For anyone who wants a boost to their general health (and to talk bobbins with a load of fruity nutters). The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh hello FK

AnnaVissi · 03/10/2008 21:36

Hallo Everyone

(its Papillon)

Wishing you all possibilities in your limes and lemonades from your lemons

FrayedKnot · 03/10/2008 21:55

I ahve a marrow in my veg box which is about a foot and a half long

What on earth shall I do with it?

Hi Pap, why the name change?

TooTicky · 03/10/2008 21:58

Marrow recipes...

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 22:00

throw it away.

accidentally 'forget' it's there until it's mouldy?

or the more foolhardy traditional route

stuffit.

cut it into slices, stuff the centre of the slices with fried bacon, chestnuts, onions and breadcrumbs whizzed up a bit. maybe some mushrooms too. serve with other veg as part of a roast.

But i digress.

throw it away.

Guadalupe · 03/10/2008 22:36

You could make a Dr Who vegetable character like we've done today. It's the country show tomorrow and they have to do a task. Dd has done the vegetable man and ds1 has made a bad taste cake. It is red and has chilli powder in and there will be red chillis perched on white icing with a bad joke written on. It Has Been Quite Trying.

I need to go to bed early to recover.

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 22:42

that sounds horrid Guad. Get thee to bed. take wine.

pinkspottywellies · 04/10/2008 09:24

My MIL told me to do stuffed marrow with the one she gave me and made it sound thoroughly unappetising so it's still sat in my kitchen! But my friend came round on Thursday and said 'ooooh yum stuffed marrow! My favourite!' and it sounded much nicer! She said sausage meat, packet of stuffing, egg. Mix up and stuff into peeled, cored, slices of marrow and bake at about 180 for 20 mins. Could top with cheese. Serve with boiled potatoes, veg and loads of gravy. Think I'm going to try it.

Lully sorry to hear of your worries. Like others have said, he's still your little boy and the same as before. If he is diagnosed it might make sense of certain things (that are already there or that come up in the future) and allow you to deal better with then.

Hope TooT's having a great time and that it's nice and wet for the mud but not too cold! Doctor Who veg sounds amazing Guad!!

Haven't had any fruit or veg yet but I Am Going To Have 10 Today. and I will exercise. (and make quadruple chocolate loaf cake cause I have some sour cream left over.)

fullmoonfiend · 04/10/2008 10:26

Paps! Hello gorgeous one! x

TooT, nowt wrong with rainbow stripes per se, but my boss at work is a bad (or good?) example of when Middle Aged Women Stay Too Hippyfied so I am wary of having too many rainbow things in my 'everyday' wardrobe IYSWIM.
(I often wear my rainbow long socks under work clothes, loving the fact that externally I look conservative yet unde the surface I am channeliing sparkly vibes

OsmosisBanana · 04/10/2008 10:38

morning all. nasty boring weather here today. Nothing to do. A friend is supposed to be coming round, but this is the same friend who didn't turn up to my 3 course S E Asian feast a couple of months ago so am not holding my breath.

lucky i've got so much uni work eh? That'll be fun....

sorry. I'll start again.

Morning all! Chocolate log?? How do you make that? sounds just what I need.

All out of lemon drizzle eh PSW?

fullmoonfiend · 04/10/2008 10:49

it is freaking cold here. We were going to have a day on the boat but is the sort of weather where there is no pleasure from being outside at all |Dark oppresive skies and a mean, lazy wind. Rain forecast.
Boys are playing at a friends, dh gone to auto jumble and I can't dseem to get motivated to do anything. Suposed to have long-lost friend coming for tea so ought to bake something.
I NEED SUNSHINE!

pinkspottywellies · 04/10/2008 12:31

I've been shopping and bought lots of veg. I've posted the chocolate cake recipe before - it's a Nigella from her Feast book. (I knew a facebooker would out me re the lemon drizzle!)

Must go and put shopping away. Does that count as exercise? Have had a pear and a peach fruitini so far, will go and eat whole avocado for lunch to bump up total

OsmosisBanana · 04/10/2008 12:57

putting shopping away def exercise all that bending n stretching n lifting heavy celeriac.

I am making pumpkin soup like wot that guy Valentine in 'what to eat now' made. I am going to put the soup back in the pumpkin and bake it too.

[Smug]

quite a lot of effort to go to just for myself but I am cheating on my 'food diary'.

We are supposed to do it 3 days in a row but I keep forgetting to weigh everything so i am recording the dishes I remember to do it for and hopefully it will make 3 days worth.

'Did you really have lasagne for breakfast on Wednesday Os-Ba?'

'Yes, much better than cornflakes Miss'

My errant friend is actually coming round. Who'd a thunk it? She wants to get drunk, which is excellent news as that is exactly what I want to do.

berolina · 04/10/2008 14:58

Afternoon all.

Toot

Lully love FMF is wise. He is always your beautiful boy, and if there is 'something' there, a disgnosis can mean the tools to help him blossom and get the most out of his life. But if he is not struggling in himself - it doesn'tsound like he is - you don't have to pursue it, at least not right this minute. I'm so sorry dh s being so unhelpful That classic male thing of clamming up and blocking off

Have a lovely time with your friend, FMF. Tomorrow we are going to visit fellow parents from ds1's Lovely New Kindergarten. Am all excited as I would love us to become friends.

Went shoe shopping today and oh my goodness, have come back 200 euros poorer with lovely black boots for myself, that fit and are comfortable and look nice, and winter boots for ds1. Mine were the more expensive I am not at all used to spending money on myself, especially not for Nice Things. But I could really really really do with them.
First the boys and I went to the duckpond and enjoyed the ducks and the flaming autumn leaves, then we did lots of bus riding to the shoe shop and bought a few things at the English shop, and ds1 was utterly delightful.

FrayedKnot · 04/10/2008 19:17

Avocado
Cherry toms
2 satsumas
Stew with carrots & marrow
Brocolli
A peach

Have spent a lot of time on sofa today

Stuck head outside for about 5 mins to empty bins and that was enough

Thank you for the marrow ideas. Tomorrow we are having sausages and I will stuff marrow to go with, I think.

FrayedKnot · 04/10/2008 20:48

Now I know you are all watching Strictly / X factor

FrayedKnot · 04/10/2008 20:49

Well not you, Bero, or UR, or possibly OB

S1ur · 04/10/2008 22:49

Evening.

I had a yummy veg stuffed kebab thing at our local pagan excuse for a lot of drumming and fire starting. Which added to salad for lunch I might just have managed 6. I think boot camp sounds god!

Bero - don't feel bad about boots ever, they will see you well for a long time and are a very good idea when it is this sodding cold.

pinkspottywellies · 04/10/2008 23:20

Tomato soup, pear/banana (1), oj, carrots. spinach. Oh dear. Only 6. I made a pledge this morning and I failed. [bad vegger]

I'll go to bed and have a better day tomorrow. Going swimming at 8 then to the farm park to feed some horses/donkeys/goats [bleurgh] I hate the slobbering beasts but don't want dd to be scared so I grin and bear it.

Papillon · 05/10/2008 08:09

Hey, have cranked up my sprout house in the last few weeks, have been sprouting up marrowfat peas, blue peas and lentils. Really like just walking past, lifting the lid and helping myself to a handful.

Its Grapefruit season here in NZ so have been having afew of them a week too... especially like the tree ripened ones, I cut them up and eat them like an orange.

Sent the link about Marrow to my mum, she often has courgettes that grow on and pretty much never deviates from the same marrow, onion and tomato. So hopefully that will inspire her... although she is getting mroe and more stubborn!

My cousin just had an 8lb baby boy, few weeks early.. at that size just as well eh!
Changed my name to have some non Paps time as I fancy being anon from time to time

OsmosisBanana · 05/10/2008 10:03

ugh. hangover. i've not managed to keep down more than 4 mouthfuls of water so far so f&v not looking good

no wait, i had 3 grapes.

Guadalupe · 05/10/2008 11:40

Blimey, OB, how much did you drink? I usually want a whole cooked breakfast when I am hungover. No bacon here though. Operation starvation is going fairly well. I have completely stopped craving sugar in less than a week and obviously I am not actually starving just eating a lot less. I feel better.

Toot - hope you are not too washed out. I have been swilling endless bowls out of our conservatory floor. Bloody nuisance, we really need to take one of the walls down, I can't be bothered to wade in water all winter.

FMV - I have my dress on today. Its very cosy.

Pineappple.

pinkspottywellies · 05/10/2008 12:30

Sounds good Guad. How did you get through the first bit? Willpower?

OsBa hope you feel a bit better

DD overslept this morning so we had to rush to swimming. I only had time to grab some bread and honey to eat in the car and a banana for after swimming, so only 1 so far - oh and some oj swigged from the carton! Having stuffed marro this evening so should manage a good few veg portions including parsnips from the garden [proud]

OsmosisBanana · 05/10/2008 12:54

yes, am on the mend. I thought it was all hangover but actually was a combo of hangover, savage period pains and a dodgy bottom (which i always get when I'm on - weird huh?)

have rememdied the pains now am going to attempt a piece of toast.

I didn't actually drink that much, but i had only had pumpkin soup for lunch so..... actually it was a fair amount. one bottle of cava and 3 vodkas. Yes ok, that is a lot. But it was over 8 hours.

3 grapes
and a banana

quite an accomplishment i can tell you

OsmosisBanana · 05/10/2008 12:56

I wonder if TooT has been frozen into the shape of a mud monster.

Pap - are you a returning fruity one?
