For anyone who wants a boost to their general health (and to talk bobbins with a load of fruity nutters). The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

MN is a strange place atm, non? I keep finding myself lurking and not posting much. I'm not eating much froot or vedge or doing much exercise either. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Toot lovey have you been to the quack doctor yet? You could be imaginging far worse than the reality.

OB your student days sound wonderful... I rather suspect I would be a better student now that I was at 18. I would give a shit for a start, and not be expending so much energy on getting drunk/laid/high [gimmer].

Love the new title - new thread new start perhaps

OsmosisBanana · 02/10/2008 15:09

yy, also loving the new title.

They have diddled with the timetable. I can't do any of the changes they have made. Will have to leave one of my seminars 30 mins early to get DD. Here's hoping it's the most boring seminar of the 3 modules

MamaG · 02/10/2008 15:24

I can't leave anyway, I appear to be chained to the central yurtpole

I will make a BIG effort with F&V and count going up the stairs as my exercise

ooh I almost did a F&V flounce! Hurrah.

I LOVE the new title. Think we should move on how, am BORED of this one.

womblingalong · 02/10/2008 15:27

No! No one is allowed to leave for good, maybe take a break, but not leave!!

sorry guys, have no time for MN prperly atm.so hpe all are well.

Happy b'day wishes for last week Franny and Toot

pinkspottywellies · 02/10/2008 19:12

SB what did we do? Why aren't you posting any more [bereft]

My chips were lovely and I had mushy peas too. I had a friend over for lunch today so had to share my avocado Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom re green tomato chutney? I have lots of green tomatoes and have been gardening today (actually chucking lots of stuff in the bin! But that counts as gardening I think .

I like the new title

pinkspottywellies · 02/10/2008 19:15

I was worried when I saw MamaG's list of reasons to resign, cause that would mean I and about 80percent of the veggers would have to resign too I'm glad you chained her to the yurtpole convinced her to stay TooT (Oh I just wrote TotO!)

fullmoonfiend · 02/10/2008 19:17

pink, I hate green tmato chutney but I have around 50 green tomatoes and no greeenhouse. They are dotted around random window sills in optimism...it's a pig, isn't it?
I was so looking forward to making loads of tomato sauce to see us through the next couple of months.

pinkspottywellies · 02/10/2008 19:28

Oh dear moony I wasn't that bothered about the green tomatoes. I won't eat the chutney but can palm it off on others! Thought it might be quite fun to make Maybe even use for xmas presents [cheapskate]

FrayedKnot · 02/10/2008 20:34

I have same re green toms. We have a big picture window at work and have been taking them in there to ripen.

They are turning slowly.

Are all these people having breaks actually ever going to come back?

Not that everyone here isn;t great company but I miss people.

OB lol at 6 hours work being more than sum total last time round....I fear I did about 2 hours myself, and that was just before my finals.

TooT? Whats witht eh mud?

TooTicky · 02/10/2008 21:43

Oh no SB, come back!!!!!!

Right, this weekend we are going down to Devon and doing a barefoot swamp walk. Then swimming in the river. Then building shelters. Then cooking over a fire. Then sleeping in said shelters. In October fgs!
I am very much Not Thinking about the possible overnight temperature.
It Will All Be Good Fun [determined]

OB, if we weren't off doing mad things I would have invited you over. We do have countryside though. Does that scare you?

TooTicky · 02/10/2008 21:43

Pink, I feel your avocado-sharing pain.

FrayedKnot · 02/10/2008 21:51

Have you gone mad, TooT?

pinkspottywellies · 02/10/2008 21:55

TooT that sounds fab! Don't worry about the avocado. I had a whole one on Tues, half yesterday, shared half today and have 3 left Got a value bag.

Have a great weekend family TooT

FrayedKnot · 02/10/2008 22:00

I never share avocados

TooTicky · 02/10/2008 22:04

Mad, yes, I rather think so. But I couldn't say no. And I think that if only the cold isn't too awful, the whole thing will be splendid. But I'm not as robust as I used to be.

SuperBunny · 03/10/2008 05:19

Corn Porn just for you veggers

Guadalupe · 03/10/2008 08:20

Franny - look at all these doubters and leavers, they are all drifting off without your beacon of mangoes. When are you coming back?

Horrible grey day here. I have the heating on for the first time.

Porridge with blueberries and raspberries.

S1ur · 03/10/2008 08:30

Good morning my lovelies!

I apologise for cryptic leaving note. I was having a odd tough time. But I am happy now and eating again. So I'm back. Again.

Anyhoooo.

actually not much f&v so far, but give me time - I have big plans involving avocados and basil for lunch. Well, maybe just moderately sized plans.

No time to stop and scan and find out how y'all are, will check back later, hope everybody is well and still here .

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 08:39

Toot - that sounds.................interesting?
........................wholesome?

no, it does sound fun. Quite good fun. Very good fun if it was August

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 11:18

Hello wholesome ones, and fakers.

I think if I was less of a lush I would actually be very healthy, still, that ain't gonna happen so I'll happily lurk around the quite healthy marker.

Just had global food resources lecture, that is the one this semester that I Really Want To Like. It was good. Am planning essay titles in my head involving the struggle of water supply being stolen by enormous agro-biz companies in the Sierra Nevada leaving the little farmer suffering from desertification.

'Getting ahead of yourself OB' I hear you mutter. A strange noise to my ears.

I bet we don't have to do an essay now I've got all over excited, probably some sort of presentation instead.

I made a salad yesterday which I normally have for lunch every day and I gave it to DH with a jacket spud n tuna as nowt else left. It had sprouting radish seeds / alfalfa / aduki beans in it and/..... horrors.... he liked it. Now I shall have to share.

Am going to have to put avocados on the shopping list. Have avocado envy.

I think that mud thing sounds fun! But I also think i would prefer to do it from a distance, like watch through a window. TooT, you are actually insane.

I am going to tend my own mud patch this w/e assuming the weather stays nice. I might do a bonfire.

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 12:12

TooT - I don't wish to pee on your strawberries, as it were, but you do know there is a severe weather warning for south west this weekend ?
Take PLENTY of warm dry clothes, honey!

OB, I can never quite belive how healthy I am, given how unhealthy my lifestyle is IYSWIM.

Today I have had a pear, an apple and some fruit cake

And choclate cake. Is people's birthday at work.
Lentil soup for lunch.

Fawk knows what's for dinner.

fullmoonfiend · 03/10/2008 12:13

I'l;l do a new thread at the weekend

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 13:17

we are having pork, apple and cider casserole with braised red cabbage.

I love red cabbage, although the way I braise i suspect is more akin to pickling! MMMmmm vinegar.

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 13:18

top marks to FMV for most amount of punctuation marks squeezed into a 3 letter word

OsmosisBanana · 03/10/2008 13:20

I need a wee. I don't know where the toilets are in the library. Suspect this university frowns on peeing in bushes as it is Duchy of Cornwall land and my wee has yet to pass Soil Assoc Organic certification.

Not like my last one. Pee where you like, only not in the toilets. They're 'orrible.

Am insane with fridayness.
