For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

oh dear, i've only had orange juice and then strawberries and raisins on my cereal. I'll try and do better, but I'm going out for what will probably be a very unhealthy lunch so I don't think I'm anywhere near worthy of a vegetable themed nickname yet!

TooTicky · 13/07/2008 12:07

Well you've done better than me. I've only had about half a pear.
(Wrong end of the week really, have already raided garden for all ripe peas)

Boco · 13/07/2008 14:16

I think I was quite brave.
I talked to a man whose opening line was 'what does your husband like to do, apart from have sex with you?'.

And I said 'um... well, he quite likes reading'

And he said 'won't catch me reading no fucking books, no fucker goin to tell ME what to do!'

And I said, 'no, I think you might be thinking specifically instruction manuals, most books don't tell you what to do'.

And he went off to talk to someone else.

FrannyandZooey · 13/07/2008 14:17

ooh lordy
that was madder than you would expect at the average party wasn't it
read those Magnus Mills books yet? [fear]

zippitippitoes · 13/07/2008 14:18

boco how weird

Tatties · 13/07/2008 14:19

I am mid-cleaning / tidying frenzy. I wonder how much I can get done before the boys come home.

Boco you are brave and good at witty comebacks. I would just be stood there like this

FrannyandZooey · 13/07/2008 14:22

in fact I think the man must have been reading the Magnus Mills books and taken them as instruction manuals

Tatties · 13/07/2008 14:24

I need to eat something. Cheese sandwich I think

FrannyandZooey · 13/07/2008 14:27

I am eating cheese and crackers and some white chocolate
it is a pale yellow kind of snack

Tatties · 13/07/2008 14:44

I have just had cheese sandwich, some gorgeous tangy blackberries and a fig

I am doing Natural Consequences.

The natural consequence of my doing natural consequences with ds2 is that he has gone barking mad, and I am doing deep breathing, and trying to stay calm.

Grrrrrr.

It is very wearing. And he is very provocative, and I am talking too much.

And everyone else has gone out for lunch and for a nice walk because the natural consequence of Refusing To Get Dressed or Come Out or Be In Anyway A Decent Human Being is to stay at home, and not have any lunch.

I think.

I am off-loading.

DS2 does this ALL THE TIME - refuse to get dressed, move, come along with us, do something, anything that everyone else is doing.

I think the natural consequence of my doing natural consequences with ds2 is that I will explode.

Thank you for listening.

Is it possible do you think, that we shall ride the wave of this barking behaviour and all will be revealed at the end of the day and he will see it is much better just to come for lunch? Or not?

I haven't lost my temper yet.

Boco · 13/07/2008 14:53

I read the scheme for full employment but that's the only one - which is the one that's like the village?

The woman next door is lovely, but some of her friends are quite drunken gruff villagers. One of the women wet herself.

ahundredtimes · 13/07/2008 14:58

Also - could someone please explain to me in short words why it is that a person might lie on the sofa and say 'I'm not going anywhere with any of you, ever and no I won't get dressed and no, I don't want to and I shan't'

and why then everyone else gets knots in their stomachs about it - because it happens ever such a lot - and we all get tense and why a person wouldn't just say

'Oh do we have to? Okay then' and put their shoes on.

I might lose my temper in a moment. I am typing and ignoring instead.

ahundredtimes · 13/07/2008 14:59

Also why does it have to be a War?

And how do we stop it being a War?

Thank you.

[bows]

[bows with gritted teeth]

FrannyandZooey · 13/07/2008 15:03

100 I don't know but I think I may need to know
we have this on a smaller scale and it drives me nuts
I wish you all luck with it

ahundredtimes · 13/07/2008 15:06

Oh Franny. Thank you.

I always think everything is about attention. Because nobody thinks they get enough of it - and perhaps they don't.

But somehow ds1 and dd get that life can't work if we all just strike out on our own and refuse stuff all the time.

I have challenged this. He has gone nuts. He ran out the house earlier. He threw stuff off my desk on to the floor. He is very articulate in his fury, which is quite horrible.

TooTicky · 13/07/2008 15:07

Oh god 100x, that is hard work. Is he cross generally?

If that happens here then dp tends to do shouting from hell and everybody ends up faintly terrified.
That's no help, is it?

Do you have any idea why he doesn't want to do things?
My dcs (well, ds2) sometimes goes on strike but it is generally because of something.

OP posts:
Boco · 13/07/2008 15:08

God I don't know that's hard.
Why would he be doing it - for the attention? Is he angry about something?
I've been doing natural consequences of not eating lunch is that you don't go to granny's house to practice putting up the tent - but because I very very much wanted them to both go so I could not have children in the house for an hour - it just meant that I went on and on about the consequences while they didn't eat lunch for 3 hours, and then I gave up and they went anyway, so I am obviously rubbish at this.
