I hate it, I am stuck in a rut of feeling stressed, smoking more, which is making me feel even worse.
I dont go to the gym anymore, mostly because i feel too rough, used to go 4 times a week.

It smells, its killing me, its too expensive.

God I hope i can do it this time, I really do want to NEVER smoke again

Oooh, sooo glad I found this thread - I lost it for a while. .

You are all doing so brilliantly, I'm very impressed. And I wish I'd had you all when I stopped.

I'm stopping by to remind you all that it can be done. And to say, I suddenly realised this week (in the bathroom at work, weirdly), that while I am still addicted to smoking, I finally do not actually see myself as a smoker. I don't feel even the slightest desire to aign myself with the smokers and I get irritated at smoke breaks at the office! .

Tilly - good luck tonight. The nice thing about no smoking rules is that while your smoker friends are getting up to go outside in the freezing cold, you can stay where you are and slug back a bit of extra red wine in comfort!

Moss and Bluesky, keep strong! What are you plans this weekend - Moss hopefully you're feeling 100% again now?

Oh and Blue - you could change back and come wave at us?

Blinglovin · 07/11/2008 14:31

"align myself with smokers" even. Sigh.

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/11/2008 14:36

Ah - thanks Bling Glad to hear you finally had your epiphany

You're right about not wanting to go outside. I'm going to wear something short sleeved and hand my coat in when I get to the restaurant so if I am tempted to go outside (when v. v, drunk), I'll be soooo cold, I'll come back in promptly. That's the plan anyway

Has Blue name changed again then ? Come back Blue - don't desert us

Blinglovin · 07/11/2008 14:37

When you're really really drunk...

order a tequila! Far better for you than smoking. And WAAAAAAY more fun.

blueskyandsunshine · 07/11/2008 15:03

hello glad and bling ..interesting about who one aligns oneself with.. congrats for moving into the light.. I am still a bit envious of smokers myself but WHY? it's ridiculous

Tilly's tally vv good.. by the way do you know after 30 days you start growing new cillia in your lungs to clean up the rubbish (apparently) so your new cillia are five days old

mine and mossy's are just having their braxton's hickses

no no I have always been bluey on here
but I will change names and come back to you

anyhoo I am still off the evil but I still struggle sometimes -- this week I have had to have five minute "smoking breaks" but without the cigarette (ie lying down breathing very deeply indeed) ..it works!

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/11/2008 15:18

Ooh yes - I have fag free smoking breaks at well usually sitting outside in the garden for 5 minutes and drinking a big glass of water slowly. I visualise the water washing away all the crap from my lungs. I know that's not actually how it works, but it makes me feel better. I swear drinking loads more water has helped with the weight loss as well.

Bling (that's sick not envy) at Tequila. After my 21st b'day (a long long time ago)... NEVER again

mosschops30 · 09/11/2008 15:36

hi everyone wow we're all doing so well huge pat on the back to everyone on this thread

how was your night tilly? Hope you had an amazing time and that the people you went out with supported you. I am amazed at the suppport ive had from smokers and non smokers, also suprised at how many smokers want to give up.

I totally feel like a non smoker now, hate the smell, look at smokers with disgust lol . I had a fleeting craving last night during my night shift and almost couldnt put my finger on it, its been that long, was just like an odd feeling then it went.

Feel loads better, skin looks better, teeth look fabulous and Im going back to the gym properly this week

Good luck to all this week and the dramas we may face

blueskyandsunshine · 09/11/2008 17:16

Hi Moss and all -- congrats on you making that psychological leap .. I am sort of there but not quite.

Skin is definitely better, as if those spots were a stage one goes through.

Good luck all and especially Tilly with dress drama and such a short time to go!

mosschops30 · 10/11/2008 16:29

Ooh today was hard though, am having a txt argument with my mother, I am soooo angry but am managing with my inhalator. Havent used it for about 2 weeks, but its a good support when I need it.

Hope everyone else doing ok

Well done everyone. Don't know if you saw the sad thread on here earlier today about a Mumsnetter's friend who has lung cancer at 40 .

Makes me glad I gave up.

Now I'm off alcohol as well (got to lose some weight and I was drinking too much anyway). 8 days without a drink! I feel decidedly odd, but in a good way .

Lets keep at it!

Maybe this thread will inspire any naughty lurkers who want to give up if we keep it bumped?

blueskyandsunshine · 11/11/2008 02:49

Morning all, having a rotten old time in rl but can only think that having a cigarette would add to my problems rather than solve them. That's a first for me, on my earlier attempts I would have been looking for any excuse to start again. Well done Moss. I hope everything is ok with your Mum now. Hello eek, I didn't see that thread. How terrible and said. God that's young. I have read that three or four carrots a day helps reduce the chances but apparently it has to be carrots and not beta carotene supplements.

mosschops30 · 13/11/2008 10:15

Hi everyone hows it going. Things for me just seem to be getting worse, work is horrible ended up in tears yesterday, still not talking to my mum , but still managing to be off the fags Like you bluesky I think that if I did have one it would make things worse rather than better.

Am still looking after myself better which is adding to the feeling of all round goodness, using my expensive products, brushing and flossing twice daily, going to the gym regularly and enjoying the odd starbucks . Plus I saw the smoking cessation woman in work yesterday just passing, havent seen her for years, she was so pleased at how well I was doing and said if I needed to see her the door was always open which i thought was lovely she agreed that now I have got over the smoking and drinking hurdle it should be a good road this time as thats always been my downfall.

Hope everyone else is good and that youre all coping well

I'm just popping in to say au revoir and wish you clever giver-uppers all the very best amd every strong willpower vibe I can send over the interweb.

And every good wish to Tilly (where is she?) for the big day on the 29th.

Am taking a break from Mumsnet, at least til Christmas. But knowing me I'll probably be back after that!

Sorry you're having a hard time in rl Mossy and Bluesky. But of course you are quite right, having a cig would not make anything better, quite the reverse, it would just add to your stress and make your feel utterly guilty and shite and miserable. Well done for keeping off them, and don't forget to keep reminding yourselves how magnificent, empowered and sweet-smelling you are nowadays .

Just noticed the start date of this thread and Mossy you've been off them for a whole month tomorrow. Fantastic .

bossykate · 13/11/2008 10:56

good luck!

it is two and a half years for me now since quitting and it's great, i'm so pleased i don't smoke any more. it took loads of attempts for me to finally kick the habit.

well done for persevering!

mosschops30 · 13/11/2008 11:08

OMG eekamouse youre right!!! I cant believe it its given me another boost!

Sorry youre going but hope to see you back here, hopefully you will stay off the evil weed and come back and join us.

Have a wonderful Xmas

Tillyscoutsmum · 14/11/2008 14:31

Hi all

Thanks eek - sorry you're off for a break. Have a lovely Xmas and hope to see you back soon

Mossy - a whole month. Well bloody done to you. Sorry to hear things are crappy at the moment though

Well done to you too blue

I feel as though I have it cracked now. I just don't really think about cigs at all and I just feel so much better for not smoking. I think its helping cos DP is so enthusiastic this time (whereas before he has always wanted to smoke and I've had to be the "strong" one and have inevitably given in)

mosschops30 · 21/11/2008 11:53

Hi everyone, hows it going? I too am kinda over it, although I say that with a wry smile because I am going out tonight with some friends I havent seen for a while, some smoke, some dont. But I know that i want to, I cant imagine going to town and not smoking with a few voddys

I dont feel like it will set me back, and as its a rare night out I think its not going to become habit, plus I have had such a dreadful few weeks, I just want to unwind, get drunk, smoke, fall out of taxi, vomit all night and feel sorry for myself tomorrow
