For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

this is a kickin' thread title [grudging]

FrannyandZooey · 18/11/2008 09:30

'blethering'??
shut it you old haddock

FrannyandZooey · 18/11/2008 09:31

anyway what are you doing here
you said you were too busy to breathe
(sorry have not mailed, was blethering)

mangolassi · 18/11/2008 09:45

Do you have room for one more? I've lurked a bit, for a couple of days... would have to join as a very hopeless aspirational f+ver, fully taking into account advice to build up slowly from virtually no f+v ...

I need to lose weight get healthy and am more comfortable with trying to put more good stuff in, rather than take chocolate alcohol not-so-good stuff out of my diet.

Does that even make sense?

GibbonInARibbon · 18/11/2008 09:45

Hello to all hope you are all keeping well. I have missed so much I know but wanted to say I think of you all often and hope you are well. Is the lovely Lully still a 10/10 vet?

FrannyandZooey · 18/11/2008 09:59

ooh, a mango person
come in come in
ignore greeny btw she is just visiting
oh she's gone

hello gibbon!

CharleeInChains · 18/11/2008 10:00

Is this the latest thread?

How the hell did i miss that?

I am back to my healthy eating riegime, after some terrible constipation digestive problems.

I have had a bowl of grapes today so far but had 2 whacking great salads yesterday.

mangolassi · 18/11/2008 10:02

yep, unfortunately my name is the fruitiest thing about me - good intentions, though!

GibbonInARibbon · 18/11/2008 10:05

Hello Franny - last time I was here you were still PG - huge congrats my lovely

FrannyandZooey · 18/11/2008 10:08

erm mango, you do know we have a, erm, phrase we use to describe mangoes on here

erm

i think i will let fmf take over thread welcomer role again

thankyou gibbon, not seen lully but she will hopefully drop in v soon

mangolassi · 18/11/2008 10:10

Oh, right, so my actual f+v intake...

yesterday I lurked and then started counting. It looks better than todays pitiful effort so I'm going to include it:
chickpea salad
grape fruit shake
mixed salad (small) with tofu taco thingies (what do you mean, tofu isn't a vegetable? It's healthy, right?)

today:
cauliflower/ sugar snap pea/ unidentifiable green leaf stir fry (no, I didn't cook it myself)
and promises to eat something healthy for dinner ('tis already 5pm here)

I may need to start this fruit lark at breakfast

mangolassi · 18/11/2008 10:12

oh dear, am i going to have to name change?

Greensleeves · 18/11/2008 11:14

I am not 'just visiting', I am hanging around like a bad smaell

I AM too busy to breathe, I have just been offered the job of my dreams but by virtue of a vomity squitty ds2 I am at home today...and dh is getting back tonight after 2 weeks in Dubai [pathetic female who is not used to running home/kids/job without spouse]

I owe you many many emails

this really is a VERY good thread title

today I have mostly been eating Diet Coke

Greensleeves · 18/11/2008 11:15

mangoes smell of infected piss

FrannyandZooey · 18/11/2008 11:32

No no mangolassi I am just mucking about, you stay as you are, although I may call you lassi instead
and your intake looks quite good actually, you should adjust gradually imo and the stuff you are eating is quite varied - it's when people come in and say "an apple" I think oh dear....
plus tofu does count IMO - it's made from soya beans, isn't it? I used to count soya milk but the other veggers weren't having it...
anyway YES you need to start at breakfast to get your 10
I usually have 4 or 5 portions for breakfast, but then I have an easy kind of lunch usually (sandwich) so i need to

Greeny what job? [excited]
be nice to our new mango person greeny or you will have to sleep in the pit
I didn't do the title, FMF has been fably taking over while I blether about breast pumps

DIET COKE??? get out of my yurt!

FrannyandZooey · 18/11/2008 11:33

oi mango where are you then? we are v multicultural innit

TigerFeet · 18/11/2008 13:58

Franny we have all been drinking lots of Diet Coke.

See what happens when you leave us alone?!?

Tomato Soup
Jammy bit on yogurt

My washing machine is broken. DOes handwashing count as exercise? It's bloody hard work

Thankfully a Nice Man is coming tomorrow to fix it for me.

MamaG · 18/11/2008 14:14

Hello!!!!!!!! hope everybody is ok and feeling very fruity.

onion
red pepper
green beans
sweetcorn
satsuma
banana
apple
raisins

Guadalupe · 18/11/2008 14:18

Hello! Give us a hold of the baby then.

I had a very nice dinner in the end, a teriaki salmon bento box so you get salad/seaweed first then a miso soup then the box with salmon in and sushi and rice and calamari rings and tempura veg. It was lovely but I drank too much.

It is freezing today. Dh is in London and there is no wood visible apart from a trunk of some description. I must chop it.

SuperBunny · 18/11/2008 14:25

MamaG! How's things?

Franny, do you really count tofu? That would help...

Hope Toot's hospital business goes well.

TF, hadhwashing should count. Most definitiely.

Glad Guad had a good night.

I have the option of doings crafts with a movie star tomorrow but I have no idea who she is. DS won't know either.

mou · 18/11/2008 15:02

Both and at causing diet coke controversy in the yurt and hope the yurt elders can forgive me.....shall duly go and lash myself!!

Greensleeves · 18/11/2008 15:02

it's so nice to see the banter and sparkle on here, like Old MN [misty-eyed] [irrational]

franny the job is 'inclusion worker' in the children's centre I work in, looking after two children, one with autism and the other with miltiple learning difficulties and partial sight

I LOVE it [pirouette]

Do raisins count as fruit? I've no intention of eating any, just curious.

TigerFeet · 18/11/2008 15:15

I think they do greeny, raisins I mean.

I was wondering about pickles myself. Do pickles count? Am rather partial to a pickled onion or six.

mou, I've been drinking Diet Evil in the yurt since long before you joined us . As have Pink and Osba, and possibly others.

Guad, I have bento envy. SOunds lush.

Which sleb SB ?

Greensleeves · 18/11/2008 15:19

it didn't used to be a frickin, yurt, no wonder it's so bloody cold in here

I'm sure any residual nutruents have been burnt out of pickled onions by the vinegar

but if we decide they do count, does that mean I can count Monster Munch?

mou · 18/11/2008 15:29

sighs with relief, and gets huge bottle back from behind cupboard...goes dreamy eyed and drifts off to island.
