For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

oh and on vegetable news, I just picked all our carrots before they got frostbitten
they are all about an inch long (some less)
what happened? i must admit i haven't watered them or anything

Guadalupe · 21/11/2008 15:59

This happened to mine last year. Admittedly they were extra short variety for grow bag but still. They were almost inverted.

TooTicky · 21/11/2008 16:05

Guad

Franny, I love the sling and the coat. Could almost get broody for them.
Actually, maybe not. It is quite nice to reach this stage.

Dd2 did sleep, thank goodness.

We have had small carrots too. And almost non-existent swedes.

TooTicky · 21/11/2008 16:14

Franny, if you make it a good, roaring blaze you should be okay.

We have been using the wood burner a bit and dd2 is quite interested. I found her on the windowsill the other day, apparently inspecting a blank piece of paper through a magnifying glass. I asked her what she was doing and she answered in the most casual tone, "Making a fire."
Thank goodness it was a cloudy day.

daisy99divine · 21/11/2008 16:21

Oh Franny, my DS lived in an ellaroo from birth until about 15 months I loved it, and it was so big it used to keep me warm - only sling I liked both in and out of the house iyswim - I feel all nostalgic! Mine was the blue tonal one

For going out I used a Babyrunner a lot - lent by neighbour so not sure of cost - and had a sort of fleece that tied round DS either front or back (with cute matching hat) was wonderful and I used to get so hot I'd had to shed layers- also just put big coat over whole lot ... is there are way to post photos so only show to chosen veggers not whole world? would then happily show you what I mean...

but the coat looks fab...

daisy99divine · 21/11/2008 16:22

trying to describe the fleece for DS it was a bit like a straight jacket, had seams and tied his arms in - but that sounds dubiuos and it wasn't at all

feeling all broody now...

TooTicky · 21/11/2008 17:23

You can show photos just to your MN mates, which you nominate. In fact I think you're one of mine so if you click on my profile you can see my pics. Haven't got the recent ones on yet though.

filthymindedvixen · 21/11/2008 17:43

I just chased and caught a thief in town!

pinkspottywellies · 21/11/2008 18:01

Oh my god FMV what happened?

littlerach · 21/11/2008 18:32

FMV - what????

Fran, our carrots got to about half a cm and that was it.

Have been organsing nativity play for preschool - it is complicated with three year olds.

It might snow, you know?

filthymindedvixen · 21/11/2008 19:41

We were in a cafe with the boys for a treat when a woman I knew screamed ''stop her, she's got my cards''.
I ran to the door and chased the girl, the woman caught me up and I caught the girl, who luckily stopped rather than lamping me!
the girl started saying ''get off me I'm pregnant''. I held the girl while the victim laid into her verbally, took her pic on phone and rang police.
A man from inside the cafe came out so I got him to hold the girl while I went back in to check on my bag - and the kids!

Police coming to get statement off me soon, I'm terrified this girl will try and say I hurt her or something. (I was very gentle, in fact I tried to make her and the victim come back in the cafe out of the cold and get a drink and be civilised!)
Bloody police and security took ages - at least 10 minutes! If this woman had struggled, she'd have got away tbh.

Just heard from the victim (who I know from school) that the thief was involved in loads of stuff.

FMV ..I'm sure it won;t come to that - if she is a known criminal and was caught with the cards on her I don;t suppose anyone will be sympathetic if she complains about how she was apprehended!

hello everyone!

Lots of exercise
Not so good on the f&v but it's Friday and I had 10 minutes to eat lunch and too tired to make much effort for supper.

I do have some fruit of the cocoa bean stashed somehwere though

pinkspottywellies · 21/11/2008 20:18

Pass the fruit FK I seem to have run out

SmilesLikeNoOther · 21/11/2008 20:26

Wow, a busy thread. Not been awake long as I crashed out!

fmv, I hope everyone is OK.

Sling talk brings back distant memories.

Brain turned to mush.

Good Night for now..x

SuperBunny · 21/11/2008 20:52

What a shocking afternoon, FMF. And what a hero you are!

Your night sounds uncomfortable Toot - hope you can all sleep in the bed tonight and that no-one is unwell. LOL @ your little Firestarter. I have to send my cards soon otherewise they won;t arrive in time for xmas so I have to be organised. I am not always.

Very pretty sling, Franny.

Weird assorted beets in noodles at lunch. Nothing else

TooTicky · 21/11/2008 22:02

Of course, you have further to send them. I am always late with mine - sometimes fail altogether - but procrastinate slightly foer environmentla reasons.

TooTicky · 21/11/2008 22:02

Just imagine that in English if you can

SuperBunny · 21/11/2008 23:50

I do think about the environmental issues but it's really the only communication I have with some people. I always send family a card and pics of DS. Have wittled my list down to immediate family (since I won't see them), grandmother and a couple of aunts.

TooTicky · 22/11/2008 11:50

I do understand SB. I do try to send newsy cards to my distant people. It's the neighbous/school/playgroup friends cards that drive me mad - half onl;y do it because it's expected I'm sure.

I had an idea for school - haven't suggested it though - each child could make a Christmas picture as a card to everybody in the school and they could be displayed in the hall. Possibly donation to charity too.

FrannyandZooey · 22/11/2008 14:33

TooT talking swedish again I see

FmF wow! did you go all limp and shaky afterwards?

apple, grapes, melon, raisins, whole raw pepper filled with bulgar wheat (ds1 speciality), avocado

filthymindedvixen · 22/11/2008 14:39

I did Franny! I had too much wine last night because I was still shakey.
But I am very pissed off becuse I chased her and I hung on to her and dh came out so I made him hold her while I checked on the children (the victim is a friend from school and her 2 children were still inside, so isorted them out and made sure they were ok and found an acquaintance to keep an eye on them before going back outside to help and keep eye out for security.) And victim keeps thanking dh for his help! And not me!!!

SuperBunny · 22/11/2008 14:40

That's a good idea, Toot. Where is everybody today?

I have child-free today yet still woke up at 7:30. I wanted to have a lie-in. Am off out for breakfast soon - not sure if I should be good and have a plate of fruit or the waffle with strawberries. Given that I have managed to lose 3lb this week, I should probably get the fruit but the waffle will be warm and comforting and it's cold out. Might go to xmas bazaar with friend afterwards.

TooTicky · 22/11/2008 16:52

Wow Fmv, how did I miss your heroic deed??!!

TooTicky · 22/11/2008 16:52

SB, I hope you had both

SuperBunny · 22/11/2008 17:00

Oh, I xposted with FMF and Franny this morning so my 'where is everybody' seemed quite rude. Sorry.

Hope everyone is out having fun. I have a huuuuge to do list.

Strawberries (on the waffle)
