For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Bero you sound very determined and clear and strong. People we grew up with can often make us feel like we were the people we were back then and make us hesitate, I find. But the decisions you made should be trusted, I think, at least more than your parents interpretation of your situation which is far less informed than your own.

It is unnerving to have a wobble though. Could it be going back to work influencing your confidence? It would be if it were me.

It is hard. I was thinking tonight how hard it is to be a parent and a person at the same time. I think you can only do it sometimes if you close your eyes and just go with it for a bit.

How old is ds2? I found it incredibly hard for a long time with two. So many feelings and demands and it is bloody hard at times. Such a worry.

And then you have to consider being a contributing person in society too, and get back to work and be all snot-free and adult. It is not easy.

berolina · 27/07/2008 00:35

f+v:

oj
sesame seed and cucumber rolls

salad (lettuce, red pepper, carrot, apricots, sunflower seeds, parsley) with spelt-wheat burgers

rice with tomatoes

carrot cake

berolina · 27/07/2008 00:37

ds2 is 10 months, ds1 3.2. Not a big gap really.

We have such ideas, don't we, despite ourselves and experience, and it can be so tough not to live up to them. But amazing in the little bits of moments when we do. (Please forgive presumptuously generalising 'we').

berolina · 27/07/2008 00:39

that's funny about closing your eyes - the Germans have an expression for exactly that - 'Augen zu and durch' - literally 'close [your] eyes and [go] through'.

berolina · 27/07/2008 00:42

he is asleep. off to bed.

The weather site says it is 22°C here. At 1.30am. 22.

that is me, sweating.

S1ur · 27/07/2008 00:46

Mine are now nearly 2 and nearly 4.

I find it very frustrating when my temper frayed by monotony doesn't live up to my ideals of parenting. It should. In my head I am a jolly good parent, it just sometimes gets lost in the passage to my acions.

How strange about that German phrase! it is apt though. Although it is NOT applicable to when you are driving and a car seems to be coming too close towards you, then you must NOT close you eyes. DP told me so.

berolina · 27/07/2008 00:52

I like the getting lost in the passage to your actions. That's it, isn't it? And the never-ending chasing what needs to be done while the plans to make a cash register with ds1 for his new play money (shopping current obsession) recede into the distance.

sleep well

S1ur · 27/07/2008 00:59

Yes, those good intentions involving craft and imagination, that end up involving glue on the floor and you weeping into the paint pot.

Tis a joy.

pinkspottywellies · 27/07/2008 09:20

Morning!!

I've been up for 2 hours and managed to fend off the tv. As soon as dh gets up with her on a Saturday he puts it on so then she expects it with me. Grrr. Doesn't get it though

I've had mango and nectarine so far.

pinkspottywellies · 27/07/2008 09:21

There was a lot of stuff last night, but I feel like the late night stuff should be left in the morning, if that's ok. But I'm not ignoring the angst and things!

IdrisTheDragon · 27/07/2008 09:35

Hello

Guadalupe · 27/07/2008 09:44

I agree, Pink.

It is baking here again. We are off to the beach. At the party dd went to after the fairy fair yesterday, I noticed my friend had lots of beach bags of stuff lining the hall. I said have you just got back and she said, no they leave it all packed and ready to go all summer and then they just grab a picnic and they're off.

Great organisation, I thought, that is what I will do, be ready to jump in the van in a flash. This will of course require reorganising all the bags post beach. I am not so great at that. We will see. Can't decide whether to go for a closer beach with rolling waves and more people or a further beach wth less people and lagoony pools for them to play in. I think I just answered my own question.

What is a yam anyway, I've never known, is it like a sweet potato?

No fruit yet. We only have apples this morning and I don't fancy one. The strawberries are infested with fruit flies.

Tatties · 27/07/2008 09:44

Morning all

Pink you are a stronger woman than I

I love Billy Bragg too

Gonna take a chance on another mango today

pinkspottywellies · 27/07/2008 09:59

DH is up. TV is going on.

TigerFeet · 27/07/2008 10:04

Morning

Tatties I will join you in your mango chancery - I have one that I believe is on the cusp of hardness/cuntingness so with any luck it will be just right

BBBee · 27/07/2008 10:08

well the aforementioned banoffee pie sits in my fridge being too sweet but that doesn't stop me taking a spoonful most times that I pass - I have probably consumed a WHOLE tin of condensed milk single handedly - but there was banana in it I suppose...

it must be so nice to live near the sea - we are as far from the sea as it is possible to be in this country.

-banana

Guadalupe · 27/07/2008 10:10

bannoffe pie is achingly sweet anyway though, even if homemade, but I agree, pizza express ones are rank. We should tell them, it is a shame seen as the pizzas are so good.

BBBee · 27/07/2008 10:27

no wait - the figs - have you had the figs in pizza express - they come with coffee - I can live with that but you could ask for tea and these darling baby figs that have been soaked in heady aromatic syrap and some creme fraiche - they are rather divine. Have those.
