had to call GP out earlier, gp felt that dh is cardiomyopathy is gettign worse so called dh cardiologist to get an emergency appt with her. she has just called and wants dh admitted NOW! he had a 24hr holter monitor done beginning of the week, and dh was vomiting a lot whilst on it. i have never known him to be called in this quickly.

misdee, I've been looking for you everywhere!

I'm SO sorry to hear this but hospital is the best place for him. Why was he vomiting? Is that part of the condition too?

I've still got a ton of questions for you but will hold them back until you're sorted.

I've got everything crossable crossed for you honey xxx

nasa · 27/01/2005 21:37

misdee - only just seen this - sending you loads of positive thoughts

misdee · 27/01/2005 21:38

vomiting can be a sign of extra fluid build up in the lungs/stomach. chuck in swollen ankles, breathlessness, weakness, etc etc and you have my DH on a good day.

So tomorrow i have to trek to the hospital (thanks dad for the lifts) with dd2, dd1 is being picked up from school by grandma, staying at mieows for the evening, possibly overnight, and my poor dog will be all alone again.

I also have to clean the car and get it to the garage for inspection. as we need to change it. thankfully i am insured, so when dh comes out he can sit with me and i'll drive it there.

What exactly do they think is happening to him now misdee? I mean, what's changing? What kinds of things can they do in the meantime while he waits for the transplant list?

mears · 27/01/2005 22:19

Thinking of you all Misdee

Carla · 28/01/2005 06:56

misdee - only just caught up with this - you poor things Thinking of you - let us know how it goes today.

FineFigureFio · 28/01/2005 07:16

LGJ, What a nice story. My sister had a double transplant (heart and lung) in '99 at papworth. sadly she died 3 years after the transplant but those 3 years were precious to us. She was also called once before for 'another' transplant that wasnt suitable!

Misdee, i am sorry he has gone into hospital but I think you know he needed to be seen by the specialist and hopefully this will push things along a bit. i am sure you know they do not transfer you to transplant assessment until the last available minute as a donor can often be found quite quickly. For my sister i think the first unsuitable donor was found in the first month of being on the list, but the second one was about 3 months after - so pretty quick.

Whilst he is in hospital make sure he is seen by a physio aswell, he needs to be given exercises to do athoime to make his life a bit more comfortable.

i will be on msn later, but thinking of you al;l {{{{{{}}}}}} and if i was closer, i would come and walk your dog for you xx

misdee · 28/01/2005 07:25

He finally got a bed at midnight, he is on MAU, not cardiology as they couldnt get a bed up there, but Dr Lynch is coming to see him today. I am so grateful that our new GP took dh and my worries seriously and helped get him admitted. All other GP's have just thrown anti biotics at him.

One thing i have been wondering is, if his heart is enlarged (three times size of normal heart) then surely it pressing on the right lung woud reduce lung capacity and cause breathlessness? MIL also said that may be the case. Am i right?

OP posts:
FineFigureFio · 28/01/2005 07:27

It could be yes but people can live with limited lung capacity. 2 lobes are sufficient to be exact, so that may not be worrying themn as much

GRMUM · 28/01/2005 07:28

Morning misdee, hope that you managed to rest last night and, of course, that dh had a good night. Here's hoping that you get some positive news today. x

misdee · 28/01/2005 07:29

cheers FIO, just trying to find a reason for his increased breathlessness lately. As far as we are aware his heart hasnt increased in size, but hasnt decreased either.

i best go get the kids dressed for school.
