Welcome to the thread, the purpose of this is to give anyone who is having any trouble with their drinking, a safe place to come and post about it honestly and without judgement.

There are many of us that use the thread for support and encouragement: some in recovery, others just needing a place to share about their worries. It's been going on in one form of another for a while now and has helped many people.

Thank you to all of those who have kept it going thus far, and welcome to anyone who has decided the time has come to ask for help.

Everybody's welcome, no matter what stage your drinking is at.

Jump right in, the water's fine

I've just had my first counceling session, which I will use to talk about alcohol. The NHS mental health help is completely useless where we live. They will scrape up the bits only when you have fallen off the cliff. There is nothing for anyone thinking about jumping. It's the same with alcohol. My gp suggested I went to church

Elibean · 12/12/2008 17:12

Church??!?

Yikes.

Fingers crossed the counsellor is a little (lot) more enlightened, Bla.

Is there AA in your area? Worth a look??

BlaDeBla · 12/12/2008 17:45

I do hope so!!
I'm not entirely sure about AA, but people here say that all the meetings are different and you have to find one that suits you.

We're out in the sticks, so options may be limited. I'm more inclined to stick to the individual councelling as I don't really like groups.

Weekend from hell - rows with kids - dp a total arsehole - drank loads all weekend - in need of sobriety - feeling like a really bad parent again - feeling like my family is a total mess - my kids are going to grow up totally screwed up due to me and their father. What a way to feel about life - I am dreading christmas

PurpleOne · 28/12/2008 17:06

*bump

Did everyone have a good Christmas?
Hope you are all well.

jellibabe · 02/05/2009 23:56

Hi is this thread still about or has it moved elsewhere?

LackaDAISYcal · 03/05/2009 00:06

hey jellibabe

It's all gone a bit quiet on here. I don't think it's moved anywhere else though.

You OK?

jellibabe · 13/06/2009 21:59

Why LackaDaisycal thank you for asking - if the truth were told i'm not doing as well as I would like although I feel a bit self conscious telling you this. Anyone else care to join in?

wigparty · 13/06/2009 22:35

Jellibabe, there's a new thread started by Walkin (Glowwormish)...it's titled Kokeshi Expat Gerbra etc....
Active in general health...
I'm back on it too (am wigparty...was gerbra...)

MIFLAW · 14/06/2009 22:32

Long term (ish) recovering alcohlic here - just showing my face here.

Will follow with interest ...

PrimroseHall · 15/06/2009 00:34

Good to see this back in Active Convos.

My first post on this thread (as BrassicMonkey) was back when I had been sober for 5 weeks and was in therapy. I've been sober for 14 months now...

[punches air].

Would be good to get this thread moving again. The other thread won't attract any newbies because of the title so I'd rather stay here.

Hi to everyone here, new and old.

walkinthewoods · 19/06/2009 20:53

Hey get yourself over to the other thread, or maybe we can come here.....or EVEN we can start a new thread

Its still active, we're just a bit disjointed, someone satrt a new thread please....am worried if I do it no-one will come to my party

walkinthewoods · 19/06/2009 20:59

pleeeease pretty pleeeease (well bump actually)

PrimroseHall · 20/06/2009 18:15

Hi witw, don't think we've met before. Did you used to be someone else on here?

I think a new thread would be best, but like you, I don't really want to start it. I have days where I need to talk and connect with other problem drinkers, and then at other times I want to leave it alone. If I started a thread I'd feel that I have to post when I don't feel like it IYSWIM.

If you can persuade someone else to start a new thread I'll join in. Or just come over here if that's the next best thing.

walkinthewoods · 21/06/2009 19:48

Primrose, I know exactly what you mean and I'm not up to talking much today at all. Out of the 3 threads, it seems that 'how do you know you are drinking too much?' is the most active, so when I feel more compus mentis i will post the link to this and the thread I started.....
