hi almost40
glad you can do it with no help,i'm using chewing gum and lozenges and i hope i can stop using them soon
how is everyone today?

almost40 · 22/02/2005 13:38

Hi WM, I've tried many things in the past. I have just started the pill, so I have an added reason to have quit. I think the gum is quite good. Good luck to you.

OOOOPS!

whymummy · 22/02/2005 14:24

i tried the patches once and i thought i was having a heart attack, cold sweats, rash, etc i don't think they agree with me so this time i just went for the gum and i'm surprise how well i'm doing, also coming in here is a great help, mind you my mumsnet addiction has returned because of it,lol

almost40 · 22/02/2005 14:30

The mumsnet addiction is a healthy one, I think. Smoking is nothing but bad bad bad. Vile vile habit. Hang in there!! The most amazing thing (actually, really gross, but I'll tell you anyway) is that all this disgusting thick mucousy stuff came up after I quit - and I feel like I can breathe better. All in all, I just feel cleaner and fresher. Hard to explain, but I really do feel good - actually better than I have in years.

minkmama · 22/02/2005 15:15

Hi Almost40, i also restarted after having ds2 on the pretence that it was going to be just 1, then just 1 packet etc....that was last summer!!! i think i will have to surrender to the fact that i'm just not one of those people who can smoke the odd one after giving up!!

i'm using lozenges as no-one seems to have a good story to tell about the patches and anyway i find that they're a good psychological substitute.

i feel like i'm soooo behind you lot...can't wait till i can catch up and the counter says 1 month!! off to get ds1 now so see you guys later!

charliecat · 22/02/2005 15:52

Ill blunder back in ages to late!.....Welcome almost40.
I too feel better than I have done in years and its nice not to have that black cloud of guilt hanging over my head.
I can cope with coffee without fags. Probably drink more of it some days actually, I think theres caffiene in fags somewhere along the line, so your body may itch thinking its about to get a dose of nicotine but it never comes.
WellDone Willow and Mink...i cant tell you how nice it is to know that your not out at that wheeliebin smoking in this nasty weather!!!
Ive got to the point where I cant believe how much time and energy and thought went into my smoking habit.
The whole bloody day used to revolve around having one/thirty-five. Before a coffee with a coffee after a coffee on the way out the door, on the way, before going in...after being in, one before lunch after...fag break...before school time...OMFG...so pleased to be 100000000000zillion miles away from that.
Fiona, yes DP has stopped, apparently he had 1 puff of some foriegn something yesterday, and splutered and said thats why ive given up but I know myself its just that one wee puff that can put you back onto the whole habit again so feeling a bit wibbly wobbly for him.
Sad as is it, if he does balls it up it will only make me stronger in a sick sort of sense. Because seeing someone else making the same daft mistakes you have fell for makes it 10x worse!!! And will make me hopefully 10x more determined not to fall for the same shit.
Too long sorry!!!

Thanks, CC and thanks for starting this thread. My DH smokes, which I have always blamed for my relapses after pregnancies. I do hope he quits soon, but it does make me feel strong that I haven't had the urge whenever he lights up. MM, the lozenges are good too I think. It's tough, but I think something in your mind has to trigger how absolutely vile smoking is. I try to repeat that to myself and remind myself of the disgusting thick stuff that builds up on your (once-fresh-pink) lungs. When you quit, you see it all come up and gross as it is, it shows you what smoking is doing to you.

whymummy · 22/02/2005 16:34

i didn't coughed up anything!!!is it all still inside me?? i can't really say i feel much better yet,i smell better but i've been feeling reaaaally tired and constipated wich i've never been in my life maybe that's what's making me feel bloated and tired, still i know i'm going to be healthier
good to see you're all doingwell, minkmama you'll soon get there,it goes really quick the first month

almost40 · 22/02/2005 16:41

Maybe you didn't build up all that nasty stuff like I did. Coffee helps w/ the fatigue and constiation, I find. Are you a coffee-drinker? Tea is good too of course.

whymummy · 22/02/2005 16:51

i must admit that in the 20 years i smoked i hardly ever had any bad coughs and i smoked 20 a day where did it all go ??? maybe to my stomach instead of lungs that's why i used to poo more, lol;i love coffee and it always did the trick with a fag but not anymore, i got some senakot today see if it works, sorry about the poo subject everyone

charliecat · 22/02/2005 16:53

I definitely poo less as a non-smoker. Swear more too. I find that I have to drink more caffeine, which does help, but then again, anything that goes into the mouth helps, doesn't it? Of course haven't been able to shed the weight since DD2 was born. I'd rather be a fat non-smoker than a skinny smoker though any day.

charliecat · 22/02/2005 17:32

Me too almost40 ...any day of the week.

OP posts:
whymummy · 22/02/2005 17:35

oh yes i do swear a lot more now and get really histerical for no reason, two weeks ago i burst into tears cos i couldn't find my house keys, pathetic moi? the children just look at me,god knows what they're thinking

charliecat · 22/02/2005 17:38

They are thinking mummys stopped smoking and gone mad but at least she doesnt stink anymore
I got one of those incredibly annoying bleeper things for my purse so i can whistle and find it. Got pissed off with it beeping all the time when I wasnt needing it but it certainly stopped my heartrendering moments of panic whenmy brain will not kick in to tell me where I last had it. It fell off a couple of weeks ago and i havent put it back on........i keep forgetting!!!

Gosh you lot have been busy chatting!!!
Welcome almost40 - it is great here, everyone is sooooo supportive.
Coughing - i am the same as WM, never had a problem. But fil has had a very nasty cough for years, and it is starting to clear now he has stopped smoking.
Pooing - can't say i noticed, but a friend of a friends husband went out with a girl who smoked marlborough light, and used to go to the loo straight after smoking! Apparently it has a laxative effect!
Swearing - i have always had a filthy mouth. People say DD's first word will be bs!!!!
Weight - still large, and am having a bad week (see nasty spots thread!) so eating masses BUT at least i don't smell! I haven't had a puff since 02/01/05 and am very proud of myself.

Keep going mink - it gets easier.
