This is what I'm talking about

And there are podcasts for your mp3 player to help.

Anyone feel like a bit of mutual motivation?

BlessThisMess · 23/10/2008 19:32

Ah you're going to have to kick me harder than that girls - I didn't go yesterday. Meant to get up early today and go before DH left for work but lazed in bed instead. Must go early tomorrow otherwise it won't be till Sunday.

BlessThisMess · 24/10/2008 22:36

Didn't go early today either. Must try harder...

kiwibella · 26/10/2008 10:01

I haven't been all week . It's not through lack of trying... haven't been able to coordinate a time with hubs in the evening (he's had a social life this week!) and can't get my ar$e out of bed in the mornings. It's raining now . Despite running in the rain on Monday... I don't feel like it now.

Pennies · 26/10/2008 19:04

Hello - can I join in please? BTM linked to it in response to my question about running in the rain today.

I went for my first run this morning and did 5ks, of which about 3 were running, so I'm not sure where that puts me on the Couch to 5k spectrum but I just downloaded the podcast and have decided to start from scratch so that I can do it properly. I haven't listened to the week 1 podcast yet, I don't really want to until I next go for a run, so can anyone tell me what a week 1 run comprises of in terms of walking / running etc.

Pennies · 26/10/2008 19:06

Also, a quick question about running at night time - it's really, really dark round here (country lanes etc) so what do you use to see anything and also ensure that you can be seen? DH is never back for 8pm and what with clock times changing then there's hardly any chance of a daylight run midweek as have 2 pre-schoolers.

BlessThisMess · 26/10/2008 22:15

Hi Pennies, welcome!
The couch-to-5k plan is on this webpage and summarises each week's runs. I would have thought if you can start off running 3k (even if in fits and starts) then you probably won't want to start in Week 1! Sounds like you're a good deal fitter than many of us starting off

I was wondering about running in the dark myself just this week - just told myself I'd have to settle for running up and down the main street of the village where there are streetlights. I don't think I'd head out anywhere unlit.

Maybe somebody else will be along soon with more ideas.

kiwibella · 27/10/2008 13:35

I went yesterday, after all and I managed most of week 4 (3 mins / 5 mins / 3 mins and then only 3 mins).

Absolutely amazed by your run BTM and well done Pennies - definitely have a look at the link BTM has mentioned because there is no way you will need to start at the beginning .

I don't mind running in the rain... only it's a bit slippery. For once I can realise how fortunate I am living in the middle of London because there aren't many un-lit areas. Hope you can work out a solution BTM.

BlessThisMess · 28/10/2008 08:53

I went out for 30 minutes again this morning but had to walk after 10 minutes. And had to do run and walk for the rest too - my legs just were too tired! I seem to alternate one good run and one bad run - and the bad ones are very demotivating!

It might be because I went out before breakfast, so wasn't fuelled up (though it's supposed to be OK to do that!) or that it's only 2 days since my last run and I seem to do a lot better on a week's break!!! Ah well, I will persevere.

Pennies · 28/10/2008 13:51

Well I went on my first couch to 5k run today and found it much easier than I anticipated, so I ended up doing it twice! The penulitamte run was the toughest to do but I wasn't dripping with sweat or anything. I bet my legs will ache tomorrow though.

Do you think I should graduate myself to the week 2 podcasts then?

Does anyone have a Nike+ sportband? I was using mine today and it said I covered 4.83 miles, but when I did the route afterwards again in the car the reading on the car's mileometer was 3.6 miles. Can anyone explain why?

BlessThisMess · 28/10/2008 14:20

Pennies,
It sounds to me like you should do one of each week's run until you find one that is quite hard and you feel you need 2 or 3 sessions of doing it before moving on. So yes, week 2 sounds like a good idea!

giddykipper · 30/10/2008 20:58

You're all still doing so well.

I'm......not.

Must get going again
Must get going again
Must get going again

But it's cooooooollllllllldddddd.
