This is what I'm talking about

And there are podcasts for your mp3 player to help.

Anyone feel like a bit of mutual motivation?

cyteen · 27/09/2008 19:40

Hi all, haven't read all thread but just wanted to put myself in for this once I have passed my 6 week postnatal check in a couple of weeks' time

I've got a place on a 10k run next June, which I'll be doing to raise money for my brother's charity, so that's what I'm working towards (well, that and looking good naked of course ).

funnypeculiar · 27/09/2008 20:18

hello all
Did my third run of week 2 this morning - ran on grass again, it defn is harder work (or it may be something to do with having drunk half a bottle of wine the night before

Dh wants me to go to his fancy running shop tomorrow to get some proper running shoes...

BlessThisMess · 27/09/2008 23:33

Welcome cyteen. Very impressed at you getting going so soon after birth! I was always so exhausted after broken nights that I never would have done it at that stage.

Now, you all have to know that I'M SCARED! I'm on Week 5 so have done 2 x 8 mins twice this week, and tomorrow I have to do 20 MINS NON-STOP!! Oh my gosh, I can't imagine it. I'm going to my runner friend's house at 9.30am because I thought that on my own I would probably chicken out! Wish me luck, and send me good running vibes at 9.30am please!!

I have to do it .... two weeks tomorrow is my 5K run.

BlessThisMess · 28/09/2008 12:34

I DID IT!! Even more than that, I did 25 mins! It felt damn tough, but it helped that my watch battery has run out and I was relying on my friend's timing. I had a feeling she was taking me for longer, but I didn't mind and was really pleased at the end!! Wow, I might even just be able to manage to run a whole 5K in two weeks!!

funnypeculiar · 28/09/2008 18:33

wow, well done blessthismess - that's fab!! I think my watch battery would have to run out pretty substantially for me to run for 20mins How do you feel?

BlessThisMess · 28/09/2008 21:33

Well, my knees feel a bit dodgy, and I'm definitely more tired (and have been all day) than I usually am after a run. Just wondering how I'll feel tomorrow!!

wendylanguage · 28/09/2008 21:41

Hoping I can join in! I started running mid August and at first I could only manage less than a minute running and 2 mins walking. Now I'm up to 25 minutes running straight - it's fab! I have the running bug. I've only managed to get out twice this week though - I'm finding it hard with the darker nights coming to get out after kids gone to bed.
Keep going everyone! I'm so enjoying it, and never thought I'd manage it.

kiwibella · 28/09/2008 22:04

WELL DONE BTM!!!! Good on you for running such a HUGE distance. You are nearly there . That is so inspirational... maybe I can do it one day too .

FP... running on grass is meant to be gentler. I'm sure that your running will be much smoother with new shoes too.

I forced myself out this morning after being out for the last two evenings and definitely felt that last wine hitting back at me. I made it though... that was my second run of week 2... I'll give it another go before moving on. I would love to be able to get out regularly and think I would make more progress if I could.

Hi to the newbies and happy running ... hope you are feeling better twinksprite... have you managed to get out again GK?

BBBee · 28/09/2008 22:19

hi

are you sll going out on set days or just tryiong for three random days a week?

BlessThisMess · 29/09/2008 09:09

Oh boy, I'm stiff and achey this morning!

I never thought I'd be able to do this. Only 3 weeks ago I was still at the run 2 min walk 2 min stage.

Hi WendyL - welcome.

BBBee - I do 3 random days! Usually because I can only run early in the morning most days (because of DH's schedule) and if I don't manage to get up in time, I have to rearrange!

LaTourEiffel · 29/09/2008 20:53

Hi all, been following from a distance and have finally managed (I think) to get through a week one run and feel like I've got energy left at the end, so ready to move onto week 2 , I've done week one a couple of times already though so its about time!

I was with friends at the weekend and borrowed some shorts instead of wearing my long trousers and wore my regular big long sleeve top and found I managed it without sweating my bits off - far more comfortable so may have to invest in some shorts now.

I'm still trying to run on Tues / Fri / Sun but it keeps getting re-organised.

BTM - you're doing really well, feeling very motivated by your efforts and results so keep up the good work! Maybe you could lengthen your warm down period to avoid the acheyness a bit - I ended up miles from base this weekend as didn't know the area so well being away from home, and the extra 20 minutes I did at the end seem to have helped quite a lot.

wendylanguage · 29/09/2008 21:39

Hi all, didn't manage to get out again today, my DD vomiting everywhere all day and DS tired and grumpy with a cold or something like that ... it was dark by the time I had my hundredth shower of the day to wash off the sick ... may try and get my mum round tomorrow so I can get out ... I'll be knocked back loads by now, i should think!
You lot are doing really well! You are inspiring me to keep going despite having had a week off more or less!
keep it up!

kiwibella · 29/09/2008 22:35

I go randomly also - although I would like to make this more of a priority.

Well done Eiffel! I agree that the further you walk back helps your suffering later.

Darkness seems to be falling earlier and earlier and it is going to give me another excuse for avoidance... I went out as soon as dh walked in tonight. I did set my alarm half an hour earlier this morning but hit snooze when it went off . Going to have a look at week 3 to see whether I will give it a go next time. I feel like I am managing 90seconds running.

BlessThisMess · 30/09/2008 19:26

How's everybody doing?

I thought I might go out for a run today but still feeling a tiny twinge or two in my knees after my 25-minuter, so thought it best left till tomorrow. Well, it's as good an excuse as any!

twinksprite · 30/09/2008 20:51

well done 25mins is ace, i am trying but nowhere near that yet. i need to get an mp3 player!!!

giddykipper · 01/10/2008 08:13

You're all doing really well, I haven't been out in over a week . I feel all fat and lazy.

OP posts:
BlessThisMess · 01/10/2008 11:52

I am about to go for a run. I don't want to. I absolutely don't want to. Feel tired and lazy. But I must.

BlessThisMess · 01/10/2008 12:55

Phew, that was hard, hard work! But I did Week 6 Run 1.

kiwibella · 01/10/2008 13:56

good on you btm!!! You are doing amazingly well.

Ran week 3 last night... it took everything to run for three mins then I managed to stop the podcast. You need such discipline to run with a stopwatch... all I wanted to do was stop!!!! But I made it home... rest today... try again tomorrow.

giddykipper · 01/10/2008 17:16

Oh well done kiwi.

I must must must go out tonight, week 2 again and hopefully I won't have forgotten how to run. I've just made a monstrous apple crumble though, it will take my willpower not to scoff it after tea. Perhaps that's my incentive - I can have crumble after run.

I must go out, otherwise I really will have wasted all the effort I have already put in.

LaTourEiffel · 01/10/2008 20:25

Evening all! Just come back from run one of week 2 and whilst quite tired I'm super pleased with myself! It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be, not as hard as the first run I did that's for sure! I was so chuffed with myself at the end that I even skipped and bounced a bit !

Here's hoping that Friday goes to plan and I get out again and keep up the program.

Well done everyone - BTM, really impressed with how much you've achieved and I know you've got this run ahead of you to aim for - but don't end up hating it will you? Am still feeling the inspiration - we're all doing great just to get out!

BlessThisMess · 01/10/2008 22:55

Giddy, did you go?

And was the apple crumble lovely afterwards?
