I hate it, I am stuck in a rut of feeling stressed, smoking more, which is making me feel even worse.
I dont go to the gym anymore, mostly because i feel too rough, used to go 4 times a week.

It smells, its killing me, its too expensive.

God I hope i can do it this time, I really do want to NEVER smoke again

Great to have you back bluesky and even greater that youre still doing so well. (arent we all )

Forget about the stressful situation, and remember that smoking WILL NOT help you to focus or concentrate, it will do the opposite.
Is there anything else you really enjoy that you could have instead (cake, coffee, cocacola etc). For me its starbucks, whenever I think about smoking I spend that £3 on a nice latte instead

We are all doing so well lets keep it up

Hello all - had a few too many glasses of fizz last night but didn't fancy a cig at all (was with non smokers though)

Welcome back bluesky - you had us worried for a while Glad you're still doing well.

Date is 29th November. Today I can say - I GET MARRIED THIS MONTH

eekamoose · 01/11/2008 23:23

Oh WELL done Mosschops.

Am an infrequent poster on Mnet (too much going on in RL for me) but I have been following this thread and posting every now and then.

Although its been 41 days fag free for me now, I still get quite strong cravings!

I'm only saying this as support to fellow quitters who hope that they will be over their cravings by this stage. Not necessarily ...

BUT

I do find the cravings are much less annoying and more importantly much less frequent so all in all that's positive.

And I very much hope the same goes for the rest of you, Tilly, Bluey anyone else on this luvverly cleansing journey of ours ...

blueskyandsunshine · 02/11/2008 03:37

thanks eek! -- what you said reminds me of my grandad

I asked him once if he missed smoking .. he'd given up about 20 years before

know what he said? "Only after meals"

CoteDAzur · 02/11/2008 07:26

Hi everyone. Just popping in to offer sympathies and support.

I quit at the beginning of the year (10 months already, yay!) and can honestly say that it felt like I had never smoked after the first month or so. Hang in there.

What helped me was (temporarily) quitting coffee and alcohol as well as cigarettes, because the association between smoking and drinking coffee & wine was too strong.

Good luck!

gladbag · 02/11/2008 17:12

Hello all. Fab news that everyone is still hanging in there. Me too. Two weeks yesterday of no smoking. And it is sort-of getting easier in that I think about it less each day, and the cravings aren't too bad, but I'd still love a rolly. I'm horribly pessimistic that I'll always feel like that, and I'll just have to learn to live with it. Ho hum.

Off out to see fireworks tonight. Will eat extra hotdogs to vanquish cravings

Tillyscoutsmum · 02/11/2008 20:24

Well done everyone...

We've done just over 4 weeks now. Went to my mum's for lunch today and the smell of cigs there was just hideous . Really noticeable now we've stopped

Another 2lbs off at WW this week as well . I'm barely thinking about cigs at the moment. The freezing cold weather is helping as well. The thought of going outside in this is really not tempting at the moment.

mosschops30 · 03/11/2008 13:22

well done everyone who's still fag free (eekamouse, tilly, bluesky, gladbag and anyone else ive forgoteen )

I have been so ill this weekend with the sickness bug that I wouldnt have been able to smoke even if I wanted too
but on the bright side I am almost craving free, no moments of weakness at the moment either

Tilly, I know what you mean about the smell I almost snarl at smokers walking past me the smell is so bad

blueskyandsunshine · 03/11/2008 16:55

Hi am still doing the thang but today was clinging by fingernails

in fact I had to go home because I saw a cigarette stand and thought if I stay in this shopping centre a minute longer I will succumb

and bbrreeaatthhee

tillyscout what is this stopping smoking and losing weight? I'm putting on again now. You are breaking all known rules. (but good show!)

sorry you are ill mossy hope you feel better now.. you've probably lost weight too

harrumph

Tillyscoutsmum · 03/11/2008 19:49

Aw bluesky sorry to hear you had a tough day. Its weird isn't it how the urge can be overwhelming and just appear out of nowhere ? You did well to resist though. We are all doing brilliantly well (even if I do say so myself )

I always put weight on when I stop and I knew I couldn't afford to this time, so I joined weight watchers the day before I stopped. In the 4 weeks since stopping, I've lost 9.5 lbs . I think its actually helped me because planning the meals, shopping for them, counting points and all the associated "faff" involved with a diet has actually given me something to do and think about, other than smoking.

Mossy - sorry to hear you're feeling crap . Hope you're feeling better soon

eekamoose · 03/11/2008 22:53

Oh that sounds grim Mossy. Poor thing. I am one of the famous emetophobes cluttering up Mumsnet and vomiting is the biggest stress I can imagine. So I was proud of myself when DS got out of bed last night saying he felt sick, and he did look horribly pale bless him, I didn't even have that automatic "I want a cigarette" thought. I just didn't think about it. Can't quite believe it, actually.

What a good idea re. joining WW Tilly in advance of giving up. And I know you have a BIG EVENT coming up, so extra incentive for you not to put on weight. Or even lose some! Well done.

I am a good 20lb overweight and infact used that as an excuse for many years to NOT give up smoking ("I can't give up, I'll just get even fatter").

My new plan to help me shed weight is to give up alcohol for 40 days (seeing as how I've now been without fags for 40 days and I haven't been too terrible to live with, I don't think) so we'll see how that goes. Day 2 so far .

Hope everyone else is managing to stay off the evil weed. It really has got to be worth it, hasn't it?

Good luck everybody.
xx eek

45 days fag free

littleforest · 03/11/2008 23:38

Hi mosschops reading your report made me think back to when i decided to give up, i had smoked for 15yrs never wanted to quit and enjoyed smoking, my middle child was quite poorly with regular chest infections ( i smoked during pregnancy) on sitting at the hospital with him for another bad dose a senior doc asked if anybpdy in the household smoked which i said yes, they suggested i gave up to which i replied i know and promptly got told " don't sit there and say i know when your son is ill and can't breathe" i felt like a naughty school girl in the heads office.
something made me think about that and i decided to quit.
I had help from a very good nurse at my doc's surgery, patches, then will power but talking with her on a weekly basis helped, also nicorette helped by sending a pack to help me get through the weeks and save money which i did, then i treated myself to things i couldn't afford before.
This will be 4yrs ago in january i don't miss it a bit and i wish you all the luck with giving up because you have to want to do it in the first place, be strong.

blueskyandsunshine · 04/11/2008 08:07

littleforest thanks for sharing that, thanks so much, sounds like it was a very big deal for you. I hope your middle child is alright and the chest infections went?
This is the most supportive thread!
Tilly, today is better ..have been drinking champagne all morning (true ) and not felt the urge so at least now I know that I WILL have bad days and I CAN survive them
Eek I like your tally up!

mosschops30 · 04/11/2008 19:21

littleforest thanks for that fab motivational post youve done so well!

lol at bluesky drinking champagne all day to stave off cravings (Im sure you didnt mean it like that (or maybe you did) its just how I read it )
I have lost 6lbs but thats from vomiting nothing to do with being good like Tilly!

Bluesky have you got an inhalator? I find that for those moments like the one you had it cant be beaten for the craving. It hits the spot and suddenly you dont need to smoke.

Havent used my inhalator since last Sunday now and have been fag free for 3 weeks

OP posts:
blueskyandsunshine · 04/11/2008 19:51

I didn't drink champagne all day! i went to a rather extraordinary event which involved drinking at a very unusual time of day

I therefore partook one simply had to

and despite that I didn't get any urges to smoke

eek sorry I was wanky on your other thread. it's because that's what I've done.. stopped drinking wine and beer and only drink sparkling wine on special occasions. (which is not very often but did happen today!)

blueskyandsunshine · 04/11/2008 19:53

Moss 6lb from being ill sounds like a great deal. I hope you are better now? that sounds very serious to me -- 6lb is nearly half a stone!

no, no inhalator, perhaps I should but I live abroad so no idea where to get

congrats on the fag-free-ness.

I really really need this thread!

Tillyscoutsmum · 04/11/2008 21:28

Moss - agree 6lbs is loads Hope you're starting to get over it a bit now ...?

Had a few really strong cravings today (PMT, we have my dsd who is lovely but really high maintenance and had my first dress fitting which was quite stressful). I do feel sooo much better for not smoking though

mosschops30 · 05/11/2008 12:52

6lbs is great and nothing compared to the amount of bodily fluids I lost on sunday

bleusky, where are you? would you like me to get another one from the doctor and post you one out? Im seeing my GP next week if thats any good.

Oh tilly well done for not giving in to the cravings, your dress fitting should have re-affirmed how wonderful you will look at a fag free bride (from someone on her own wedding video with a fag )

OP posts:
blueskyandsunshine · 05/11/2008 17:34

good work Tilly

did you look beautiful in your dress ? why so stressful?

Moss that is a terribly kind offer! I won't take you up on it right now but it does sound brilliant. Thanks so much. Are they on the NHS?

Am going to google actually

Tillyscoutsmum · 05/11/2008 18:52

Hi blue - it was stressful because I wasn't happy with the fit (I think it needs taking in) but the lady in the shop was pretty dismissive about it and thought it was fine . I'm really crap at being assertive in those situations so I just let it be but I've been looking at the photos I took and it definitely isn't right.

Have got my second fitting next week so will be taking my very scary assertive friend to make sure I get it how I want

Sorry - all sounds a bit Bridezilla and I appreciate it doesn't really matter in the scheme of things but it seems daft to pay a, frankly, daft amount of money for something that doesn't fit properly

FFS !! It makes me want a fag just thinking about it

blueskyandsunshine · 06/11/2008 00:22

Tilly -- you know if it's right, good idea to take friend as you don't need the hassle. Of course the shop don't want to alter it, it's more work and more expense for them. Stick to your guns ..they should be very afraid of a quitter only two weeks before she gets married ..the potential for scary tantrum id enormous! ps you don't look like the bridezilla type (checked your profile hopng for a dress preview!)

mosschops30 · 06/11/2008 14:11

tilly absolutely stick to your guns, dont forget you will be looking at that dress for years and years to come and you dont want to be always thinking 'I wish it had fitted better'.

Be a Bridezilla, milk it

Ok bluesky but let me know before next thursday if you change your mind. They are free on the NHS (because Im in Wales so no charges) but you can buy at Boots.com also, HTH

I had my teeth professionally sandblasted today, they had gone green in a short space of time which i thought was from smoking thankfully it was discolouring from a mouthwash I'd used and they now look beautiful and pearly white, and Im keeping them that way

OP posts:
gladbag · 07/11/2008 12:34

mosschops - was thinking about my teeth this morning, and how once they've been cleaned again at the dentist they should stay brighter. I can add it to my mental list of 'reasons why I would be insane to start smoking again'.It's got about 50 things on it now.

tilly - agree with others, definitely get the dress fitted exactly as you want it. I'm so in awe of you, going through the stress of organising a wedding, loosing weight and giving up smoking. Truely awesome.

Well, I'm still sticking in there. Still using the inhaler occasionally, esp after evening meal, but otherwise doing ok. Had a long chat with an old friend on the phone last night. She was one of my last 'smoking' buddies. I hadn't spoken to her for a few weeks, and it turns out she has given up as well! She's about 2 weeks ahead of me. Felt really encouraged by it.

I do now really need to tackle the weight thing. I have put on nearly 1/2 a stone in the last 3 weeks , and the trousers I put on this morning wouldn't do up. I think I need to get out of the 'I'm so sad and miserable that I deserve to eat what I like' mood that I'm in, and move into a 'I'm so fab without fags that I deserve to be fit and thin and gorgeous'. Just not sure how to go about it

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/11/2008 14:20

Hi all. Well tonight it a big test for me. I'm out for drinks/food with friends (some of whom are smokers). I must stay strong though.

Gladbag - not sure how you go about it, but it definitely does need the change in attitude (i.e no more "woe is me, how crap is my life now I can't smoke ?" and much more "yippee, I'm free from the dreaded weed and I'm really HAPPY about it". I don't know about you, but I'm a bit of an 'all or nothing' person. I can't just watch what I eat a bit - I have to go on a full on "diet", otherwise I don't stick to it. Can really recommend weight watchers. Lost another 2lb this week, so total is 11.5 lb since stopping

Thanks for all comments re: dress. I need to grow a pair before next Saturday and be more assertive.

Mossy - I have a dentist phobia (haven't been for far longer than I would ever admit to ) but I would love to get my teeth properly cleaned. Maybe I'll bite the bullet (or wait until I am hopefully pg and can get it for free [tight arse emoticon] )

I think I might do an eek style tally up ...

Tillyscoutsmum · 07/11/2008 14:22

35 days fag free
525 fags not smoked
£157.50 saved (or about £320 if include dp)
