Problem/Dependent Drinkers and Alcoholics (recovering or active) Support V

Welcome to the thread, the purpose of this is to give anyone who is having any trouble with their drinking, a safe place to come and post about it honestly and without judgement.

There are many of us that use the thread for support and encouragement: some in recovery, others just needing a place to share about their worries. It's been going on in one form of another for a while now and has helped many people.

Thank you to all of those who have kept it going thus far, and welcome to anyone who has decided the time has come to ask for help.

Everybody's welcome, no matter what stage your drinking is at.

Jump right in, the water's fine

me too - I'm 5.6 but have stupidly short legs for my body - finding trousers to fit is a nightmare!

Daisy I found MN as a result of doing a word-for-word search of 'drink more than a bottle a night'! The results threw up an MN thread from a while back. From there, I, Clueso, found the site and hey presto. I did feel a little unsure about having posting when having no kids but then realised that there were a few kid-free people posting...

TBH the last year or so has been a total muddle of trying to decide whether we did want to go with it with kids or not, it's been quite exhausting in a way and it almost feels like a relief to have made a decision one way or the other!

Have had a pretty nice weekend on the whole, although have had to work half of it . This evening we planned our week holiday at the end of June - we will be walking from Lyme Regis to Dartmouth in 6 days . We do like the walking and we managed to get a dogsitter as he's too grey-whiskered to keep up with the pace...bless him!

Hope everyone's had a lovely weekend. The alcohol has flowed quite freely in this house...but tomorrow's another day...

HI everyone.

Sounds like a lot of walking Gerbra! Hope you have fun.
Cheers Daisy- will have a look... at Figleaves

No Jelli, I'm not joking, whats worse I take a size 10 shoe. Hence, I'm not a lover of clothes or shoe shopping.
Brassic Monkey said I sound like a Geordie Lily Savage from my description, funny, because I used to feel a bit like a man in drag- especially at my sisters wedding- had to wear a horrid floral thing and cream court shoes.

Anyway, enough of my freakish proportions.
how is everyone doing?

Hairy are you feeling any better?
iwillnot- how are you doing?

lackaDAISYcal · 27/05/2008 11:49

iwillNOT...i meant to add a "bloody well done" to you last night, but forgot ...

So...

BLOODY WELL DONE

gerbra, I hope things are OK today, and don't worry...no-one os going to hound you off the board. At least not from this thread anyway

iwillNOTletthisbeatme · 27/05/2008 13:23

no well done.i caved

Stripteasle · 27/05/2008 13:54

Iwillnot- I'm sure not many people have just gone ahead and got their drinking sorted straightaway.
Please keep posting, remember you're not alone, there are lots of people who contribute to this thread who understand. x

lackaDAISYcal · 27/05/2008 14:38

don't be despondent IwillNOT; I had several false starts before I finally got round to stopping, but as this co-incided with me finding out I was pregnant, I'm not sure if this is me really cut back or just the pregnancy. I suppose I'll be able to answer that after November, but I'm determined not to fall into my old habits, even if I do have the occasional drink.

lackaDAISYcal · 27/05/2008 14:40

and yes, please keep posting. I made the mistake of stopping posting here when I was drinking as I felt bad, but stupidly, that's when I needed more support.

Stripteasle · 27/05/2008 20:46

Who's going to venture onto the thread tonight then? Anyone? I'm around on and off for a while

dandycandyjellybean · 27/05/2008 22:36

sorry, selfish, selfish, selfish. Am feeling really depressed at mo; have been poorly for such an age and am getting really fed up with not being able to talk, and feeling really crap into the bargain. i haven't exercised properly since i felt so crap and so that is having an impact too; have to exercise else I feel like a total blob. am a total blob but feel worse if i'm not exercising.

And, had searched out a really good catalogue to order myself some new bras, am at desperation point, and every single one I chose was out of stock for the forseeable future! ggggrrrrrrr..... have got huge great norks wot noone seems to cater for, and was so excited when I thought I was going to get some joy. Have just tried figleaves, and made an order of about five hundred squids!!!!!!! over over order, just making sure in all the different sizes/shapes etc.

Anyway, sorry to not be doing any sharing or checking in with anyone else, really do feel crap and will be back to my normal self as soon as......love to you all and keep up any good work.

Stripteasle · 28/05/2008 09:36

Hairy- have you been to the doctors yet?

Also, have you tried Bravissimo?

Hello to everyone else.

gerbra · 28/05/2008 17:41

HairyB I can't believe you're still low with the lurgie, perhaps GP would be a good idea?

Have had lots of work on at the moment and feeling every so slightly stresssssssed (understatement), but I know I shouldn't complain as earning money is always good and I've got to earn enough to take time off at the end of June - can't wait!

Drinking was at high levels over the weekend, although it was really nice as part of it involved time with mum and a good old hart to hart.

Didn't drink last night and am not planning to tonight. DP has finally finished his white wine stock, there are only reds left and they don't tempt me quite like the white ones do! I keep having urges to go and buy some wine, but then keep thinking how bad I'll feel if I do - it's quite knackering having these eternal arguments in your head!!

Hope everyone's well ...

Gerbra x

gerbra · 28/05/2008 17:42

hart to hart???? (that's showing my age!)
heart to heart

paperchain · 29/05/2008 14:16

Hello from me - esp Daisy who asked after me. I vowed I woudlnt come back to mn after last week, but I seem to have slipped back in again - I crave the 'company'. (I havent read any of the threads from last week though, I am far too embarrased to do that).

I feel a fraud being on this thread as everyone is doing so well. I am not. I wish I didnt drink, but I do. I know I am n alcoholic, and that I cant 'cut down'. It is all or nothing with me. And atm I am not ready to stop. Which is why I dont know if I should be on this thread, where eveyrone else is at least trying to stop..

gerbra · 29/05/2008 14:26

Paperchain ...

Don't even think you shouldn't be on this thread, everyone's got different battles and it doesn't matter whether you're drinking or not, trying to stop or not.

So pleased you came back

How are things at the moment?

Gerbra x

paperchain · 29/05/2008 14:59

thanks Gebra - things not great atm tbh what about you?

gerbra · 29/05/2008 15:14

Oh PC, is there anything you want to chat about? Might not be so good at advice, but I'm a good listener/(reader). Sometimes it helps just to offload.
(totally understand if you'd rather not though)

paperchain · 29/05/2008 15:21

thanks Gebra - just the same old stuff, you know. Wish I didnt need to block everything out with drink or pills etc

lackaDAISYcal · 29/05/2008 15:24

hi paperchain

How are you? You had lots of MNers very worried last week, and I'm sorry I didn't see your posts until afterwards.

Of course you should be here on this thread. Read the title.....it definately says recovering or active Yes, there are a lot of successes at the minute, but for every one of those personal successes there have been several slip ups and false starts. Look back over the thread from its infancy and you'll see that.

We are here to support each other through the low points as well as congratulating each other on the high points. You would be missed if you disappeared on us completely. WE have a wee facebook group going as well now, although it hasn't kicked off with any chat as well as I'd hoped . It's secret and by invitation only and chat can be a bit freer on there than on here. If you want to join, e-mail me on daisybump at yahoo dot co dot uk

and as a final not, I for one am not convinced I'm better at all, it's just the pregnancy stopping me at the moment. My battle wil resume in earnest after this baby is born I'm sure.

hi gerbra

mankymummy · 29/05/2008 15:25

paperchain... ive read some of your posts and i think you are very brave.

i feel like a fraud for drinking at all (as well as coming on this thread) because i dont have a good enough reason to drink, my life is really ok at the moment.

however, im going to try (again ) not to drink again tonight. havent not drunk in over two years (prob nearer 3).

but im going to try tonight. i AM.

paperchain · 29/05/2008 15:29

Hi Daisy - I am sorry about last week I didnt mean to cause a stir. I dont do facebook - had to come off it, but I do msn?

manky - don't feel a fraud. There is never as good reason to drink. HUGS

gerbra · 29/05/2008 15:29

If things in life are hard/painful, that often feels like the most effective way to do it, it is understandable, and I've been there myself when things have been really tough.

Trouble is, for me drinking magnifies the lows so I guess that's what you've got to be aware of...wish I could help more

I've managed 2 nights dry this week and am still (sorry if TMI) sweating unbelievably. I wake myself up in the night shivering like I've got a fever, but not hot.

Could I be Menowhatsit (daren't say the word!) ?

Keep posting PC, we're all here for you

Gerbra xx

gerbra · 29/05/2008 15:31

Hi Daisy and MankyM!

paperchain · 29/05/2008 15:33

HUGS gebra! and lol at menowhastsit

lackaDAISYcal · 29/05/2008 15:35

PC, you didn't cause a stir; people were genuinely worried about you. Lots of people who knew you in your previous nicknames as well as the ones who've only known you as PC. You should feel all warm and fuzy about that, and not embarrased at all

I don't msn I'm afraid. I think if I had something else to keep me on the pooter I would never leave the sofa!

Today I've packed DS off to holiday playscheme, and DD is asleep. Am I potting up my courgettes and tomatoes? cleaning the kitchen? dusting and hoovering? nope, MNetting and watching countdown
