For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Thanks Talilac but I have beans, it's just carrots I need really. Oh, and a grape vine and a cherry tree would be nice
One of our neighbours grows grapes so I am tempted to try.

My dd2 is very nearly three, how old are your dcs?

Oh dear, fussy grown ups are very trying. She says, as a vegan with a strong aversion to milky smells.

TooTicky · 17/06/2008 14:07

Actually, dp eats so very differently from me (he is a fairly unhealthy omnivore) that he doesn't even eat with the rest of us any more.

FrannyandZooey · 17/06/2008 14:09

TooT don't answer if it's not appropriate but is there a story behind why your dp doesn't get a steady kind of job?
I have tried to phrase that about 14 different ways but it sounds judgy however I say it so please ignore the apparent criticism
I am just nosy
well and wishing he would get a steady job so you could worry a bit less
easier said than done though I know

I have carrot seeds - 2 kinds
don't need to swop as nothing I have planted is coming up so no point
actually the carrots are sprouting a bit so I can vouch for them being good uns
please email with your address to give me no excuse not to send them

Hey TT, smaller than your so sorry not to be able to help.

Fussy grownups probably need a bit more consideration that I am currently giving DH. I must Try Harder.

FrannyandZooey · 17/06/2008 14:10

talila I would hate eating a fishy meal but I guess it is more than that
I am the fussiest eater in this house so I tend to have more sympathy but still find very annoying if someone ELSE is being fussy

The tiredness/ food epiphany is so true. But I just can't bring myself to eat in the morning. I used to be good at it. Must try again.

Hope Avi's headache goes away

Bubble machine is fab for neglecting entertaining children at a party. You must get one.

Toot, it would be wonderful to be able to make money from being creative, wouldn't it?

Catering to Fussy grown ups would be rather trying. Although, I am known for being picky (because people who don't want to eat meat over here are viewed as being difficult) so I am not one to speak.

I have to go to physiotherapy this morning which I could really do without but I am hoping that it will help with my underlying grumpiness. It does work miracles, doesn't it?

Have a lovely day everyone.

UnderRated · 17/06/2008 14:24

Oh, I just made myself eat breakfast - oats with raisins and banana [smug]

zippitippitoes · 17/06/2008 14:27

Any of you arty types any good at nice writing/sort of lettering/signwriting?

I want the lyrics to the Boatman (a Levellers song) sort of inscribed onto perhaps a canvas with maybe some illustation? Or at least a nice background colour...for our wedding anniversary/gift for DH.
I will pay....

Guadalupe · 17/06/2008 16:57

That is one of my favourites of theirs, FMV, I listen to that in the car quite a bit.

More makeral, coleslaw and beetroot. Goats cheese and spinach flamme (quiche) with broccoli and mizuna and tomatoes for dinner. The asparagus has gone from our grocers. I will miss it. I expect I can still get in in Sainsburys though.

Guadalupe · 17/06/2008 16:58

mackerel even

fullmoonfiend · 17/06/2008 17:01

yes, we have always loved it but since we got the boat it has become our family theme song. Actually more of a mission statement....
And it's looking like the boat will be called The Boatman's Song (If I could choose the life I please...) in its honour

UnderRated · 17/06/2008 18:25

Nice pics, zippi

at The Boatman's Song. Of course, I'll be singing that all day now. I don't think I can do lettering.

Physio was ok - my shoulder hurts more now than it has for months but I have exercises to do with a giant rubber band. And if it doesn't get better, they'll send me for an MRI.

Eating well has made me patient and nice today. I must remember to do this every day

TooTicky · 17/06/2008 18:32

Fmf, I don't think I'd be good enough. Lovely idea though.

Avi - bubble machine - ebay?

Franny, dp is running his own business Doing His Own Thing which is fine up to a point, and obviously better psychologically than doing a job one hates.
And when he did have a full time job he hated he used to get this weird fall-asleep-at-the-drop-of-a-hat thing, whilst sitting, driving, standing up, etc. He doesn't do that any more.
Yes I'd like him to find a way of earning more, especially while dd2 is still pre-school, but I'm not bringig in any money atm.
Will be looking after my friend's dd 2 days a week soon though, and probably another wee one 2 morningds aw eek from Sept
Of course, if everybody in the world bought more nice personalised mugs, T shirts, mouse mats, jigsaws, etc......

FrannyandZooey · 17/06/2008 18:35

yes i see I hope it didn't sound rude TooT
well I hope it didn't sound TOO rude
I see it's good for his health and happiness which is obv important
I presumed you don't bring in money atm as you are doing all the childcare? do you feel like you should be earning as well?
gosh all a bit personal, sorry
will try to keep nose out

fullmoonfiend · 17/06/2008 18:36

are you sure you wouldn't be good enough??
You only have to be better than me......!

FrayedKnot · 17/06/2008 18:49

Hello all

TooT I also have carrot seeds and some chard if you still need any. I wish DS was a DD as I don;t have anyone to pass his clothes on to. Some things could be unisex, though, couldn;t they? Will have a look through if you like.

UR so sorry, I didn;t appreciate you are having to do this each time you & ex disagree on something, I assume? What a *$)% he is

Avi we only did pass the parcel at DS' 3rd birthday, rest of the time the children just played outside.

At his 4th we did pass the parcel, musical mats, and the game where you put lots of different everyday objects in a bag and the children wear a blindfold (we just used a mask) and have to pick out an object and guess what it was. Most of them peeked but had fun doing it.

Right, now for the tally up..

Dried apricots & sultanas (muesli)
Large portion strawbs & rasps
Green salad
Hoummous
A peach
Quiche with spinach, watercress & rocket
Tomato and green bean salad
Green salad

Er...can;t eat anymore at the moment because going to yoga. I'd forgotten how when I really do 10/10 I have to not eat other things like biscuits because otherwise I am not hungry enough to eat extra fruit

FMF what a lovely present idea. I am not particulalry good at anything like that so can;t help...perhaps you could find someone in the wider MN world who could help out?

UnderRated · 17/06/2008 18:52

FK, you deserve a badge for your 10/10 today. That all sounds very good.

fullmoonfiend · 17/06/2008 18:56

oh yes, F&V...
banana, grapes, melon, chickpea/lentil/soybean/onion/tomato/mushroom stew for lunch. Pork chops with creamed mushrooms, rice, brocolli, beans for dinner later.

Yay, 10, 12 maybe!

TooTicky · 17/06/2008 18:57

Can I just ask the non-calpol-givers amongst you what you would do with a child with a temp of at least 104

TooTicky · 17/06/2008 18:59

You haven't all gone, have you?

TooTicky · 17/06/2008 19:00

fairly rapid breathing, no rash
