well it wasn't me either, I said you sounded naive and you said fuck off back to fruit loops or something

zippitippitoes · 20/06/2008 08:22

well of copurse you should teach it otherwise people wouldnt know about them

or feel they were something that only other people got

and ,apparently, from your own op even worse other people not like them

I knew someone, he was a boyfriend briefly - he admitted before we shagged, that he had had herpes about 10 years ago with no recurrence...needless to say I was careful

You can never get rid of that one, if you have had it once. Eww.

I almost walked out when he told me but seeing as he had been honest I felt obliged to give him a chance. Turned out he was a wanker anyway so ditched him after a few weeks. I didn't catch anything...

girlnextdoor · 20/06/2008 08:35

Yes- the 2nd person I ever had sex with- I thought we were in a monogamous relationship- but he didn't/wasn't. I got a non-specific STI. This was over 30 years ago- and using condoms was not so mandatory as it is today for non-exclusive sex ( though at the time I thought i was exclusive!)

a friend of mine showed me her fanjo, really nasty, didn't know what it was. decided to both go to gu clinic as she was nervous. i had a dental appointment before and my mum took me, said friend also came.
i had gas and couldn't function after, so mum says "ooh where are you 2 going"
"to the hospital"
"ill just run you there", i couldn't get out of the car and mum dragged my friend thinking she was going for a regular appointment.

one hour later, mum with a face like thunder, friend in tears. she had herpes, my mum was outraged to have been sat in a gu clinic.

janinlondon · 20/06/2008 10:38

But 36% of blood donors in the UK carry herpes simplex. Most of them don't know.....

greenelizabeth · 20/06/2008 11:46

Can't believe you had to look at your friend's dodgy fanjo!! I would have advised that she use a mirror and her own judgement..

Guadalupe · 20/06/2008 11:52

A lot of people know of someone with something don't they

Psychomum5 · 20/06/2008 12:00

hands up here too, and I am fighting not to put in the blush face!!!

......lost!

mine was something tho that almost killed my marraige off, as I was totally blameless, and it has taken a long while to reconcile myself with how it happened, so obviously that gives some clue to my shame.

BUT

I do wish it wasn;t such a stigma, as then I would have been able to be more open about it and it would never have effected me the way that is has done at times.

heyho.....tis all part of our learning experiences of life I guess, and makes us more rounded individuals......((I hope))

laura032004 · 20/06/2008 12:08

Have never had anything luckily, but have been monogamously with DH since I was 17.

Had a friend who had genital warts at age 20, so she's going to be living with that for a long time

janinlondon · 20/06/2008 12:12

Just out of interest, I wonder how many people have actually had the tests without having had any symptoms? (ie: how many here who've said they've never had anything actually haven't?).

zippitippitoes · 20/06/2008 12:15

i had tests with no symptoms a few weeks ago

just so that we could start having sex with no condoms

so i am ok and know it definitely as does bf as he had them done too

janinlondon · 20/06/2008 12:17

Zippi - I reckon you and I are in the minority though!

Flllight · 20/06/2008 14:08

I always get tested in a new relationship - or after an old one...

Once I asked my new bf to get a test and we both did, before we did it without using anything. That was Ok. I am a worrier though.

charliecat · 20/06/2008 14:23

I know someone with genital herpes.
I also remember sitting having a fag with one of my mates when we were 16 and she reeled off 3 STIs and I just thought OMFG
I havent had anything. Would never sleep with someone without a condom now, though have done before.

girlnextdoor · 20/06/2008 14:24

I had no symptoms. I only knew cos the man I met next developed symptoms- and it was from me- yes, that IS true- I knew his history.

If in doubt- get checked!!!

Amphibimum · 20/06/2008 15:02

i heard that sti's as a whole are more common now than the common cold. which is pretty common.

so if youre sexually active, you really ought to get checked out every now and then, eh? even condoms arent 100% protection from everything

TheBlonde · 20/06/2008 16:49

a recent study in the USA suggested that 1/4 teenage girls there has an STI

LissyD · 20/06/2008 17:07

i got herpes from letting a long term boyfriend go down on me when he had a coldsore. So its not all from not using condoms.

My mate had chlamdya. It was horrible for her as she had to ring everyone she had slept with in the last six months and tell them. Makes me glad to be in a relationship.

Monkeytrousers · 20/06/2008 17:46

Haha. So you think Flllight, as JiL says...

Most of us will have some form of herpes virus. Asymtomitic or otherwise.

Flllight · 20/06/2008 18:47

Yes, true - although as long as it stayed asymptomatic I don't think I would be too bothered! You can't be sure even if you get tested after, because it doesn't show up unless you have an active episode apparently and go during that to be tested...

I was glad I was careful while with him though. It would be awful to catch something horrid from a git - really not worth the trouble!

hifi · 20/06/2008 19:42

when did it change from st DISEASE to st INFECTION?

Amphibimum · 20/06/2008 21:51

Flobberghasted · 20/06/2008 21:51
