For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Tons of snow here, had to go into town earlier and everyone had bent heads and it was so dark. Now there are proper drifts and white streets, enough for snow ball fights and sledging. Well, I threw some snowballs but I'm not going sledging with them, I'm cooking roast lamb.

Boco - Thank you for the lovely card, this has been a very nice extended birthday. I hope dd is feeling better?

Guadalupe · 23/11/2008 13:41

It's hard when you're on your own isn't it, Fmv? Dh has worked away a lot of the week since september. We thought it would be done by now but they keep postponing the launch date. Will be christmas before it's back to normal now.

filthymindedvixen · 23/11/2008 13:53

very of snow. My two woke me up at 8 to tell me it had snowed and were getting dresse until I pointed out it was just a dusting. Not even enough to scrabble a snowball together.

Kendall mintcake... I wonder if you can make that. Good comparrison, Pink.

at snow but not sure why because I don't really want any.

FrayedKnot · 23/11/2008 16:14

Snow

We had a dusting and it was all gone by lunchtime. At 12 it poured with rain just as I was tryign to find a sodding pay machine in Sainsbury's car park. It must be the only supermarket carpark in the world where you have to pay and display. You do get a refund but only for £1.50 and not the £2 sodding pounds you had to put in because it wouldn;t accept anything apart from pound coins.

Luckily the sun came out this afternoon so we have walked bracingly.

Guadalupe, DS knows his cousins have proper snow as they live near you, and he is most put out.

SB can you post the tablet recipe? Pleeeease?!

SuperBunny · 23/11/2008 16:25

How annoying about the car park.

Here's the recipe I used. I did half and made it in an 8" square tin.

Tablet

2lbs caster sugar

1/4lb butter

1 cup of whole milk

Tin of condensed milk

Teaspoon vanilla essence

  • Remove all children, pets and clumsy people from the room. They tend not to mix well with vats of boiling sugar.
  • In a heavy based pan (and wearing rubber gloves) slowly melt sugar, milk and butter.
  • Once it comes to the boil add the condensed milk.
  • Slowly bring to the boil again, stirring constantly.
  • Still stirring carefully, boil for 15 minutes or until mixture darkens to a butterscotch colour.
  • To test if mixture has boiled for long enough drop a teaspoon full into a glass of cold water. If it?s ready it will form a ball.
  • Remove from heat and add vanilla essence.
  • Beat until your arm nearly falls off and the mixture has thickened to a very thick custard-like state (approx. 15 mins).
  • Pour into a greased tin and cool.
  • Cut into squares. Store in an airtight container.

D?s Trouble Shooting Tips

If your tablet is grainy, you melted the sugar too quickly. Start again.

If your tablet didn?t set, you didn?t boil it for long enough. Start again.

If your tablet still didn?t set, you didn?t beat it for long enough. Yup. Start again.

Thak you SB for the recipe.
