, which makes it a bit easier. We have cut down on bread, portions of rice/pasta,alcohol and fatty foods. We are also trying to eat 5 pieces fruit/veg a day and 2 litres of water. Dh does all the cooking and is doing some low fat meals for dinner.
I've been really good on the whole, better on the days I'm at work. We don't have a scales, and I'd rather not weigh, as I think I would get put off if I had not lost anything, but my clothes are starting to feel really lose, (almost) hanging on me.
Have not really got time for the gym but I've started walking to work (40 minutes, brisk), three times a week.
I still have loads to lose, but it's great to feel my clothes so loose, and to be able to fit into a couple of things, I have not worn in a while.

robyn3 · 29/03/2003 21:09

its the walking that has done it for me ive been yo-yo dieting for the past year trying to lose a stone that crept on almost without me noticing one day my clothes just didnt seem to fit me anymore. thought i,d stop obsessing over food and start exercising now i dont care how heavy i am its how my clothes feel i have walked almost every day for about a month quite briskly and for about 30-40 mins and also used small dumbells for about 10 mins a day for upper body it has made a massive difference to my body only lost about 3 pounds but it seems like more must be inches and also muscle is heavier than fat my body has changed shape before my eyes i honestly believe that its better to crack the exercise thing first get hooked and then concentrate on what is going in your mouth hope this helps anybody out there!
