For anyone who wants a boost to their general health (and to talk bobbins with a load of fruity nutters). The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

last university that is.

gibbers to self whilst gently rocking.

TooTicky · 03/10/2008 13:25

I needa wee too. I am only a short walk from the bathroom but it is icy in there.

TooTicky · 03/10/2008 13:29

Severe weather warning?

Lullabyloo · 03/10/2008 16:10

Goodness Toot that sounds ummmmmmm chilly.
I am constantly freezing these days,my hands are numb.
Have you got wet suits?

I went to see Boy George last night & he was utterly fabulous & his support act & backing singers too.
Everyone was up & dancing & I got to hold his hand

really needed a break as the last few weeks have been grim & I've been in a total state.Ds had an assessment at nursery & it has been suggested that he may have Aspergers.Feel like I've been bulldozed & dh not prepared to discuss it at all.

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 17:28

Oh Lully........

My best friend's nephew has Aspergers (as does her partner coincidentally enough) he is so lovely. But hard work. He has it quite badly I believe.

At the risk of sounding blase about something that hasn't affected me or my family, I think it can be one of those conditions that they are v quick to diagnose these days especially in boys when years ago it might have gone unnoticed or undiagnosed IYSWIM.

I believe it's called over medicalisation or summat.

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 17:34

Lully
Have you had concerns about his development? What prompted the assessment?

This sounds like quite a typical male reaction to shock/stress...(denial and defensiveness.)

Lullabyloo · 03/10/2008 18:01

Ummm...yes have been struggling tbh
but lately he has developed some verbal tics, ocd behaviour & has become most obsessive about certain things.

He is super intelligent, adult drawn,no real interest in other children, fine motor skills not great etc
But...he is outgoing,supremely confident,sleeps well,eats well,not worried about change or strange environments/situations...so I dunno

I want to do what's best for him but labelling him at 4 years old is breaking me.

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 18:20

I know what you mean.
Some children are just 'different'/quirky/marching to a different tune. Doesn't mean they need a diagnosis.
Many 4-yr-old boys have major obessesions (which they grow out of)
Many boys have fine motor control problems

At the end of the day, if you are worried, it is sometimes helpful for you to seek outside advice/opnions, especially if there are aspects of his behaviour which you are struggling with.

For example, when ds1 was dignosed as dyslexic, it didn't solve anything, but it helped me understand certain things about him which if I am honest had frustrated/irritated me.

Whatever happens, he is still your beautiful little boy, and all the things that you love about him will be unaffected.

Guadalupe · 03/10/2008 19:29

Well, lots of only children are more interested in adults aren't they, and ds1 had dreadful fine motor skills, the school were shocked that he couldn't really hold a pencil. I just thought he wasn't that bothered about drawing. He draws very well now.

There has been a lot going on for him too at home, no? I wouldn't panic right now tbh. Like OB says, institutions are often quick to label in some cases and he's very young. I would acknowledge their concerns but not take them to heart too much. Time will tell, and if he does turn out to be somewhere on the 'spectrum', then countless children are to some degree and he's still your boy and you had no worries. Try not to worry too much, easier said than done I know.

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 19:44

hello lovey Guad, I've been thinking about you today (wearing festy dress )

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 20:01

that sounded quite saucy FMV. Do you often think of Guad wearing a festy dress?

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 20:27

lol, well she's very gorgeous...no, I meant I was wearing the festy dress i bought when I met her. She bought one too!

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 20:30

OB, you must know what a festy dress it - it is the garment you buy at a festival which seems like the perfect thing to buy at the time, but doesn't always successfully make the transition to RL...

Our festy dresses were ace though. very cheap and cheerful, and though a teeny bit 'ethnic', mainstream enough to wear on the school run without feeling like the token wierdo hippy mum.

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 20:39

I do indeed.

I have a very tired pair of UV space tribe trousers kicking around somewhere sadly I wore them A LOT.

prob wouldn't go over my ankles now.

casserole didn't work out so well. perfectly nice n all but not quite as I'd planned. Annoying.

Have been listening to Russell Brand talking to Noel Gallagher on R2 on iPlayer in bed the last few nights. Now everything I type sounds Essex as it passes out of my mind. Or sumfink.

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 20:50

Hah! That at least smacks of former coolness. I have things with rainbow stripes on!! And patchwork And tribal designs on tye dye.....

Guadalupe · 03/10/2008 20:52

Lol, FMV, I put that very dress in a drawer today and thought of you. I do love it. It is a little bit like a curtain though isn't it?

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 20:54

the word curtain did pass my friend's lips when she saw it....
But is very warm and cheering.

Guadalupe · 03/10/2008 21:19

Ha, yes it is that. I might wear it tomorrow as the forcast is for gloom and rain.

Sorry, Toot. Maybe it will be, um, romantic.

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 21:21

ah. I saw a lot of 'festival dresses' when I was preggers in 2006.

Those drop waisted, elsticated band, cross over front and then hanky style skirt in 'funky' ethnic patterns.

I was sad at the time that I couldn't buy one as was too large.

I feel better about it now.

I was sober and everything.

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 21:23

i want to see pictures!

TooTicky · 03/10/2008 21:27

Are rainbow stripes bad then? They are my only real foray into the world of colour.

TooTicky · 03/10/2008 21:28

Thank you Guad. Rain might be better than utter cold though, maybe....

TooTicky · 03/10/2008 21:31

Oh no Lully, poor you!!! I echo everything that all these lovely wise people have said.
I did a lot of wondering about dd1 and aspergers at one point. I decided to leave it though. I don't believe you have to pursue it if you don't want to.

FrayedKnot · 03/10/2008 21:32

'Lo

I have a blocked up doze

Lully I'm so sorry to hear you have been having such a difficult time.

TooTicky · 03/10/2008 21:32

I am making ginger cake for tomorrow. I think I will add a heartening amount of ginger.

I think I will miss hot drinks the most
