Should old tom-ay-toes be forgot and lemon brought to rind - 10/10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

SB, I'm sorry Frenchman was disappoointing. He sounded like fun. Hope the other is better.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 07:39

No, he was fun. We laughed a lot. I was just surprisingly rude given that he was a stranger.

Why are you up so early, Toot? I haven't been to bed yet!

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 09:18

Where are you all? I'm bored

TooTicky · 03/01/2009 09:30

And why are you still up young lady? [stern]

TooTicky · 03/01/2009 09:32

I have to go now. I think you should go to bed. Sleep well xxxxxx

TigerFeet · 03/01/2009 09:38

Go to sleep SB! If your Frenchman can't take a bit of gentle ribbing then perhaps you don't want him to all back? My relationship with dh is largely based around taking the piss... OK in small doses but every now and then I have to remind him to say something nice

TooT I have probably missed you, how is the shaking thing? You know what you need to do [stern]

I think I will try frying off some bacon with m'avocado. Haven't tried that combo. Is there a non-cunting window with avocados as per mangoes? I fear I may have missed the best of it.

Seeded bagel (half of)
Mixed fruit (1 or perhpas even 1.5)

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 09:40

It's ok, I am asleep. Fast asleep.

I had a cunting avocado, I'm afraid. I forgot to do the magic newspaper and a drawer trick.

Have lovely days, veg folk.

TinyWhiteFeather · 03/01/2009 09:41

Perhaps he will like sassy SB....some men do.

Wish me luck, it is a MIL day and you can never tell how it will go...I have my war paint on, just in case.

littlerach · 03/01/2009 10:45

Feather, I have done the skipping thing with dd2 when trying to teach her to skip.

SB, I hope he does call you again.

It is sunny - hurrah! I feel that I can do anyhting when it is sunny.

Raisins
Banana

TooTicky · 03/01/2009 11:06

Yes LR,,isn'tb the sunshine GLORIOUS

TF, it's okay. I am okay

Guadalupe · 03/01/2009 11:50

Frayedknot - I did have my stone therapy thank you and it was the most amazing massage I've had! An hour and a half. I don't know what I thought would happen but I imagined just lying there with the stones on but they massage with them and the oil is hot and it is blissful. Thank you all.

Grape, pear, apple, raspberry, pomegranate, banana, mango and blueberry fruit salad with granola and yoghurt.

I am craving white bread toast with marmite but I am resisting.

stuffitllama · 03/01/2009 12:36

hi all, hope things are better for osba and fran's mum
sb fabulous optimism on a Frenchman's sense of humour
tiny I didn't know you were mou
bit tired
had nice lunch of veggie bruschettas with a sort of cous cous broth, the cou cous came in a bowl with lightly steamed veggies then the broth came in a jug and was poured over.. it was pretty good actually
so
onions but caramelised so very bad I'm sure, red and green peppers, broccoli, corn, beans, three plums, an apple, some pathetic amount of cucumber
I haven't been able to write a list for a while, it's a nice feeling
vibes to all
just made the decision to turn off the generator as we can't afford the diesel
so the next power cut it's candles for us and I'll have to rub the back of the computer A LOT if I want to post

stuffitllama · 03/01/2009 13:16

another really boring fluffy apple ugh am sure they cannot be at all nutritious

dooneygirl · 03/01/2009 15:18

Why yes I am on both of your regular threads. The new goal of my life is to stalk you.

No, I wasn't in public. We tend to only burst out into song in inappropriate public places, not play alien chase.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with soft, boring apples. I sent DH to the store when we were stuck here for almost 2 weeks with snow, and told him to get 4-5 apples. Somehow he read a sack of 20-something into that, and they're all awful.

I said I wasn't going to be here today, and I mean it after this, since I won't be here.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 15:42

Hope MIL day went well, TWF.

Hot stones thing sounds fabulous.

Cutting off the generator sounds a bit primitive. Good luck.

Hooray for my stalker!

No F&V, no exercise BUT I am about to trek about 30 million miles to the library to return a blooming museum pass which we barely even used.

Guadalupe · 03/01/2009 17:01

Mackerel and chickpea/garlic/lemon/parsley salad for lunch. Morrocan fish stew with leftover chickpeas for dinner.

I am intensely irritable. I want a drink more than I can tell you. What is really pissing me off is that I either can't have one one, or I fail in my two weeks without alcohol/liver cleanse resolution, which will in turn make me more aware of the fact that I drink too much if I can't go three effing days.

I know people have real problems. Sorry.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 18:23

Oh Guad, it's hard when you really crave something that you aren't meant to have. I think you can't win. At least until your two weeks are up and you will feel immensly proud and super-healthy.

The link to portion sizes claims that one must eat 1/6 cabbage for it to count. But that is an awful lot of raw cabbage. I just ate half that amount and it was a whole dinner plate pile high. Surely that must be a portion? It wasn't even an enormous cabbage.

Borscht
Cabbage
Carrot
raisin

Feels like 24, not 4

TooTicky · 03/01/2009 18:35

Goodness SB, you will be windy

Oh Guad, I'd stroke you but but fear you'd snap my hand off. When I gave up drinking I did it just like that but I suspect I was a great deal worse than you and I was sort of shocked out of it.

Stuffit, do you get many power cuts? Can you rig up a pedal-powered system? Or a sort of hamster wheel for the children?

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 18:51

I hope not, Toot!

When I stopped drinking, I went cold turkey too. I think the first few days of giving anything up are hard.

Where are all the new veggers? And where's Franny?

TooTicky · 03/01/2009 19:18

Perhaps Franny is just being very resolved. I hope things are okay for her.

littlerach · 03/01/2009 19:20

Evening all.

Have hardly eaten all day.
Think I have IBS? Which is making me anxious which in turn is giving me terrible stomach pains. And nausea.

Any advice dear veggers?

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 19:32

Have you seen a Dr, LR?

My Dad was diagnosed with IBS and had to give up caffiene and alcohol. And other things too. He had to eat a very LOW fibre diet and that helped but he hated it.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 19:33

And obviously, avoid stress

TooTicky · 03/01/2009 19:33

Oh I'm sorry LittleRach, I don't know
Are you stressed generally?

FrannyandZooey · 03/01/2009 19:40

I've been with my sister who was visiting
which has made me a bit sighy as usual
but i think it was ok

I LOLed at the running around for hours being aliens but it actually being 5 or 6 mins

SB has ANOTHER thread? you bitch sb. it is like moldies all over again
(nb this is JOKE)
SB raw veg portions are just dreadful aren't they? I mean a whole bowl of salad. It isn't right. Especially when you only have to eat about 4 peas to have a portion. I don't understand it.

ooOOooh @ hot stones

all other stuff gone out of my head

hello all
