Is there a strange virus going around?

This is a really odd one!
started on Friday with a very sudden sore throat. Low grade fever overnight, woke to awful muscle pains, neck ache and a general feeling of low level unwell.
Saturday felt off with a running nose and aches and pains. Kept feeling warm and waves of nausea. Overnight into Sunday stomach pains started with diarrhoea and nausea, snotty nose, shivery, headache.
Symptoms are coming and going, feel a bit better one minute then headachey and off the next. Every time I eat I get stomach cramps and loose stool. Not positive for Covid (old tests tho).

It’s the stomach issues that are unusual, it’s like a low level flu bug but with a bad stomach too.

Anyone else have this?

I’m pleased for those who are turning a bit of a corner with this… but I do really want to join you soon. I feel I’ve taken all I can and more of this now. I’m broken.

goodbyego · 18/12/2024 16:56

@Thegrassroots26 just in time for Christmas I'm sure!!!

ArabellaScott · 18/12/2024 17:14

Oh, I'm sorry grassroots. Have you seen a doc?

Thegrassroots26 · 18/12/2024 17:28

Yeah I saw one who gave me antibiotics, not sure that helped, possibly made things worse. Then saw a paramedic person who just checked my vitals and that was it. Was given a steroid nasal spray a few weeks ago. But nothing else.

Cloxs · 18/12/2024 18:00

I’m the same. Days where I think I’m getting better (still falling asleep most afternoons) and then other days like the last 2 where I’ve had to take paracetamol and I want to cry with tiredness. I am definitely better overall - like I can go out (went to hairdresser today but nearly fell asleep in the chair) and took my 3yo old out for the day a couple days back but it’s a slow burner.

Thegrassroots26 · 18/12/2024 18:15

@cloxs sounds promising progress 🤞

Cloxs · 18/12/2024 18:45

I’d wager a bet it was the flu. Absolutely grim. My issue is more that I’m getting constantly ill from my toddler so I never know where one ends and the other starts. Ughhhhh. You’ll get there. I had long covid for 18 months so I know how it feels to be so trapped in your body. The worst thing you can do is panic yourself over the symptoms. Hard to do when you feel like you do. I’m 50% there (from this flu virus)

Thegrassroots26 · 18/12/2024 18:50

@Cloxs yeah unfortunately it lasts a long time regarding kids bringing germs home. Mine are older and it’s still going on! I think the stage of parenting a toddler is just so draining plus being ill though. Looking back, I think I thought that would break me at times. Amazing what we have to cope with as parents, it’s so tough.

Gfozzy · 19/12/2024 07:32

So I’m back! Every time I feel better this virus comes back to show me I’m not. New symptoms are tight chest radiating into back and shoulder, rapid heart rate and general tiredness. Oh and now cramping in my calves. I’m so over this and due to fly next week for a week in the sun and I’m dreading it 😭

Cloxs · 19/12/2024 07:33

i just woke up feeling like I’ve got an entirely new illness. This is fucking insane.

ooooohnoooooo · 19/12/2024 07:48

Morning all.

Just popping in to say that I throroughly recommend a vitamin D spray (not pills) It helps boost your immune system quickly and effectively - far more so than pills.

Was recommended to me by my GP after similar illnesses.

Oh and get well soon everyone !

Thegrassroots26 · 19/12/2024 07:50

Oh gosh, feel for you both.

I’ve woken up with my usual state. Numb, ringing ears, dehydrated, everything tastes horrible. Plonked myself on the sofa for another pointless day of doing absolutely sweet FA feeling like I’ve been dug up.
As you can tell, I’m so over this now I can’t even be bothered anymore. Still got Xmas stuff to do but feel like just forgetting that now and saying to hell with it I’m too ill to try.

Cloxs · 19/12/2024 07:58

Thanks @ooooohnoooooo - already take 7000IU spray daily and hasn’t helped me so far. L lysine seemed to help a bit. For 2 days. 😎🤣

Delatron · 19/12/2024 07:58

Yes vitamin D spray is good @ooooohnoooooo

Hopefully some sunshine will do you good @Gfozzy but travel can be exhausting - I hope you improve for next week.

It’s so awful the way this virus goes away for a very short time then comes back with new symptoms.

Last week I had awful mouth ulcers. At one point I had a strange rash under my arm and all my skin started peeling off.

I hope everyone turns a corner soon.

Cloxs · 19/12/2024 08:03

I’ve now been ill with something for 3 months on and off but maybe I just need to be blaming having a kid. I worked in the NHS - hospitals, schools - even a&e! I never got sick like this. Do you guys think it’s just one virus or one after another in the case of this one?

piscofrisco · 19/12/2024 08:21

Sorry to everyone still feeling poorly. After three months of this in and off I've felt ok ish for the last two weeks, though everyone else in the house is still poorly this week (and I don't trust my recovery will last).

It's bloody exhausting and making us all feel very low. So sympathies to those still in the thick of it.

So sorry @Cloxs you may have picked up a couple of back to back viruses. I think fighting off one wears down our immune systems. I’m scared to go out and socialise at the moment as I can’t face being ill again with such a brief respite.

Have you been to the doctors at all? They sometimes can’t do much but I had blood tests done (just showed white blood cells were fighting a virus) and they listened to my chest.

Cloxs · 19/12/2024 08:37

I’m so pleased I’m not the only one @piscofrisco - has everyone had similar illness for a few months in your house too?

@Delatron ive had a smorgasbord of tests. Bloods say similar that I’ve had or have a virus (but my body is very good at never raising my inflammation markers, which I think is it just getting lazy with it all) white blood cells, neutrophils and lymphocytes at high normal ranges so suggestive of an active immune response. Chest been looked at, ECG done, immunoglobulins show normal immune system - even paid for a more comprehensive look at my lymphocytes (natural killer cells, CD4 cell, etc - all fine) EBV reactivation negative, everything else fine (including “optimal” vitamin D levels). Having thyroid and ferritin rechecked along with another complete blood count done. I suspect there’s nothing “wrong” but a shattered body.

Delatron · 19/12/2024 08:58

Ah @Cloxs sometimes it’s more frustrating when they don’t find anything. Mine all came back pretty normal even with vitamin D in good range. I was like ‘well why can’t my body fight this off then?’.

I think, by process of elimination with me, they concluded post viral fatigue. Which is actually awful - your body is stuck in ‘fight’ mode thinking it’s still attacking a virus and that is exhausting.

Hopefully everyone can have a bit of a rest over Christmas.

Cloxs · 19/12/2024 09:11

Yeah very much understand the pvfs. And you’re right to deduce that it’s a nervous system reaction. I belong to a membership which got me out of long covid by using nervous system techniques. I do also think a lot of people are struggling with long lasting viruses. I’m so pleased I’m still in that community.

Gfozzy · 19/12/2024 11:07

Ooooh what are these nervous system techniques I’m intrigued

justmewithmylifetoday · 19/12/2024 11:25

I've been off work all week feeling utterly miserable. Started with a headache and severe fatigue, then constant nausea, lack of appetite, then watery diarrhea. What is this hell?

You’re absolutely right, it’s pure hell. Wouldn’t wish it on my very worst enemy.
The fatigue, nausea, lack of appetite - it’s absolutely grim. And for me at least, I’ve just got worse as the weeks have gone on. I just want it to end now. I feel desperate at this point. On Sunday it will be 6 weeks for me since this hell began.

Thegrassroots26 · 19/12/2024 13:45

@Delatron when you started turning a corner and improving, did it happen quite suddenly or more gradually?

I’ve barely moved for a couple of days, so can’t really rest much more. This afternoon I felt able to move from bed to sofa, but feel so out of touch with myself it’s hard to tell how I’m feeling at the moment… I think I might feel a bit more normal but still weak and a bit achy..

Delatron · 19/12/2024 13:51

@Thegrassroots26 It was very gradual. More so that I’d wake up and think I was better then go downhill every afternoon. Then wake up and feel ill again. This just went on. Until one day I felt ok for the whole day. Then went downhill again. Then felt pretty fine for 2 days. So very back and forth.

I wasn’t bed ridden though. I could pootle about and do stuff then the exhaustion would hit and I’d have to lay on the sofa. At my
worst I was in bed for a few days.
