For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Fantastic title

Jolly good. Right - no slacking week.

I have forced myself to eat a handful of grapes and a very small orange. In fact it might be a clementine or somethign. Any it was small and orange and I ate it even though I didn't feel like it.

So woohoo I have eaten fruit.

I'm ending out in a bit into the effffing ffffreezing day to chase children around a field, so I expect that'll lead to some more food of some kind. I shall bear 10/10 in mind.

Hello to all

fullmoonfiend · 06/10/2008 09:14

Ds2 is off with a tummy ache today so I can't go to allotment as planned.(and therefore get excercise) And it may lead to me snuggling up and watching a dvd and eating popcorn with him later.

OP posts:
S1ur · 06/10/2008 09:17

oh poor ds. still snuggling sounds good.

You need one of those big bowls of popcorn and dried fruit so you can make necklaces to munch on.

poshtottie · 06/10/2008 09:35

This thread always reminds me to eat more fruit. Often buy loads then it never gets eaten.

Have just bought Jason Vale's juice book and am going to give it a go.

Just need to give up the caffeine!

fullmoonfiend · 06/10/2008 10:03

hi Posh, welcome to our world! expect crap withdrawal symptoms if you give up caffeine cold turkey (apparently...)
some of us on here (well, me...) don't always manage 10/10 but it does you prompt you to think about what you are eating and just eat a bit more fruit and veg.

i should be trying to get myself motivated

i think the title is funny

TigerFeet · 06/10/2008 10:13

Fab title

I take it we have had Caulifornication at some point?

My pc conked out on me last night whilst I was mid drool over cheese and pumpkins and onions

Two peanut butter sandwiches thus far

Must do better

fullmoonfiend · 06/10/2008 10:17

I'm not sure we ever did caulifonicate, as it were. Cauli is a very useful veg in terms of thread titles though

Morning.

I have a seminar in a couple of hours in which I have to present something from the popular media and say why it is such an outrageous story.

I was going to do 'Britain's really disgusting foods' which was on BBC3 last wk but have just noticed it says 'directed reading'. Grr.

So have 2 hours to come up with something

Do you think it is acceptable to do 'Star' magazine? They had an article about VB and how she lost 7lb in one week etc etc but then went on to write about how she did it. I think that's fairly outrageous given the demographic of people who prob read Star.

Can I get away with it?

am on a mission to be more healthy this week.

one banana so far but have enormous bowl of sprouting salad etc etc for my lunch and am making crunchy slaw with fennel / red cabbage / radish / carrots etc with healthy dressing and polenta coated chicken breast strips for dinner.

I have found 2 free day passes to a gym in town too, so whilst I am still having to pay for DD to be at nursery i am going to make use of some free time.

fullmoonfiend · 06/10/2008 10:34

i think it is more outrageous to equate victoria becham with healthy eating tbh. to want to lose 7lb inb a week when you are that thin is not helthy!

Love the thread title! Please may I join in the fruit and veg chat?

fullmoonfiend · 06/10/2008 10:48

fruit and veg talk you say. Ah yes, see, we could talk about fruit and veg but sadly, it's the staff's day off....

my wisdom teeth are making another dash for freedom. Wish they'd make their mind up.

Hello NBNC.

TigerFeet · 06/10/2008 10:50

mmm OsBa sounds very good and very nutritious

Am off to a meeting shortly then back here to my desk to eat chopped up mango - I really need to be more creative.

VB story would be a good one to rip to shreds comment upon I reckon. What about Jamie Oliver going up to Rotherham to teach them all to cook?

Hello NBNC and welcome

Can we caulifornicate next time them?

OsmosisBanana · 06/10/2008 10:57

yeah i think I'm going to do the VB one, it is part of a 'critical reading' seminar so will be easy.

Slightly shaming to admit to reading a) Star Mag b) about VB.

Ah well, will redeem myself by bringing an article from YoghurtWeavers Weekly next time.

NotBigNotClever · 06/10/2008 10:57

Thanks for the welcome. I work from home and since the change in routine which happened with the start of term (younger child now in preschool 5 mornings per week) am struggling with motivation. In theory, everything should now be easier (have been muddling along for past year working v. odd hours), but am instead spending too much time faffing and seem to be now eating about six meals a day. Have also harvested various nice things from veg garden (pumpkins and butternut squash) and so far done nothing with them. Am slack, slack, slack.

OsmosisBanana · 06/10/2008 10:58

I think it has to be an article TF. I also suspect most people will have thought of that.

fullmoonfiend · 06/10/2008 10:59

NBNC, luckily pumpkins and squashes last for ages and ages. Did you grow them tyourself? Really? None of mine came up this year

OP posts:
OsmosisBanana · 06/10/2008 11:01

oooh. you missed the pumpkin appreciation society last night NBNC!

type pumpkin soup into bbc.co.uk/food sorry can't be arsed to link and it will give you Valentine W's pumpkin soup he made last week. I made it on Saturday, v delicious and ingredients you would prob have lurking around. If you don't have any sherry (which is on the list) i don't think it needs it particularly. V easy although a little time consuming, you can easily cut out a couple of the stages though.

TF also posted a nice recipe on here last night.

NotBigNotClever · 06/10/2008 11:02

Heh, I didn't actually plant any pumpkins: they grew out of last year's homemade compost. Not much I actually planted made it past the slugs! (Well, apart from the salad that I planted next to the pond which was guarded by some v. large frogs).

NotBigNotClever · 06/10/2008 11:04

Aha, thanks v. much for that OsBa! I've only tried roasting it with nutmeg and paprika so far. This went down well with dd (10), but ds (3) thought it was "scusting".

OsmosisBanana · 06/10/2008 11:08

lol, DD (2) has just started saying 'scusting'. Mostly at her own nappies which she then runs sideways crab like with to the 'bim'.

Maybe I need to tone down my reactions to her little nappy gifts... might scar her for life!

OsmosisBanana · 06/10/2008 11:09

pumpkin scones with cheese good too

NotBigNotClever · 06/10/2008 11:18

Well I think we may have gone overboard on praising ds for his productions in the loo - coz at 3.8 he is still calling everyone in to admire them.
