This is what I'm talking about

And there are podcasts for your mp3 player to help.

Anyone feel like a bit of mutual motivation?

I was amazed to find that, though I had time to go for a run yesterday, it was TOO HOT!!!

It was nice at 9am this morning, though, and I did Week 4 Run 3. On to Week 5 prob. on Tuesday morning!!

Ripeberry · 21/09/2008 19:40

Would love to do something like a 5K but there is no way i could run it as i get bad shin splints.
I can walk fast 6km an hour which would be almost someone jogging.
Do you HAVE to run?

funnypeculiar · 21/09/2008 19:41

hello everyone - just checking in as I've had a hideous week so haven't made it out for my second run this week. Will count this week coming as week 2 mark 2
Well done to everyone who's still making it out.

kiwibella · 21/09/2008 20:30

jeepers blessthismess - well done!!! How are you finding it? I'm scared about moving on to week 2

giddykipper · 21/09/2008 20:33

I've felt so rubbish at the end of my last 2 runs I don't want to go out again

OP posts:
gemmiegoatlegs · 21/09/2008 20:34

is it too late to start? There was a big 10k run where I live today and I really fancy that for next year. I have shoes, am reasonably unfit and have very little time to get out.
On the plus side, we have just moved to the kind of area where you run for pleasure rather than from the police

giddykipper · 21/09/2008 22:05

Welcome gemmie

giddy, keep going, at least you went out, pat yourself on the back. I failed this week. It has been a killer week for me so I am going to try week 2 again next week.

BlessThisMess · 22/09/2008 09:53

RipeB, no I don't have to run. The blurb for the race says "run, walk or crawl"! But I have my best friend and my cousin both doing the run with me, and they are experienced runners, so I really don't want to look TOO much of a breathless blob miles behind them!!

Kiwi - I think each week isn't actually any harder than the week before, because you are fitter even though you don't feel it. Each week I've felt I don't really think I can do any more than I did last week, but when I've tried, I've managed it!!

BlessThisMess · 22/09/2008 09:58

Giddy, if the runs have made you feel too rough, bring it down a bit. I didn't know about the Couch-to-5K plan when I started (accidentally typed Cough-to-5K then which is pretty accurate for me!), and I did 1 min run, 2 min walk x 8 to start with, then I reduced some of the 2 min walks to 1.5 mins, then I reduced some of them to 1 min, and I didn't run any more than 1 min until I could do 1 min run 1 min walk x 10.

It helps that I am doing my 5K sponsored run in memory of my son, my first baby who only lived for 8 weeks. Keeps me pretty motivated!

HorseStories · 22/09/2008 19:49

I managed my 2nd run of week1 today. I would have completed week 1 over the weekend if we hadn't had family come to stay. Anyway I went as soon as DH came in from work, about 6:15 and it felt great after a sluggish day mostly stuck indoors.

I went up a street I will avoid in future where teenage boys on bikes shouted droopy boobs and big boobs at me Nice! Not that I have big boobs, so I can discount the droopy boob comment too I guess.

I must remember to turn the other way out of my house and run through nicer areas.

funnypeculiar · 22/09/2008 20:51

hello all - just in from week 2 run 2 - hurray. Really enjoyed it ... & I really felt like I was running rather than jogging, iykwim.

funnypeculiar · 22/09/2008 21:07

Just read thread: BlessThisMess - so sorry to hear about your son - but lovely to be doing something in memorial of him.

Horsestories - yikes about the boys & their shouting. I am trying to imagine I'm invisible whilst I'm running

giddykipper · 22/09/2008 21:29

Whoop whoop I just did week 2 run 3 and felt actually quite good , managed it relatively easily. I feel better now. I will definitely do week 2 a 4th time though.

Well done to everyone who's been out.

Yay, well done GiddyKipper!!!

BlessThisMess · 23/09/2008 12:27

wowee, just done Week 5 but went straight into run 2, not run 1. That's 2 x 8mins rather than 3 x 5 mins. Just felt like I could manage it, and I did (but only just!). will probably do that run again, because run 3 is 20 mins non-stop!!!! Dreading that one.

kiwibella · 24/09/2008 13:27

wow Blessthismess... go girl!! Also lovely to know that you are running in memory of your lo... so precious

DevilsAdvocaat · 24/09/2008 13:32

hello,

i did it on the last couch to 5k thread and it was brill!

keep up the good work ladies

giddykipper · 24/09/2008 19:33

So it's really possible to do it then is it DevilsA? I just can't conceive of running non-stop for 20 minutes. Well done Bless, you're doing us all proud!

Well I'm finally back in the groove after my long weekend away at a wedding. Did my last run of Wk 2 on Friday and nothing since.

Do you think I should repeat a Wk 2 run tomorrow since the gap's been so long? Don't want to step up too quickly and hurt myself!

BlessThisMess · 25/09/2008 10:02

cg, I think I would repeat one Week 2 run - better to have a reasonable target that leaves you feeling confident.

I meant to get up early and go this morning, but stayed up too late last night and couldn't do it. (Not as late as you CG, by the look of it though!)

BlessThisMess · 25/09/2008 19:59

OK if any of you find me on MN after 10pm tonight, KICK ME OFF!! I have to get to bed early so I can get up in the morning for a run, otherwise I will totally cock up my schedule!

(And yes, I do know that MN is going down at 10.30pm tonight - probably just as well!!!)

nappyaddict · 25/09/2008 20:08

does anyone run every day?

giddykipper · 25/09/2008 22:09

No way, every other day at best. I haven't been out since Monday

OP posts:
BlessThisMess · 26/09/2008 17:36

I seem to alternate between twice and three times per week.

I did Week 5 Run 2 today - 2 x 8 mins again. It was hard going at times. I definitely think it's harder going first thing in the morning before breakfast, but I don't want to eat anything first and make myself sick!

And now I have to face a 20 min run at the weekend. Have phoned a runner friend to come and encourage me by running together.
