For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

FrannyandZooey · 03/01/2009 19:42

hmm i didn't so much mean to type 'drink problem there', as 'problem regarding drink'
kind of thing

TinyWhiteFeather · 03/01/2009 20:09

MIL....mmmm, lets just say I went for a run when we got back .

I suffered from IBS LittleR, and for me it changed my life, allthough I know not every body agrees with it. Tummy masage with orange oil is relaxing, and some herbal teas. Keep a food diary and narrow down your triggers.

As for the stress. Well among other things the right side of my face goes numb/tingly/itchy instead now!

Big hugs though, and look after yourself as much as you can.

I stopped drinking for a week last year (was quite a heavy drinker) as I was depressed, and haven't touched alcohol for 18 months now. Something just fell into place for me. More energy, lost weight, depression eased a little. It has its up sides Guad, so try and persevere.

Hello Toot, I am still awake!

littlerach · 03/01/2009 20:19

Um, yes went to dr this week and she thinks I have been having panic/anxiety attacks.
And I suffer with bad stomach alongside so thinks it is IBS.
Am quite teary actually.
Hvae got some peppermint capsules for tummy. Wil try tomorrow.
I hardly drink at all now.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 20:21

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 20:24

Oh, LR Ginger is good for nausea, isn't it? Do you need anything gingery? We have a good selection of ginger things here.

I'm all cabbaged out. I can't face any more. Will have veg on pizza tonight, promise.

ps I meant to put a instead of re moldie thing. It was a JOKE also.

TinyWhiteFeather · 03/01/2009 20:27

Extra {{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}} before I sign off LittleR. It might be a huge undertaking at the moment, but you can get control back of your body and life and you know we are all here for you.

SB, I feel your indignation!

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 20:29

FrannyandZooey · 03/01/2009 20:42

ok
not these ones

Tatties · 03/01/2009 20:43

Littlerach, I don't suffer with IBS, but the anxiety - nausea vicious cycle is very familiar to me. I have several things which I use to try to make myself feel better. I'll just make a bit of a list:

Peppermint tea / green tea with mint / spearmint & chamomile tea

Ginger beer

Deep breathing exercises and/or "grounding technique" (say 3 things you see, 3 things you hear, 3 things you feel; 2 things you see, hear, feel; 1 thing you see, hear, feel)

Lavender oil - drop or two on your palm, rub in and breathe

You say you feel teary - I also find a good cry when I am panicky helps - do you have dh there to talk to?

FrannyandZooey · 03/01/2009 20:47

like these

sorry for wittering about beans
sb wanted to know

that grounding thing tatties
it's to do with buddhism living in the moment stuff isn't it?

Tatties · 03/01/2009 21:01

That exercise certainly fits with the living for the moment principle. It is really simple, but it helps. I don't know about anyone else but I spend a LOT of time worrying about what MIGHT happen (often to the detriment of the here and now) and it is NOT good for you

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 21:04

Other breathing/ mindfulness exercises:

Close you eyes
breathe in & count 1
breathe out, count 2
etc
counting on each breath until you get to 20, then count down to 0 the same way.

Sounds silly but is actually quite hard to remember to stop at 20 and is a good way to focus your mind on nothing else. I do it a lot when I feel panicky or when I can't sleep.

Also, imagining a baggage conveyor belt or leaves on a pond and 'drop' each thought on each suitcase/ leaf as it goes by. Don't think about the thought, just put it down. This is useful if you have racing thoughts, apparently.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 21:05

I still don't know the name of the beans!

Tatties · 03/01/2009 21:06

Those sound good SB

TooTicky · 03/01/2009 21:08

Runner beans surely. Are they slightly rough-textured on the outside?

Got to do bedtimes now, hope to get back later.

Love to all

LR, I'm always here, if that is ever of any help.

SuperBunny · 03/01/2009 21:15

I had to do a lot of mindfulness (which is based on Buddist principles) and crisis survival stuff when I, um, lost the plot.

It all seems fairly obvious but I think when you are stressed and anxious, you forget how to do things, like breathe and be calm and not panic. I hated doing it at the time but they did help me more than I cared to admit.

My name is SuperBunny and I do not know what a Runner Bean is.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/01/2009 21:43

OJ
Banana
Veg soup
Pear
Dried fruit
Beans
Avocado

lol at Franny's wittering about beans. They are runner beans. I love them cooked or raw.

I haven't suffered from IBS, but a few family members do and the biggest thing for them is finding the trigger.

I also don't suffer from anxiety attacks, but my dh has in the past. He also has had food issues when he suffered with anxiety and the only way he could solve the attacks was to pin point what was stressing him out and dealing with the cause.

We had friends over this arvo and it was mental with kids running around the place screaming.

I have calmed down with a glass of rose and we watched Rocky Balboa - it were shite.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/01/2009 21:45

Oh, and I went shopping today and I've spent a small fortune on f&v!

Stupid question alert: do grapefruits count? I have bought some for my breakfast.
