For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Good morning

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/01/2009 11:11

Well, you won't be suffering from a UTI with all that cran juice naswm

I'm often called ILTMIMI or MoveIt, but I have to say I have a fondness for Lemur, so Lemur it will be

Christmas tree is coming down tomorrow, it's dropping needles everywhere and generally getting on my tits, so it has to go.

Now off to IL's.............

BBBee · 01/01/2009 11:43

good morning!

I feel good thanks to a rather reserved two glasses of champagne

okay i am going to do a guad style boot camp - but in keeping in tradition it will start tomorrow as i have neew year lunch planned.

me:

  • no alcohol at home (and I NEVER get to go out!)
  • no caffine bought outside the home
  • minimize sugar
  • minimize carbs
  • minimize dairy
  • exercise 3 times a week
  • bed by midnight unless working
  • less tinternet
  • keep up with friends better
  • be more organised
  • be more tidy
  • do my 10/10

umm, looks like i need to actually be someone else. but i am going to try - honest.

I need a personality transplant too, Bee, but I have good intentions.

I forgot about coffee. Hmm.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/01/2009 12:06

OMG, I turn my back for a couple of days, and when I get back, you have not only started a new thread but racked up more than 300 posts on it! How can I keep up?

However, I saw mention of a mango seminar which I absolutely can't miss, so could someone be sure to CAT me when it takes place so I can learn all there is to know about them? I had a mango flavoured chocolate (courtesy of the gorgeous naswm who I see is also here) the other day and I thought of you all and wondered when the mango guru was going to expound on them. (Still not sure who the mango guru is yet...)

Anyway, I am not going well today. Dh and I decided to have a NYD brunch today instead of cooking a healthy midday meal, so we feasted on sausages, bacon, fried eggs, fried potato, toast, spaghetti hoops and baked beans. Tomato sauce in the spag hoops and baked beans though, and some of us had tomato ketchup too! Only other meal planned for today is tea (cakes mainly). So the health drive starts tomorrow.

Happy New Year everyone.

littlerach · 01/01/2009 12:15

DG, that sounds lovely. Drool.

WE are having pasta for lunch. And bread. And cherry pie with custard and/or cream.

No new year health resolutions here

Actually, I think I need a hobby. But I don't know what.

BBBee · 01/01/2009 12:21

guad - i have a caffine issue and giving up is not really an option, but i thought if it was only caffine at home then i wouldn't be tempted by coffee out etc. (which costs a fortune) and will automatically go donw to one or two a day.

dg - nice to see you and lemur if that is what we are going ot call you and everyone.

Guadalupe · 01/01/2009 12:43

I have only recently started drinking coffee again, should give up but I quite enjoy it.

Right, no chocolate

and stop shouting at dcs

This list might get bigger during the day.

This is a two week abstinence, mind, just to see if I feel better.

Guadalupe · 01/01/2009 12:44

We are having asian broth for dinner, with fish and rice noodle. I got Jamie's ministry book for christmas. It's quite good.

Guadalupe · 01/01/2009 12:45

I am craving fruit and we have none. I think detoxing might require having some good food about.

BBBee · 01/01/2009 12:57

yes let's do two weeks and then review.

this is awful but occasionally i get very of this friend of mine who has OCD because her house is always tidy and seh had christmas literally all wrapped up by end of nov.

that is bad isn't it.

satsuma

naswm · 01/01/2009 13:15
  • I didnt know you were on this thread too!!

Okay, I have added two more glasses of cranberry juice to my list. I think that wilkl def keep the UTIs at bay Lemur!!

Feeling particularly ropey atm though (self inflicted I know) so dont really feel like eating much at all atm. (DG your brunch sounded fab! although I think spaghetti hoops are 'the work of the devil' to use one of your phrases!)

TooTickyDoves · 01/01/2009 14:31

I have had a few raisins

Hello to everybody

Oh good, I can call her Lemur

DumbledoresGirl · 01/01/2009 14:52

Naswm, I am new here, rescued here from the Moldie madness. They are lovely people here but I am sure they don't spend as much time as me on the loo in the morning

You do know your 5 glasses of cranberry juice only counts as one don't you? [meanie emoticon]

naswm · 01/01/2009 17:11

explain the cranberry thing DG?

TooTickyDoves · 01/01/2009 17:15

juice can only count as one portion no matter how much you have

OP posts:
TooTickyDoves · 01/01/2009 17:16

Good to see you back DG, I thought you'd run away from us.

OP posts:
naswm · 01/01/2009 17:18

explain why about the juice? Because if I get fruit and liquidise it to juice it is still teh same amount of fruit is it not? (altho admitted this was out of a carton, not home made) but I dont get that....

TooTickyDoves · 01/01/2009 17:21

something to do with the loss of fibre /i think
Better ask Franny to be sure
Or anybody brainier than me.
Anybody then.

OP posts:
naswm · 01/01/2009 17:25

lol

so by the same 'logic' does soup only count as one portion as well?

TinyWhiteFeather · 01/01/2009 17:35

Why do I always open the thread on a saucy bit, what is with the willy willow stripping?

DG and naswm...I cheat regularly when I am not doing well and list all the contents of my soup. And list the juice flavours and not the fact that it was 'juice'. I regularly have to sit at the back of the class.

I am ILL! and fed up about it. Have slept about 7 hrs today and broken a bottle of aftershave and it stinks. Have a stomach bug. Not even a bloody hangover as I don't drink. Bah Bah Bah.

However am feeling a little brighter and more cheerful now.

Haven't eaten anything yet.

Tomato juice and apple juice. Glares defiantly at everybody.

A big warm Happy New Year to all on the thread, and to absent friends and loved ones. And my very best wishes that everyone has their dreams fulfilled and may your days be filled with laughter. xxxxxx

TooTickyDoves · 01/01/2009 17:40

OP posts:
naswm · 01/01/2009 17:46

aww feather

TooTickyDoves · 01/01/2009 17:49

I've missed her! She can be quite elusive, our Feather.
I hope she's feeling better very soon. And I have texted her and fbed her so she should be feeling thoroughly stalked.
